As some of you may have known, dear hubby and I adopted our first child 3 months ago. We named our bundle of joy Oliver. We took dear sweet Oliver to the Dr's for his 2 month check up. Dr asked how long had Olivers eyes been roaming and does he focus his eyes. I, as a new mom, thought that that was something that a babies eyes did until they were stonger. Anyway fast forward one month....
We had Oliver to a very good childrens hospital 3 provinces away and afte 6 hours of testing we were told that little Oliver has little or no vision. we are still trying to let this all soak in. we are sooooooo very thankful that there are no tumors or anything that will cause him any physical pain.
Hubby and i firmly believe that sweet little Oliver must have been put in our lives for a reason, in the meantime...we will kiss and hug him and figure things out one day at a time.

Mel, he was given to you because God knew you'd love him no matter what, and that you would be strong enough to deal with the challenges a special needs child will face. He is still the same person whether he can see or not! Our love and prayers to you.

It may sound funny, but I think I love him more now that I know he has special needs.
Thanks for your kind words Ann:)

I have been thinking about you often since this wonderful child came to join your family...I'm sure there is a reason you were given this baby, he is obviously very loved and in the right place. Many challenges ahead, but I'm sure you will all do well...

Little Oliver sure is one little boy. Spoken not as a mum, but as a person with one blind eye. Hug him, love him as I know you already do. God has given Oliver to you because He knows what you can do.

God bless you and hubby. And prayers too

God bless you as you continue your journey...maybe a different pathway....but the same journey with your precious new son. He is truly blessed to have been placed in a home where love is ever present...even with this unexpected news. Hugs to you, your hubby and your little fellow.

Melanie - you have been on this site for a long time, and please know that your sisters are here for you. Your little guy MAY see one day....who knows? But until then, all is well. He is loved, and cared for, and you are blessed. But then, I know you are aware of all those things. He is a lucky fellow, he will get the best with you as parents.

Little Oliver is in my thoughts and prayers too. I am 48 years old and have had very bad eyesight my entire life. Fortunately my eye problems were detected when I was a baby and I received excellent eye care. My visions is around 20/30 to 20/40 with glasses or contacts. I don't have depth perception or peripheral vision but I get around it. I really hope Oliver's eye problems can be dealt with too and perhaps he'll be able to see with treatment as he gets older.

Like so many others have said, Oliver is so lucky to have just the right parents...and I know what you mean about loving him even more knowing he needs you more. With my adopted children I have felt the same way. You are all in my prayers. Give him a cuddle from Aunt Jenny!!

Melanie- You are the perfect parents for little Oliver. Amd I know exactly how you feel about him. Our second child has disabilities. He is a strong, caring young man now. He believes that if he wants to achieve something, he will (and does). He makes friends wherever he goes, he has never met a stranger. His joy for life is contagious and I know that little Oliver will be the same way because he has you both for his mom and dad. Give him a little kiss from me!!

thank you all so much for your kind, loving words, and your thoughts and prayers.
We have been given a prescription for glasses for Oliver. The Dr's think that it might help focus things a wee bit and help strengthen the muscles in his eyes. It's not a for sure thing, but it could help.

Melanie- I am imagining a cute little baby in glasses. I have seen babies in them before and they seem perfectly happy. It is really great that they caught this so early. Thanks for the update! I have been hoping for one! :D

When the Dr's were trying to find a frame that fit him we tried several different pairs. I didn't know wether to laugh or cry when I saw them on him. He did look so cute. I will take picutres when I get the glasses and if I can figure out how to post them, I gladly will

I think your little guy will see fine someday. I just have a feeling.....until then he might look like Clark Kent, a superhero in disguise.

Melanie- If there is one thing that Nora has taught me... if there is the option to laugh or cry- choose to laugh. It relieves stress and helps gain perspective! *hugs* I agree! Oliver's nickname can be Clark Kent! :D

Melanie-I truly believe that God brought Oliver into your lives because He knew that Oliver would be loved unconditionally by you, and in return he will be such a blessing to you and your family.

No matter what challenges may lie ahead for all of you, just remember that God is in control, and He has a purpose for everything.

There is nothing that cannot be overcome where there is love :)

I couldn't say it any better than Diana just did. And I love the Clark Kent analogy! It will be fun watching it play out as Oliver grows up.

I thought I'd posted earlier because I've been following this thread since it started. Maybe I just couldnt' find the right words at the time. Just know that your family is on my prayer list and you're being held in God's loving hands.

God bless -
