Why is it when I have goat milk coming out my ears, no one wants it? I'm trying to come up with ways to use it all before it spoils and trying to find milk customers fast, but they aren't there. So now, the calves are weaned, I've gone to OAD milking, I get 1 1/2 gallon a day, give some to the pigs, have 3 steady customers, give some to my daughter, drink it all day, use it to cook with, then people callwanting milk now. Go figure.
Does anyone else have milk problems? |

What I did that worked very well when I had goats is measure out into ziplock bags-- gallon sized for big batches-- the right amount of milk for goats milk soap and then freeze it. It helps to have frozen milk anyways when you make soap so I could stockpile my milk and use it as I needed it for the soap. We ahd big freezers so storage wasn't a problem either.
If you don't make soap this obviously won't help. :)

Actually Sue, Goats milk freezes and unfreezes beautifully. My friends who have dairy goats freeze all their extra so they have fresh wholesome milk all through the dry periods.

That is just how it goes sometimes. Either you got a fridge full, or its empty. I make lots of cheese with my cow milk. Chickens like it too!

I did the freezer bags of milk last year to have when the goats were dry,but it is not good. I did not like it. One of my customers tried it, too, and didn't like it either. It was a good thing,though, because a friends goat had 4 kids and died, so she used almost all the milk. That worked out good. She owns a feed store too. So we swapped for grain!
I don't make soap, but know a few people who do. So will freeze for them and swap for soap. |

Oh Kristin!! IF we live closer, I would be by everyday. I L O V E goats milk and 1 little half gallon here is $4!!!
