I guess you could say I'm "new" but I'm really not at all THAT new. I have always had a farmgirl hidden deep inside me - even while growing up on the "Mistake on the Lake". Somehow, I ended up in Idaho in 1998 leasing land just shy of 2 acres and raising Jacob sheep and a few culled ewes (they make great babies), goats (Pygmy and Alpine Swiss), some piggies, chickens, and loving a donkey named Sally. Now we live up in "the Orchards" which isn't all that great but we still aren't in the "big" city. I have some unusual views on simplicity, "organic" stuff, animals, and life. I still can't figure out why no one likes my "proof of need" concept for owning a truck. And, I'm one of those people that believes you don't use food to decorate. Food is food. You eat it. AAAHHH . . .the country has changed me so.

From Cleveland to Idaho - what a ride!

Hello there! Welcome to the forum! What's the "proof of need" thing ( I kinda sorta think I may have the same view, but ya know)

Hey Diane. Welcome and thanks for sharing a bit about yourself. I raise sheep too so we have that in common. Also the proof of need thing I think I understood...if you don't need it, don't buy/have it? Loved the Mistake on the Lake comment. Too funny how clarity comes along and bites us in the behind on some of the choices we've made but...gotta try things before you know!

I too drive a pickup (my ex who is a trucker tells me pickups are NOT "trucks" )...still love it and hope it lasts another 147,500 miles.

Look forward to getting to know you better. Like your name. Me too on the crazy and the yarn but I'm not yet 102...getting there though.

Diane, welcome from Georgia! Got a truck, too. Can't afford to drive it, though!! It might get 3 miles to the gallon. It's one of those that whenever you get near a station, you better pull in. We use it to haul hay and grain and critters.

I own a truck and I live in the city. I wanted a truck for hauling stuff and the fact that it sits up high enough so that I am not looking at lug nuts while at stoplights. It is a small truck, but has 4WD and I still love it, not necessarily the gas mileage. I'm going to try to wait this gas thing out before I get a car, so maybe I can have both. HEE HEE.

Hi Diane and welcome from Wisconsin! Nice to meet you and I hope you love this site. I've only been here a bit over a month and just love it. MANY times I've wished I had a pick up, although my Blazer and Minivan do pretty well in a pinch. I've shoved a sofa in the back of the minivan...laffin'. Welcome aboard!

Cheryl, I've hauled lambs in the back of my previous vehicle mini-SUV! What a clean-up that was! You make-do as a farmgirl no matter what you drive.

Welcome Diane from another newbie. I also raise sheep and I don't think you should decorate with food either. As to the truck - I never could understand having one in the middle of Seattle or LA unless you are a landscaper or construction person - a lot of wasted gas for making a statement. I have one used to haul hay or wood but drive my mini-van for everything else.

Of all the cities I've lived in, Cleveland is my favorite! My "mistake" was leaving there! But, like you, I'm SO happy to be out in the country now.

Another sheep lady says hello and welcome. Love that proof of need idea on the truck. I keep a small pick up for hauling only what won't fit in the Hyndai Santa Fe. Cheers!

A big warm welcome to you Diane! I was in Lewiston making my way to McCall this summer! I was in a caravan with Grace-katmom and others to McCall for a Sisters on the Fly gathering! Lewiston is such a beautiful town!
