I found this one online, Wilma. Does it look like what you want?
Makes 12-14 balls or squares.
12 cups popped popcorn 4 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup sugar 1 cup molasses Place popcorn in large bowl. Melt butter in heavy saucepan, add sugar and molasses, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and boil mixture gently, without stirring, for 3 to 5 minutes, until it reaches 290 degrees F or the hard-crack stage. (When you drop a bit of syrup into a cupful of cold water, it should turn hard and brittle.) Pour syrup in a thin stream over popcorn, stirring with a wooden spoon until well mixed. Move quickly but aim to cover as much popcorn as you can with the syrup. Let mixture sit for a minute or two until it is cool enough to handle. With lightly buttered hands press firmly into balls.

Okay, how about this? Molasses Popcorn Balls Molasses Popcorn Balls
4 qt Popped corn 1 c Sugar 2 tb Butter 2 c Molasses 1/2 ts Salt 1 ts Soda
Boil Molasses, sugar, butter, and salt, stirring occasionally untill mixture forms hard ball in cold water. Remove from fire, add soda and mix well. Pour over popped corn, stirring so that each kernel may be coated. Form into a ball with well buttered hands QUICKLY!

Miss wilma, I agree the recipe I had called for soda too. Very similar to the one Janice just posted. Good luck.

That last recipe sounds like the one my Grandma used. I really should try it.

Oh Miss Wilma, these sound so yummy I used to LOVE home made popcorn balls. I would make some, but my teeth would protest. My Mom used to make them when I was little. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
