Hurray! My first full dozen eggs! Those pullet eggs are so cute and puny.
It's hard to tell the light coloured eggs are green!

Wonderful! Aren't chickens just the best pets? What are you going to make with all those yummy eggs?

Hey ya'll, Those eggs are pretty, I am going to get hens in the spring, what kind are good layers? I would also like eggs that the yolks aren't so orange. Any suggestions?

Currently I have 2 araucanas, 2 black australorps, and 5 bantys (that aren't laying yet). I ordered 2 red star, 2 silver laced wyandottes, and 2 anconas.
I don't have anything special planned for the eggs, I ate some, and cooked the rest up for the dogs and cats. Then I baked the shells, crushed them up, and gave them to the chickens as a calcium supplement.
Yolk color is dependent upon what the chicken eats. If you feed chickens a colorless diet their yolks will actually be almost clear! The yellow color comes from plant pigments known as xanthophylls. So if you feed marigold petals it will actually change the color of the yolk! |

Huh, that is interesting, so what do you feed the chickens for the yolks to stay light, I know my kids won't eat orange scrambled eggs. LOL.

I just feed mine scratch, crumbles, grass, and fruit (and whatever bugs they can scratch up). When I make scrambled eggs they are yellow and white. *shrugs* |
