oh p.s. just haf'ta tell you the story of 'Thread Bear' .. he "pffffff'ed" at me when i walked past an antiques booth (a couple years ago) .. to get my attention .. when i glanced over his way .. he cocked his cute little head .. puffed out his chubby cheeks and gave me a big smile! i stopped to chat awhile (and by now .. you farmgirls should realize that i would probably stop and talk to a board fence if i thought there was the slightest chance it might actually be listening!) This Charming Bear .. in a very LOUD voice .. introduced himself to me as "Thread Bear" .. and within moments when his conversation continued .. i realized he had a LISP .. (hence the pfffffft .. instead of psssssst! i heard as i walked by!)
well, he didn't seem to be doing much listening .. but he chattered his way into my heart! I knew the dealer in this antiques mall .. (i had a booth there too). She had been wanting to 'trade' something for my primitive (with olde green paint) tall butter churn in great condition! Sooooooooo .. i called her on my cell phone and told her we had a deal!
On the ride home .. believe it or not .. i couldn't get a word in edge-wise as Thread regaled me with stories of his life in the woods and of all his kith and kin and how he came to be 'stuffed'. (you DON'T want to know!)
When we arrived home, i carried him into the house and proceeded to take his hat off as it was a warm autumn evening. And what to my surprize! He had NO EARS!!!! I quickly learned that he does not hear well .. and that the name on his "Bear-th Certificate" is actually FRED BEAR .. but since he lisps .. it comes out THREAD BEAR!
We have been great chums since that day .. and if i SHOUT quite loudly .. he can indeed hear me .. WHEN he chooses to!
For the holiday season, THREAD sits in a child's antique sled on top of our country kitchen table .. surrounded by long-needle pine boughs .. and i have made several 'seasonal' hats for him to wear ... which he prefers .. when company is visiting!

Frannie- I would love to be included in the drawing if it's not too late. My computer has been down for awhile and I must say I have been enjoying getting caught up and reading your wonderful posts. You seem like such a warm and loving person and hope to meet you someday. Mary Jane's Farm next summer?!
My best winter memories are of the first time my boys got to experience snow. Here in the Northwest we only get a "real snow" every other year or every couple of years. It's so wonderful to see the joy and wonder in their eyes and see them running around all bundled up with their litle red cheeks. I love when we come inside and get them all dried off and bundled up and then we sit and have hot chocolate and "sweet treats" together. I remember when I was a little girl growing up in Illinois and we never wanted to come in out of the snow. By the time I came inside my hands and feet would be so cold that they hurt. I miss that kind of snow every year. We all wait for snow here with great anticipation. We could drive a couple of hours to the mountains for snow,but it's just not the same as experiencing it at home.

oh missy .. i did do the drawing already .. but i'll be having more fun 'gifting' games soon. i have a "major" 30 year collection of treasures .. and most of them are just packed and stored right now in our 'schoolhouse' .. these tiny little cabins just won't hold them. i do have several booths at our local antiques shoppe and i have a most wonderful list of about 300 girlfriends who are on my 'Treasure Seekers' list (on-line) that i send pictures and stories and prices of .. as some of these treasures go up for adoption. (however .. my outlook express FROZE up a few weeks ago with all my addresses ... i'm slowly but surely building the list back up as the girlfrenz e-mail me wonderin' why they haven't heard from me lately! AND .. there are still lots of treasures that i just love gifting in fun games .. so you be watchin!
And YES! it would be great fun if bunches of us gathered at MaryJane's Farm next summer! Perhaps we should all choose some dates and check with MaryJane about availability for staying in her fun tents!
I adored reading your sweet memories about your little guys and their real snow and the wonder and little red cheeks. (is there anything dearer than a smiling red-cheeked child that we love!)
And isn't it amazing how as little children ... we simply do not "feel" the cold until we have walked back into a warm kitchen ... and hopefully, there for all of us .. a loving momma (in our story it was a dear, precious aunt "Nannie") who has the hot chocolate and cookies ready for us .. and who pulled our gloves off and rubbed our little numb fingers back into wiggling-ability!
oh .. and where did 'la marguerite' come from? marguerite hollister was one of my very best childhood girlfriends!

