My sister called last night, breathless I might add, to tell me that she had encountered a rattle snake on her front porch! It was curled up and ready to spring into to action and Dayna hightailed it out of there, ran to the garage slammed down the garage door, ran into the house and locked the front door, lest her dogs decide to go out and investigate. Her hubs came home, and having had fair warning, came in through the garage and took a peek at a still spitting-mad rattler through the window. Brave man that my brother-in-law is, he had the kids distract the snake through the living room window and while it was occupied with trying to figure out how to get them, he chopped its head off with a hoe. The snake turned out to be about 4 1/2 to 5 feet long. Yikes. That was a bad day for the snake.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww. I HATE snakes. I would have passed out if I saw that on my porch.
Glad they were able to kill it before it "got" anyone.

Sherri- My sister lives in Florida, home of the gigundo rattlers. Two of her dogs were bitten by one a few years ago. (They survived.) The vet figures from the fang span that the snake was about 6-8 feet long. Seriously!! A few months after they were bitten, I went to visit and their heads were still swollen. Bad, bad stuff. I'll be on the lookout whenever I go down there from now on.

Double Yikes! Glad things turned out well for all but the snake! We have them here but I've never seen one. Seen some bull snakes I thought at first were rattlers but thank goodness they weren't.
