My mother-in-law is arriving on Saturday so I have about 48 hours to get our house in tip top shape. She is a clean freak and always notices the one thing I forgot to clean (one time it was the inside of the microwave, another time the stove vent, and one time a stain on the table). But, I am having problems getting motivated to even start so I was thinking maybe I could have you all hold me accountable and I will post what I have done so that I won't just laze around until the last minute and then drive myself crazy. I have just been sooooo tired lately since my six month old is getting three teeth in and has been waking up several times a night and my three and five year old run be ragged during the day, as well as starting a new part-time merchandising job once a week. I'm tired!!! I wish you all could show up here like a group of farmgirl merry maids and help out!

*So far today I've just gotten breakfast, lunch ready, one load of wash going, and the kids taken to storytime at the library*

Elizabeth- I find posting here about once an hour gives me a little break and it is fun to see how much you can get done before the next check in! Keep up the great job! Sounds like you have had a busy day already!

Okay. It's time to clean up at our house too. The house was cleanish earlier this week but then Doug and I have both been a bit off (we think we ate something...) and so the house has been left to it's own devices. Here is my list to get done in the next 3 hours.

Get dishes done (3 hand-wash loads at least)
Clean bathroom
Clean Kitchen

If I get those three things done, I will up date the list with more goals later.

I haven't done well at all today. I finished two loads of laundry and folded them and now they need to be put away. I picked up the whole living room, organized the kids book shelf in there, and vacuumed. Now I am working on supper and then it will be bath time, putting the kids to bed, and trying to motivate myself to do something more. I guess I can post my whole list of what needs to be done by Saturday afternoon:
*Office room and dining room need to have all clutter picked up and putaway and vacuumed (living room will need to be redone by Saturday too)
*Kitchen needs a deep clean, from the stovetop, counters, sinks, microwave, and floor
*Bathroom needs the mirrors done, the sink washed, toilet scrubbed, bathtub scrubbed, and floor washed
*Laundry room needs vacuuming and a quick straighten up
*Toy room needs picked up
*Bedrooms need a good tidy up
Actually, now that the list is written out it will be nice to cross each one off. I'll update later tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement!!

Elizabeth, Take one room at a time.. Have the kiddies pick up all the toys each evening before they go to bed. Check off the list things as you do them. If the kids take naps thats when you can do the heavy Kitchen cleaning & mopping. I used to take the kids stuff and put what they don't really play with a lot, but always there, and put them in a box & put it away in the garage or attic or basement until after Christmas. They always had too many toys in their rooms. I had them sort out the things they played with each day & those were left. Give some of the old toys to GoodWill or thrift stores. Books were on one shelf.( even those were sorted & put away) when they got new toys They were replacing the old ones.& many never came back into the house. Every 6 months they were donated to Goodwill or a Women & children's shelter. Just don't look at the whole House cleaning as need to be done TODAY. Once its done.. Spot clean daily. Keep working girl.. you will get there. Just check off the things you get done.. You are gonna feel so much better. Put some music on while your work that helps me too.

Elizabeth- I am the same way. I have been working really hard to get my house cleaned up, but sometimes I have a hard time getting motivated too. My mother-in-law was here today- she doesn't say anything, but I would hate to know what she's thinking! I cleaned out all my cupboards with food in them because I had flour moths, so any flour or grain product was given to the goats! By they are all straightened and I have a plan for when I bring home groceries- everything has it's place. I know how much laundry I have with two little ones, so I know how the laundry thing goes for you! Sometimes I think the dirty clothes are breeding! My next project is finishing up the living room. I started awhile ago and started rearranging, but it's where I do all my crafts, so things have taken over and I need more storage. I need to get that done because my sewing machine and a quilt that is supposed to be a Christmas present are under there somewhere! I think I do better if I set time limits for myself. Like I have to finish cleaning something before I can do fun stuff. I have been following flylady a bit and doing the 27 fling boogie or whatever it's called helps. I do it with trash and with goodwill stuff. It helps!

HI Elizabeth! First, let me tell you that I have been there (where you are now) I had 3 babies too. Second, I am the M-I-L now. I had a very good teacher on how to be a good M-I-L. Mine redefined the B word. I vowed not to be like her. You are not there to please her, but to take care of and spend time with her son and your babies. When I go to my D-I-L's house and see the mess, I can do one of three things. Ignore it, go home or pitch in and help her. Now that I have said my piece, I'll tell you that I worked my butt off when I was expecting my M-I-L and never let on that I was anything but pleased to see her and have her visit.

My slogan is, This too shall pass. may take many years, but Pass, it will.

So far I have:
*Cleaned the entire kitchen, from scrubbing the stovetop and microwave and appliances to the floor and all the dishes and counters

*Cleaned everything in the bathroom except the mirrors which can be done tomorrow morning

*Vacuumed the laundry room and did several loads of laundry

After supper I will vacuum the office, dining room, and living room and clean the carpets. The baby has been very fussy today so I have had to stop alot and just sit and nurse or play with him and then the other kids want attention as well so it has been slow going today. They shouldn't arrive until later tomorrow afternoon (driving in from Ohio) so I will have several hours tomorrow to finish the play room and bedrooms and get a grocery shopping trip out of the way. Hubby has a long appointment at the dentist tomorrow morning so I won't be able to recruit him to watch the kids. Thanks for the encouragement!
