She is due in only 2 more weeks now!!! She is VERY wide but thats about it...there is a new picture of her (from behind) on my blog today...I better start getting ready for all that milk and the new baby!! I hope it warms up a little though..it has been REALLY cold!

Oh, please take pics of the new baby. Please let her know that all of her "aunties" are wishing her a safe and healthy labor and delivery. :) Okay, I am confessing to being the adopted aunt to a cow. LOL!!! I hope she delivers a heifer, and if not...what will you do with a bull calf? I wish I was in the position to have a milk cow. You are blessed Jenny.

Either way I can't keep the calf..not enough room here. Sad but true. I do have a friend who has dibs on buying the calf this year whichever sex it is. We both hope for a heifer calf..since then she would be raised to be a family cow, but if it is a bull calf he would be raised for meat by them. I feel so lucky to have Mona..she is my dream cow. Some day maybe I can keep one of her daughters and let her "retire" but for now I really want to keep my little sheep so I can't keep another cow. It is fun when they are close enough to visit though. Last year Mona's calf went to our own farmgirl Libbie..who lives about an hour south of me. I have got to see her now and then as she grows up. So all you aunties keep your fingers crossed for a girl this year again. Either way I will be sure to keep you all updated.

How exiting! And nerve wracking at the same time, I bet. I get that way with my goats when it's their time. I go out and check every few minutes. Like a nervous grandma.
Good luck and I will pray for a safe healthy delivery.

Both other years I have been lucky enough to be right there when she calved...about 3pm on sunny days....perfect. I hope THAT happens again..or heck even just finding it over with and a healthy calf would be fine by me now at this point. My youngest daughter is just sure it will be twin heifer calves. I don't know where she got that idea in her head. A nice idea..but sure not likely. One would be just fine!!

She is almost 5 now. So still young.Hard to believe I have had her almost exactly 3 years now! I am not sure how long I will keep breeding her once a year. I want to try to keep her in milk for 2 years at some point..just ties us down and the money from the calf helps pay for hay (or local beef) so I don't know. So far she has had easy calvings, and is such a perfect cow that it seems easy for her (and me!) I hear of people breeding their cows until they are quite old..but I love her and don't want it to be hard on her. I figure my youngest child is nearly 12, and the oldest at home is 14, so I will still have a big family at home (4 still at home of my 7 ) so the milk will be nice for a few more years. We will see.
She is so funny..today she was just romping around acting like she dosn't weigh like a zillion pounds...even if I couldn't get milk from her I can't imagine life without her!!

Here we go again - Mona watch!!! It seems like she's been pregnant so long this time. I had actually forgotten. I can't wait to see the new baby.

Jenny, be sure to give Mona a big hug from me! She is wide, but who am I to talk?! I think the twin heifer idea is great and I'll be hoping for that. I also hope she keeps her former delivery schedule of sunny afternoons!

I am so glad you like them Sharon. I LOVED that yarn...need to try to find some next time I go "to town". I am finishing up knitting a pair for husband right now..but not with as yummy a yarn as yours!!
