Hello...I am new here....Am loving all of the different topics...I have lived without electricity, hauled my own water, raised just about every animal known and more...LOVE being a farmgirl....Does anyone else Love being a Farmgirl?

Hey, I wouldn't want to be or do anything else! I LOVE being a farmgirl. I think it was always in me. My grandparents on both sides were preachers but also farmers. I guess i inherited their "jeans"?
Just waking up each morning to such beautiful peace is amazing! Love it, love it, love it!!!!

| Oh yeah, I forgot to say I could NOT live without electricity at all! The older I get the more I HATE this hot weather. But I do admire anyone who does it. You go girl!! Although I could maybe haul water. |

Hello Girls...I guess I forgot to say...I have electricity now and do not have to haul water anymore, I am too out of shape for that...But, still LOVE my 5 acre farm....

Hello Terri from eastern Washington. I too Love being a farmgirl!!
I myself would rather have running water, or at least a handpump close by, than electric if I had to choose. Hauling water is not fun.

I am glad to see, that I am not alone in my Farmgirl heart, thought for years, I might be just a little crazy in the head, loving to get my hands in the dirt and such, NOW I know I am not.....Thanks to all of you other Farmgirls....

Terri I love being a farmgirl too!! Nothing better than getting dirty. I have a mini farm right now with chickens, a rabbit and soon 1 lamb! But we are planning the real thing..and I cant wait to look out my window and see my barn!! I think at some point we all thought we were lone farmgirls but we're not. Not every girl has the desire to be one but to those who do were born with it in our souls!!!!

Right now I have to make do with my 1/3 acre in the suburbs. But I have a big garden (and it will be twice as big next year) and I pretend my shed is my barn and the birds which visit my feeders are my chickens. Since we feed the birds we have lots of mice and hence lots of visiting neighborhood cats which are therefore my "barn cats". Oh, and I can't forget the bunnies in the front yard and the fox which looks for the bunnies! A girls got to do what ever it takes until she can get that little slice of heaven in the country! But yes, my friends all think I'm a bit off in the head!

| Audrey, your post gave me a chuckle! i'm the same way right now. dreaming about my own farm someday, but definately making due with my first garden and 3/4 acre in a small country town. i'm so surprised how much more i notice nature and the natural cycles living in the country and among farms. right now it's the beginning of fall.... the wheat is starting to turn golden and the leaves are starting to turn yellow, as well. i wouldn't give up this lifestyle for anything! i know i didn't notice the subtlties of nature when i had to live in the city. it's just not the same. i get butterflies thinking about my chores in the garden (give me weeding any day over doing the dishes inside!) |

I love being a farmgirl too, always have. But it's sure nice to know theres others with like minds out there. I like all the fun things but theres hard work to and its a different kind of love, you know its got to be done and the results are worth it. This weekend I got to butcher out about 50 roosters, not my favorite thing to do but it has to be done before they start fighting each other. So far so good. This will leave me one rooster and 50+ hens in the Hen Den. So much bettter on the feed bill too.
I do like the part that I can help feed my family foods from the garden and growing our own meat that are safe. Weed pulling and butchering are on my least favorites but in a days works I wound't have it any other way either.
I'm with ya Mother Hen Dawn, gathering eggs, the harvest from the garden, and wading in the creeks and sometimes a dip in the pond and swim with a Canadian Goose

I couldn't imagine being anything ELSE! While I did not grow up on a farm, (but my dad's parents were almond farmers-- so I got LOTS of country exposure!), it has been my dream to live on once since I was in the 3rd grade. One of my classmates brought a dairy cow to school for show and tell and we all got to try our hand at milking. I vowed then and there that I would spend my grown up years on a farm and raise my children there. Well, God certainly heard THAT particular prayer, 'cause here I am, 20yrs a farmgirl with three teenage boys who've known nothing else!!!
When my husband was young this was a working dairy, (he's lived here all his life) but there have been no cows here for nearly 30yrs, other than an occasional steer for butchering. Now that I have mastered the "art" of raising just about ALL of God's barnyard critters-- I think it's time to finally start adding a dairy cow or two (or TEN!) back into the fold. WOO-HOO!! We farmgirls are SO COOL!!!! (LOL)

I am a Washington transplant,,,& live on 5 acres of "heaven"
I am having fun learning to garden Pacific Northwest(Inland)style which I guess I must be doing pretty good, because the deer are enjoying my crops too! Last nights "raider" was a male, Buck, deer and I guess he didn't think we would be returning so early(9pm) from town...needless to say, I have fewer leaves on my Rainer Cherry trees...sighhhh, I guess I should be greatful he left me a few leaves! lol! He did give us that, "I'll be back" look as he jumped pur fence...
So where in WA are you??? N.S.E.or W?

Terri the next quilt show that I know of is in Spokane the 17th,18th, & 19th of October at the fairgrounds. It is put on by WSQ aka Washington State Quilters. I think it is one of the best quilt shows west of the Missisippi. That's just my humble opinion of course, ;^)
