Connie, I used to do a lot of bead work with size 14 seed beads! I still have quite a few beads, but I haven't done much lately!

Connie I dabble here and there with beading. I did western hat bands for the boys in my family. I think it was called, loom beading without a loom. We just recently made some ornament covers. Do a little bit of Jewelery, and have knitted beaded change purses.

If I see something I like, I will learn to do it!

I envy all of you that do the tradition seed beading. I do the stringing and wirework stuff that is big and easy to see. I love rocks and gems and that is what got me into it. I am also a bead magazine addict.

I'm with Victoria, after a few spills (cat and/or me induced) and picking up and re-sorting the dang bitty things(seed beads), I traded them all away for the umpteenth time. It makes me appreciate all the more the intricate amulet bags I've received from other beaders & I bow down to you. Otherwise, I stick to basic stringing and wirewrapping.

Most of my beading is with spinning into yarns. I also do some with regards to my silk cocoons and rods. I taught for a while beaded bags and such but now I limit that time because as my hands are needed elsewhere. The alaskan tradition of beading has always been of interest to me - I have a couple of wonderful books on the subject. Also, love the shell work most of all - I made a long time ago a jacket using the sheel button techniques - still love the raven pattern the most and hope to someday make another. Great to work on beads in the dead of winter - hugs Connie - are you doing better??

monica dont you hear those beads calling your name? they are lonesome and need some attention!

grace , i have done some of the beading alaska style for hair doodads (cant think of what they are called right off hand, oldtimers ya know? lol) i do alot of earrings in seed beads and have started doing some with the delicas (oh lordy why cant i stick to cheap seed beads?)my favs were the horse rider at sunset sillouette (sp) you know the one that is done in every artistic medium? i gave them to a dear friend when i went to michigan and now have to get this danged sweater finished so i can take the timme to make me another pair! i did one necklace with tiny tiger eye beads (about a size 10 bead) with wire loops between each bead! never again!! the arm is helaing but have to be really careful with it. thanks for asking. ((hugs))

bonne, i use a huge baking pan (like the cookie baking sheets at sams club) with a piece of smooth leather on it to keep the beads from getting spilled as easily. my neighbor uses the same thing and covers it with a smooth cloth when not working so her cat doesnt rearrange her carefully planned beads. it works quite well. most of my beading is done on my lap in bed so i have to be very careful not to spill. one time i lost a size 14 bead in the bead and somehow it got under the flannel sheet. hubby was driven crazy by it all night and couldnt sleep until sometimme around 3 am when we went hunting for the "boulder" in the bed! i now call him "price pea" *grin*

victoria, i envy yoru being able to do the rocks and gems. i pick up rocks all summer. hubby says that soemday i will sink the boat with my collections! i need a really good book on rocks and gems as there are tons of semi precious and even a few precious gems in alaska! i have to use a magnifying light and reading glasses for soem of my finer work lol. most of it i do by fell cuz i cant see the holes in the beads even with those!

michelle, i so want to do some beaded ornament covers. i have tons of patterns but just havent gotten there yet lol.

Connie, There are so many things calling my name that it's not funny! Most often it's my 3 kids saying mommy, mommy, mommy...

Glad to hear your on the mend - be kind to yourself you have had enough health issues.... We should not have started talked about beads - made me go and run my fingers thru the thousands of stands waiting to be played with - I really need to focus... Oh maybe just a few projects?

I have just started learning how to make jewelry. I made my mom two necklace and earing sets and everyone loved them so I guess that I doing something right somewhere. I also just got a soldering kit, complete with extra glass and some lovely images. I haven't gotten to it yet, but I am looking forwards to learning how to do it.

grace the nice thing about beading is you can do it in small pieces (no pun intended lol) i like to do brick stitch earrings when i just need a little diversion but then a necklace can be fun too *wink*. isnt running your fingers thru strands of beads the greatest feeling/ one of our local bead stores has really quality stuff but its in tiny baggies. i rarely go there when i can get what need at the other quality bead store that has them hanging in hanks on the wall!

marcy, soldering sound like fun. i havent done any of that yet..... there is still timme to learn it *grin* so many new things to learn and old things to do! are you doing just stringing or bead weaving? brick stitch is a simple way to begin weaving. the patawatami stitch make a lovely flowing piece and my nemisis (tho i am still not giving up) is the peyote stitch. once i get it started i am ok but that start takes me forever!

Connie there is a shop in Taos NM called the Beaded Lizard that I just go nuts in - they have antique beads, lamp work beads and wonderful Native American materials that everytime I did the wool festival I had to make sure I did not come home with all my profits in beads. For many years I offered beads in my shop on the farm- but I stopped because there was not as much interest in them - but now they are making a come back but the beads I have left I really love.... Not sure if I wish to start that whole thing up anyway. Too bad you are not close you could come and run your fingers thru my strands - beads that is.

Just looking at the beads and going to a bead store is a lot cheaper than therapy! I love color and beads provide it without taking up a lot of room. Connie , you have some good rocks in Alaska. A friend of mine brought me some nice jade she found up there. I never met a rock I did'nt like.

you are so right victoria. beads are good therapy *grin* i need to figure out how to recognize stones like jade in their natural form. i know its everywhere. there is also a reddish stone, not sure what its called that is popular for hand made jewelry. i also want to set up to polish my own stones. just what hubby doesnt want to hear lol.
grace i made a necklace and earrings out of some vintage german glass beads to the tune of $1 each! i paired it withthe most lovely shell in the exact same shade. it turned out lovely but i havent worn it or decided what to do with it. i used wire to put it together. my first wire and bead project lol. i thought about selling it but would have to ask more than i am willing to pay so not willing to charge that much for it lol. i guess being an empathetic cheapskate doesnt make for good business lol. peace connie in alaska

Bonne got me addicted to jewelry. I have so many of her pieces :) Then my addiction grew to where I just had to learn myself to keep up with it.I have some rough rocky mtn stones she sent me . I wire wrapped them this summer and now I can figure what roughrr type black or grey beads to go with them. I looked at lava beads but they werent quite what i needed.

I love to bead.
I don't do it too often now,
but if you go to my blog You can see some of the things I made
The puple seed bead.
The middle rose was from a kit
I designed the rest myself and added the bead fringe.
It took me months to compelet it. pinkroses

I have some stuff on my gypsycowgirl blog..... Most of my work is at a salon where I used to work. It seems to sell well there, but I'm still not sure its good enough for an etsy.....

sheila you do beautiful work! i need to figure out how to uplad my htos and get my putuer to cooperate. i have tried and tried with no luck *sigh* i am such a puter dummy! i have made so many different styles of jewelry. it seems like i never settle on one thing or style like most of you do lol. i guess its just that there are so many artforms for beading, wirework, thread work etc that i am never satisfied. my hubby would like it if i settled on one thing, at least one thing in each medium lol. our cabin is just too small for all these different stashes lol. peace connie in alaska