Frannie- We will probably be going to Mary Jane's Farm fair on Fourth of July weekend next year. We are within driving distance of her farm. It's about 6-7 hours from here.
I had a store called LaMarguerite. I love Daisy's and started out as the Daisy patch, but then wanted something a little more "chic" sounding so decided on LaMarguerite for the Marguerite Daisy. My shop closed a couple of years ago, but have still been doing sales here and there and working from home. My husband and I moved to a home with 5 acres a year ago and are now raising chickens, goats and bunnies. So.....The name evolved into Lamarguerite farm.

Missy ... Fourth of July .. one of my most favorite holidays of the year! Honey Hunk and i were married on a Colorado mountain-side on our country's bi-centennial .. July 4, 1976! Ahhhhhh the stories! Will share some someday! (like how Hank came riding up naked on a 'stallion' at the reception and swooped me up and we went riding into the mountains!) A PROMISE he had made to his 'rugby' team-mates!
Would be fun to come to Idaho at that time of the year .. Hank could go white-water-rafting with some of his buddies that live in Moscow .. and I could ramble around the farm! Will start 'working my womanly wiles' on him!
Love your Lamarguerite story .. didn't know of the 'daisy' by that name! What did you sell at your shoppe? Do you do an 'internet' business or is your shoppe on your farm? I have lots of girls that do both. If you sell more 'primitive' things .. i have some great sites to send you to for selling your treasures!
Have a question .. do you sell the 'goat meat'? We have an annual celebration here in town and each year, a goat farm sells 'goat-burgers' .. i tried one and at first thought it was delicious .. then pictured the one little billy goat we used to own when we lived in Colorado (his name was TROLL) .. gosh he was adorable! Well, i couldn't swallow the second bite .. even though it tasted good! And do you sell your chickens or eggs? I would love to raise chickens again (i guess our little mountside farm in Colorado .. when the girls were little, is when we had most of our 'critters' .. arcauna chickens (who laid the most wonderfully soft shades of green and blue egg shells) .. two ducks (Rock and Roll) .. one billy goat (Troll) .. an assortment of gold fish, birds from time to time, CATS (and that is WHY the 'time-to-time'!) one pony, one quarterhorse and two olde english sheepdogs who were very much in love and provided us with huge families of puppies!
And bunnies .. now what are they for? Pets? We only had ONE .. and all he did was bite, poop and pee! NOT my favorite critter. But i have a girlfriend with a long eared 'lop' bunny .. who does NOT bite .. and she is beautiful!

Frannie - I love the story of Thread Bear!! I have my old teddy (he's 49 now!) and he is still in pretty good shape. I'm so glad I've kept him with me all these years.

A warm winter memory...I remember fondly memories of winters in New York with my sister and parents living in Manhattan. There was a hill in our neighborhood, Park Terrace. I remember a Christmas morning way back in 1968 awaking to find sleds under the Christmas tree. My Mom made a huge thermos of hot chocolate and off we went after all the gifts were opened. We went up and down the hill until we were tired. Then we sat with Mom at a park bench watching all the other kids on their sleds as we drank hot chocolate together.

Frannie- I love reading all these memories!
Our family had our first country Christmas today (my sweet husband is a firefighter and must work on the day!) and it was our first small town holiday together. We each opened our gift and then headed out to the Co-op to get bread and olive oil for dinner- on the way we ran into our good friend Clint driving to Moscow and took each other to breakfast! I just loved this relaxing day together- running into friends and going to the library to pick out our favorite holiday books to read with Isabella. This was a truly peaceful day with the family and it was so simple. Isabella asked if we could do it again- she had such fun with Mom and Dad at her side all day. She will get to on Sunday at my folks!
I am off to bake cookies for an all-girls sleep over gift-wrapping party tomorrow!
