Last nite I went to let the dog out in the back yard to do his business before turning in for bed. Now y'all have to understand that I live in a large suburban city area, where the only 'wildlife' are rabbits and yard rats(aka:squirrels).

Anyway, all of a sudden there was a big thud and horrifying screech as something fell from the tree to the ground about a foot from me! I about had a heart attack because I had no clue what it was. Well, it turned out to be a huge owl who must have spied a mouse for its dinner, because as soon as it hit the ground it took a couple steps, grabbed its dinner then took off again. All I know is in the future I'll be staying on the deck when I let the dog out late at nite! LOL

I can certainly understand why it scared you. But that owl kept that mouse from trying to get into your house. That's probably what it was looking to do this time of year! How lucky for you to actually see an owl catch it's prey.

That's good to know there are owls around doing their job so well. One less mouse in the house! That's better than my 6 lazy cats are doing.

That would have been incredible to see! And I probably would have had a wee bit of a heart attack as well!

Wow...I've never even seen an owl in a tree, much less one so close. Lucky you!

Wow! That is awesome! Do you know what type of owl it was? I have seen them in the tree but never catching prey. The only thing I have ever seen catch prey has been hawks and eagles.

Well on the bright side, it's good to know the owls aren't extinct in your area!

I would have passed out on the spot. I'm not afraid of dark, mind you, just the things "hiding in the dark"....
