I am just wondering...what is everyone making as gifts for the holidays??? I have been knitting like crazy and have finished six scarves in the last few weeks. I knit them during class and everything so I have no time wasted! I am also knitting my sister a cable-knit belt. I am about a fourth of the way done with it. I am knitting a James Dean doll for my other sister (she has acquired a fascination with him recently). I am going to knit a beanie hat for my lovely boyfriend. I even knit a fuzzy scarf for my little cousin and I will make a little matching one for her american girl doll!

I am also going to make holiday ornaments for each family in my extended family. I am not knitting these though.

What is everyone else making?

Hey Chelsey - I have been trying to make at least half my gifts this year. I canned cinnamon peach butter in the summer and will give that along with homemade baked goods for aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents. Then I am knitting a bag to felt for my MIL, knitting slippers to felt for my FIL and my dad, I knitted a hat to felt for my mom, she might get a clothespin holder too....I have also made pajamas for my husband, son, and step-son. For my stepson's baby, my granddaughter I am making a doll with a stuffed cradle, and my stepson's girlfriend is getting a knitting bag that I am sewing. That one is a really cool design from wired up designs, they are in Washington, Issaquah I think. Did you get your knitting patterns out of Stitch and [bleep]? They sound familiar:D I haven't totally finished all these but am really close to being done so I can do some fun crafty stuff in December. Oh yeah, I also took a soap making class and made homemade soap for people like co-workers and neighbors.
Good luck with everything

This year we are unfortunately on a very tight budget, so I am making all our gifts this year. Everyone is getting little apple pies, plus I am crocheting hats for my nieces and nephew. I am having so much fun crocheting!

Hi Amy Grace! Your homemade gifts sound wonderful! The scarves I am making didn't come from a pattern, I am just winging it and making them how I want to make them, in different stitches and lengths and widths. Same as the scarf for my cousin's doll...I just thought it would be cute! The beanie hat is also just something I am whipping up. I just knit it in the round in stockinette stitch. The cable stitch belt for my sister is out of my imagination, but the actual cable stitch pattern I am using is from the Stitch and (bleep) book lol! The James Dean doll is actually from a book called Knit Icons or something similar. How is the soapmaking going? Is it fun? I think I may want to try that out.

This year, we have to scale back, too. I'm doing crocheted dishcloths for my 2 sisters, 2 sisters-in-law, Aunt, and MIL. In the past I've done baking mixes in jars, and of course, my scout families always got lots of jars of canned goods (didn't do any canning this year - no time). And, I always do plates of cookies for our mail carrier, the ladies at the PO, the library, the fire station, the PD, and the staff at Village Hall. Last year, I also did tubes of jars for the entire Village Board (hubby is our mayor), Village Clerk, and Village Administrator. A great way to wrap (3) 1/2 pint jars is to put them in one of those fancy wine tubes - I bought 2 shopping carts full of them at the after-Christmas sale at a local store 3 years ago. This year, the Village folks will have to settle for a smaller plate of cookies, and cookies only.

These all sound like wonderful gifts! I also plan on baking a loaf of bread for each of the families on my list!

Connie - that is the truth. My husband and I have more disposable income than we ever have and it is not making my life any simpler at all. Especially since we got a car with really good mileage, now it seems like I am doing nothing but driving since it is now affordable. Bleahh

Chelsey - the soapmaking is really fun. I took a class, and am taking another one this week, from a lady who has a soap business. It is really pretty simple and great results. This will stay in my repertoire for gift!!

I making most of the gifts I'll be giving this year too. I almost done. Yay!! I've made jar lights, throw blankets, snowmen, a quilt for my daughter and I'll be making candies closer to Christmas.
