Making 'home-made, hand-did primitive rag dolls has been a passion of mine for years .. (had a most wonderful Rag Doll Club for ten years when we lived in Maryland!) and always, my dollies come with 'a story' ... they are each adopted out from Sister Mercy's Foundlin' Home for Rag Chillun. Here's the story of Lula Mae Silver .. a recent rag chile that Sister Mercy saw ambling down the hill to the orphanage .. (stopping often to smell the flowers!)
(Lula Mae has found a loving home!)

Lula Mae, she have a good heart and a
smile allus on her little brown face.
She be hopin’ thet effen she gets ‘dopted ..
thet her new fambly will take her to

Prayer meetins each wensday nite.

Lula Mae don' be doin' much talkin' jus'

to Jezuz to watch after her mammy and
pap who wuz took off to heaven by a band
of angels when there wuz a mos' unfortunate
mis-hap tween dere horse buggy an' a tractor
out onto de road whut leads to the Ebenezer

and someday she be an antique doll

How sweet! Can you post a picture of your dolls? I would love to see them. I am looking forward to grandgirls someday to make such dolls for them, and of course to have tea parties with when they come to Amma's to visit.
