and finished showing my Lionhead bunnies at my very first rabbit show...
One got first place (and Best Opposite Sex Variety) in her color and age group (junior does).
The other switched genders on me and got disqualified, but would have won that age/color group had the bunny actually been a buck like believed... LOL

How exiting! I love fairs. We just had our Hamilton Co. fair here last month.
So how does a bunny switch gender? And I've never heard of Best opposite sex var. You'll have to explain that one, too.
Congratulations on you wins, too.
Are these bunnies very high maintinence? I've never seen one, but sounds like they'd have lots of fur to keep brushed.

Congratulations Erin!!! How fun!!! I have the hardest time sexing bunnies!! I always have to ask for a "second opinion". I would love to see pics of your rabbits!!

Congratulations!
We go to the fair tomorrow. Can't wait!
Have never entered anyting because we live too far away.
I get a big kick out of seeing all the animals and the kids in their FFA groups who have worked really hard.
Sad how the average joe doesn't realize the true intent of fairs and is more wrapped up in those dangerous rides.
Now the food on the other hand....it's the best! |

Sorry it took so long to respond. I have sporadic and limited internet access now. (Long story - suffice to say, we are OFF the grid.)
Anyhow, Best Opposite Sex Variety means that your bunny was the highest winning bunny in the opposite gender of the one that won the Best of Breed in that Variety (Color). In my case, since the Jr. Tort buck won Best of Breed (Tort), then they would pick one of the winning females (either the first place tort jr. doe or the first place tort sr. doe) to win Best Opposite Sex (Tort).
As for switching genders, my gorgeous little buck turned out to be a gorgeous little doe. The breeder who sexed her did so when she was a baby, when it's much harder to tell their sex. I just never really knew what a buck bunny looked like and assumed what I saw was a male. Not so (now that I've seen the real thing.) LOL
Lionhead bunnies are very easy to care for and are really personable. I am LOVING them even more than the angoras.
