I have been reading everyones posts and I have to give it to all of you. a big WHO HOO for all of you trying this. I am a stash a holic too and have been trying to use up and stuff for the past 2 years. It is a slow process and I am not done yet. We moved 2 years ago into a smaller house so I had to downsize before I left and I took a lot of stuff to the quilt guild I belong too. But when I got up here I realized all my stuff still wasn't going to fit so I took a lot of stuff to the new quilt guild I joined. I give all of you credit for starting this and not having to move to do it. Good luck and I am going to try and continue to do it too.

Welcome, Beverley! Wow, 2 years is a really long time to go... I'm inspired and impressed!

It always amazes me to see what inspires other girls to go along on this path... Maybe it's moving, or a credit card bill, or seeing another farmgirl doing it too... I think part of it too is the economy with the way it is right now - we all need to mind our p's and q's (pennies and quarters).

Keep it up girls!

I just came back from the fabric store.....I only spent $15 on velcro and trim to finish a few projects......Yippe!!!! It was soooo very hard, considering all the winter sales. The worst is knowing that I have two pregnant friends, and wanting to make baby items and not having any flannel to make fringe quilts......*sniff*

My sis purchased fabric to have me make her a purse........I hope this does not count against me, since it is not going into my stash....LOL

Terri - WAY TO GO! If your sis purchased fabric for a project for you to make, that's ok. Even if you purchased it to make her gift (or your friends' gifts), you were buying with a purpose, not stash building. Have you tried freecycle for the flannel, or maybe the thrift store? I'm heading that way myself this week - yes, purchasing with a purpose. I got three flannel shirts on freecycle as well as some flannel I got in two barters here that I used to make some patchwork baby blankets, and this week, I'm headed to the thrift to look for some quilted bedspreads to make covers for our bunnies' carriers. I'd rather repurpose and give to a charity, but if I can't find what I need, JoAnn's is having a huge sale next weekend.

Hey girls! Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!

I've updated the guidelines again to include some new challenges we may all face or have faced recently. I feel like my kids when they make up a game, changing the rules as they go along, but we have to be able to adapt to different situations and still stick to our stashaholics principles. After all, when the kids change the rules, they are always trying to make the game more fair to each and every player.

I was talking to a friend the other night about how much I loved amethyst and really wanted to buy some amethyst nugget beads ...Well. .."BUY" is a word that I really try to avoid. I am still not working the hours I need to be to pay bills on time..SOOOOoooo... cant do no "buying " right now . I got digging around in my rocks and I had 1 tumbled stone. Not quite a big enough size to wire wrap easily . So i used "goop" and glued to a piece of faux leather and then added some odds n ends of beads and findings i had laying around..........I think it came out pretty neat. The necklace is a style that sits around your collar -- neck area ..not quite as tight as a choker ..then the middle piece hangs down .

I used some fleece scraps up and made fingerless gloves and then some canvas i had i sewed up into grocery bags...I keep making bags and then giving them to friends who dont sew . I find i am down to one bag other than these..I like to keep a stack of the fingerless glove son hand too. everyone loves them and no one sews or crochets much anymore around town .

I am this weekend - signed up for a bunch of swaps and will use stash as much as possible.

Lisa, that amethyst necklace is amazing! I am going to show it to Evan when he comes home tonight from his Pokemon tournament.

The holidays were soooo busy for me! I STILL haven't posted any pics on my blog of the gifts I had made. Everybody loved the Santas. This year I might make them all a snowman. they want Easter bunnies too now. Lisa I LOVE that amethyst necklace! That is my birthstone.
I'm still using stash. I took an old comforter that was too large for our bed and cut it and am putting a binding I made long the bottom to finish it. I can't believe how much stuff I still have!!

hey lisa ! i am still using up "stash "too. I still barter though for supplies i need and to finish stuff up.I gave a bag of scraps away to a girlfriends that is just learning to sew. Gotta help someone else build them a stash too :) I did an awesome trade with janie for some necklaces i had.... So i helped her use up some of her stash too . I got alot of new things made up for trades this week. I kept 3 new necklaces i did ...just couldnt let go of them. You can always see each days designs on my craft blog . I have been trying to spend couple hours a day on using stuff up. It keep me from thinking of how much i HATE winter and the cold to stay busy with projects

I LOVE the pin cushion necklaces! They're gorgeous! I used up a lot of my Christmas fabric. Will use the rest up this year - everybody wants aprons. I made my sister one for Christmas and got the sad look from the rest of them. I knew my sister loved aprons but wasn't sure about the rest - I know now! LOL So will make some this year for this Christmas. I might have to actually go buy more Christmas fabric!
