My husband and I have spent a lot of time discussing where we wanted to go on vacation next year as a present to ourselves for finishing grad school. We've tossed around an Alaskan cruise, a week in NYC, a week at Yosemite, etc. These are all things I want to do but I really want, more than anything, to visit Austria and Switzerland. I don't even have a passport but I dream of visiting those quaint, historic villages tucked into the Alps. I want to gaze out over those crisp mountain lakes.....*sigh*...... I'm willing to forego a vacation next year in order to save up for the one vacation I TRULY want to take.
My question is: where is your dream vacation spot?

Oh wow... Dh & I traveled to Costa Rica last February. It was fabulous.. I have been to Hawaii ( it was years aqo and very expensive now.. ) I was married in a previous life to a British man for 12 years . We lived there for a short time after we were married.. and traveled to the United Kingdom many times after .. Wales was cool and Scotland was awesome..I have also traveled to the Bahamas, a great adventure as a single woman then... I think my dream place today would be Italy. There are some great places here in USA & Canada to see as well... We will be going to New Orleans this next spring.. Dh has already b een checking airfare.. I must say Costa Rica was fabulous and we loved every day.

My dream vacation would be to see Europe. I'd love to visit all the old cities, Paris, Rome, Vatican City. Would love to see Ireland and Scotland and of course the French countryside.
I'd also like to explore Canada from coast to coast. I've been pretty well all over the western part of this country but haven't really seen the east.

Anywhere warm with a beach and not many tourists: requirements: hammock for 2, full body massage, turquoise waters and seafood and dressing up would mean putting on a beach coverup for dinner...shoes optional. : ) Yep, I am a beach girl...I think it would be fun to explore all the little Caribbean islands, with their history and architecture.

I've got two dream vacations that I'd like to do.
New England in the Fall---- I'd like to stay somewhere in the center, probably southern Vermont, then take day trips and overnighters to the rest of the New England states. It would probably be like a two week trip. I kind of wish that hubby and I could do this next year for our 10th anniversary that would be so cool!
A Tour of England, Scotland, Ireland, and maybe on to the continent too. Like Alee, I think to do it proper it might take a few months. Now that would be a dream to have two months off!

Tuscani is where I would like to spend time and then on to Nice France. Also somewhere exotic like Figi or Thailand. Maybe someday.

This may sound weird, but I'm finding that I don't enjoy vacations much anymore. A week or two isn't time enough to get to know a place (especially with all the time taken up by travel to and from). And I like to have a purpose in life besides eating and sleeping.
I think the ideal for me would be a working vacation. I'd love to spend 3-6 months living in another state or country and working on some sort of project. Exploring on weekends, and maybe for a week or two before coming home.
I imagine that academic types get to do this regularly, visiting libraries and museums to do research. The older I get, the more I wish I had stayed in school. |

A month (more would be heavenly) in a small coastal Maine community. I'd love to rent a house (or housesit) where I can see the ocean and walk everywhere I need/want to go in town.

I am one of the least traveled women around, so for me almost anything. But, what has been my true dream is to go back east and see the historical sites of our country . . . Williamsburg, Washington D.C., etc. I love studying about colonial times and would love a chance to see what is left of that era. I also would love to visit the Amish communities of Pennsylvania. While I know a cruise and tropical beaches are nice, they have never been a dream like seeing the history of our nation.
Hugs & blessings,
Brenda

I would love to see New England and also the deep South. That being said....I would hate to miss our annual trip to see the family all in Calif too...so I would always choose family over adventure..at least for now. But we are dreaming, right? So..I figure that I will have the perfect cow sitter and can be gone for 2 weeks instead of one week (I could never handle being gone any longer..would miss home too much) so I guess if I could fly I could go to New England and THEN Calif, right?? Or hey..a real dream would be to have my grown boys and their families come along on the New England trip.

Years ago, BA,(before animals) I went with my husband in the big truck. We went up to Mich. to the U.P. and went right by the bridge to Canada. Wish we could have gone over. But we went up through the most beautiful clean country I've seen in a while. I think it was Port Sanilac? You Mich. girls can help me out here. On Lake Huron. There were little cabins on the lake shore all along the way. I just daydreamed about going back up there for a week and renting a cabin and sitting on the beach all day. I think I might just start saving some money for a little trip up there soon.

My dream vacation would be a 6 month to 1 year touring the good ole USA. We have traveled a lot but never got to spend as much time as we wanted in any one place. We took our motorhome to Maine and parked for 3 days and took day trips in the car. Not enough time. did the same thing in So Carolina, Southern CA places like that. Spent 5 days one time in Amerillo TX. Saw everything we wanted to see. Would like to do that everywhere. OK, make that 2 years. The one place I really really want to go is to the Rose Bowl Parade. |

I loved England, Sweden and Denmark and would go back to any of those countries in a flash. I would like to go to Norway for my next European trip, which won't be for a few years I'm afraid. In this country, I love the east coast and pacific northwest. Again, they are too expensive to go to right now. Oh well, I still have my dreams!

My Mom and I always day dream about sneaking off to Ireland, Scotland and Wales together. No kids or my Dad to tag along and whine.
I'd probably even be able to get her to have a pint in a pub and kiss the blarney stone.
