Hi all...I am a little "late" joining in on this...but my name is Amy and I am a Stashaholic too....I have combated with this ever since I was a teen in the late 80's early 90's.....I have soooo many craft interests and it really shows. I love paper crafts and cross stitch esp so. I am really into journaling right now. I have TONS of rubber stamps that I am trying to let go of (really hard to do esp with all of the $$$$ invested in them after being a stamp consultant)and I don't use a lot of them anyway....I find that I do more small sketches than rubber stamping. I have so much craft clutter, that I don't have any motivation to work on any projects because of the visual overwhelm.

I would be interested in bartering too :)

Thanks for starting this.....I really hope to be craft clutter free in 2009.

Way to go Amy! This really helps....I am close to being 60 days and have no desire to stash anything at the moment! I am having so much fun bartering and spending my (ex)crafting stash money on postage and seeing what I get in return is wonderful! We have a lot of creative and crafty people....with hearts as big as Texas (or bigger)
Hang in there and email m e if you need motivation!

Welcome, Amy! After your initial shock and despair, you'll actually get excited about using it up, making it do, and doing without. You'll see...

I almost think the stages of admitting you're a stashaholic is like the stages of grief. First there's denial, then anger and despair, then acceptance. For me, that usually happened once a month when the credit card bill came - I would deny that I was spending too much, hubs would get angry, I would despair, and then finally one day I came to accept that I couldn't keep doing this to myself and my family any more. I've shipped out some really big boxes from my stash, and every one of them that went, I felt so much better. Postage is not cheap, but it's cheaper than therapy!

As you go through your stash, you'll find the UFOs that still need to be finished, materials that are really important to you for new projects, and those that you know you'll never use.

We post challenges here that help you use up what you've got left, and the swaps are another great way to use up what you've got and still scratch that creative itch.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Nice jewels, Lisa! I don't have much of a life lately either, especially since I'm now a daycare grandma, but have been trying to get some sewing done and have been baking a lot; just took a double batch of custard out of the oven and popped in some banana oatmeal muffins. We went to the thrift shop today and I was sorely tempted by two yards of nice heavy unbleached muslin for 44 cents but was going to pass on it ...... DH bought it for me..... Such a nice man!

the muslin was a great deal ...nice dh ! I keep trying to make room as i destash...i never knew i had so much stuff put away...My goal is to get all i can done before i have to start carrying dirt come spring for the garden beds. The custard and oatmeal muffins sound so yummy... Ann talking about yarn inspired me to do a fiber and bead necklace last night ...

It is all ANNS fault :P ..This is from a post on my blog today .....ok :0..........I had NO interest today in organizing all the boxes of pics..maybe tomorrow evening .. I wanted to work on necklaces instead.just like yesterday and day before.and so on and so forth ....about this time my friends are going ..well that is about right ...SOOOOOOO..... I chose a really pretty button that i had and used glass crystal and white stone beads and some others ..all that i got in a barter from Janie ..and this is what i came up with ...and yes..IS MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL MINE>>Well everyone cept the agate slice one. It is on the barter page. .. By now my friends are muttering amongst themselves " "must send her to beaders annoymonous " " Yes !! Dear friensd ..I am addicted to jewelry making.... I may wear the same 3 pairs of t shirts and jeans ..but they look so great with all my stuff i make. :P BUT ..Is all the fault of joing the "stashaholic thread over on MJ. I was happily just acquiring and stashing away all the stuff over the last 8 years ... NOW ..I am suppose to "destash" ..( insert evil laugh here ) ..which means i get to make jewlery till i run out of "stuff" to craft it from. I have 100's of really cool buttons yet i havent touched . The possibilities are endless... When you add me drinking the new "mountain dew voltage" drink..well.no telling what i may do next .

Ok, so my project is not as cool as Lisa's but...
Made a reversible tea cozy for a barter today. I had fabric that was 505'd to some batting from a quilt (505 is adhesive spray). It was so pretty, and I knew I had to save it for a special project. So, today, I cut 16" squares from the 505'd and batted fabric, as well as 16" squares from coordinating leftover fabric. I backed the batted fabric with some muslin leftover from our 1830's costumes and quilted it, then stitched the two squares together on 3 sides. I sewed the "lining" squares together on 3 sides. After 20 minutes of creative geometry (and words I do not want my children to repeat), I figured out how to put the lining inside the quilted part to make it reversible (sorry, didn't drink any of Lisa's mountain dew so my brain wasn't functioning as well - LOL). Then after putting part B into part A, I basted them together at the base. Then, I put leftover binding from the same quilt all around the bottom to make it look "finished". Kiddos who are too smart for their own good seem to have made off with my camera (probably to try more telescope photos), otherwise I'd post a photo. It's really not that fancy, but the fabric is really pretty, and when I tried it out over our little tea kettle, it looks almost like a pillow.

HI janie...love to barter for any you want to clean out when you get ready. If you see anything you like i can always just save it for you also. The button necklace was so fun to make using all the beads you sent me. Using the button opened my eyes to the possibilities of buttons .I think i will run to wal mart this weekend and get some embroidery threads in all colors. I am gonna crochet them and use for cords on some of the wire wrap agates.I thought i had some and then i remembered i gave them to a neighbors daughter for a girl scout project this summer.
