I know to some that to hear a Christmas Carol the first of November is to soon. I like to start playing my collection around the first few weeks of November. I find that it helps to get ready for the rush of the season to come. I know to some it seems to drive them crazy at starting the Christmas rush so early but music is music. I start with some of the more traditional songs and then later after Thanksgiving I will play the more modern or children favorites. Yet the week of Christmas I really just enjoy the instrumental music of Christmas, I think it puts me more in the realm of peace on earth and not just in the commercial realm of things.

My son was born on December 11th and my most favorite song is one by Barbra Streisand - The Best Gift.

What's yours????

Oh I love that song too! My son's BD is Dec.22. I have always loved "I'll Be Home For Christmas". I can remember my father singing along to it whenever it came on the radio when I was little. He has passed away many years now, but that song always brings back a clear vision of him in my heart. My father wasn't much for singing out loud, but I can remember him singing every word of that song!

When I was working as a preschool teacher at one of the local Montessori schools, the elementary school performed a song called Light the Candles All Around The World by Teresa Jennings. This quickly became my favorite holiday song of all time. For those of you who have never heard it, there is an mp3 clip of it here: http://www.musick8.com/store/alphadetail.php?product_group=379 It's not the entire song, but it gives you an idea of the song.

"Baby, It's Cold Outside" by Dean Martin... or Burl Ives "Holly, Jolly Christmas" oh, there's just so many great holiday songs!

Silent Night - it was the first Christmas carol I learned as a child, and my grandma and I used to sing it all the time when I was really little. That, and Jingle Bells.

Oh I could hardly pick a favorite! I sing Christmas Carols all year around. I sing "Silent Night" to Nora as a lullaby and as a nondenominational song, I love "Dona Nobis Pachem" which is a beautiful melody with those three words repeated over and over. It means "Let there be Peace" or "Give us Peace" and I learned it as part of a medley.

I also love "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Winter Wonderland"

I love them all but the one that would be my favorite is 'I'll Be Home for Christmas'. It was my grandmother's favorite song as well. She had a sister from Louisville that came every year to stay with her for a week during the holidays. She would meet her every year at the bus station to pick her up. That was a special tradition for her. The first Christmas after her sister passed on my grandmother said that song took on a whole new meaning for her. I now know what she meant by that. The first Christmas after my grandmother died every time I would hear this song played I would get tears in my eyes and somehow I could almost feel her near me. I think my favorite version of this song is by Elvis, his voice holds a lot of emotion and is perfect for the song.

I like Coventry carol, What child is this? Carol of the bells and Pat-a-pan the best for singing to...I know they are all kind of obscure =) but in general I love most Christmas music.

I want to say....Thank you all. The true meaning in Christmas is the memories we each share. I really do enjoy all those songs each one of you noted. Well maybe the porky pig thing I haven't heard of but they all make this time of year less depressive. Think about it the days are shorter and more cloudy etc. I think that music is something we all should use all the time.

I forgot to say anything Andy Williams sings. Love that man. I grew up listening to him and my dad sang just like him. Great memories of him. I love all his Christmas specials, too.
