NO signs whatsoever of diabetic retinopothy .. thank you good lord! kathy called me while i was there .. she's packing up for one of her big OHIO shows this coming weekend! soon's i'm all fit as a fiddle .. we'll all 'do lunch' ..and mayhaps a 'chick flick'! and good luck with that upcoming trip 'back home' .. you'll be in my prayers!

Girl, it is a wonder i don't run into you more often in Etown! I was just through doing some errands today again too. Glad to hear your eye check was good and all is fine. Well, I do not know when things will settle down for any of us but we will do that lunch and chick flick with Kathy again soon. I may have to run by you a few minutes before then to pick up the journey loom, though. I have all this ribbon and yarn from the Gathering that i need to put on it before it is sucked into the mass of stuff accumulating in my teeny tiny, ever shrinkin, studio room!

Thank you for your kind prayers on my upcoming 'thang' in NJ! You will be in mine as well on that 'auspicious' day!

ohhhhh CHRIS .. how wonderous is your beautiful farm .. LOVE the window!!!! can hardly wait t'il you live here full-time .. we'll do lots of 'road-runnin' and 'creatin'!!!

I would have to second that Chris!

Love your narrative of the gathering on your beautiful blog. Alas, I have absolutely no pictures of any of it! I would love to get copies of the ones you may have of my place. I need to put something on my blog soon and have no visuals. I may just put a link to all the beautiful entries on everyone else's blogs. Can I do that?

ha! i think i've made some of uz 'paranoid' (including ME) about the 'bi-otchin' thang' ... i guess that is not a 'bad' thing 'in the beginning' to sensitize us to our words .. but i do believe it is the INTENT .. and i'm thinking you were jus' 'alas-ing' and i don't think that counts! i'm getting ready to post some 'pretty pictures' of your charming place in a minute .. right here in frannieville .. keep a-watchin' ... AND .. i'll send them all to the ya-ya's (in a larger size) too.

WHAT AM I DOING UP AT 4 A.M.???? my insulin pump went 'dry' (empty) and it kept buzzin' and bingin' me! so UP i am .. love the silence and the dark! xo

OHHH! what an Autumn Wonderland greeted us as we all drove up to Luna and Alan's beautiful Sheep Farm and gorgeous olde Farmhouse!

The 'ladies' and 'gentlemen' sheep are absolutely darling! And i'll share photos of them soon too! The Harvest Stew was absolutely DEVINE! That Alan is like a European Chef! Everything he conjures up is 'magic in your mouth'. and home-baked breads that took you back to your momma's own kitchen of your childhood!!!

It was so beautiful in every direction you looked .. autumn vignettes .. pumpkins, haystacks, hay bales, gourds, mums, bittersweet and a resident 'scarecrow' .. ohhh .. and the "tree stars" (leaves) dancing to the ground when the wind would blow her gentle breath. the weather could not have been more PERFECT! all the gods and nature opened their arms wide and created a bounteous evening for us all! gurlfrenz here and gurlfrenz there .. all walking about .. creating .. dining together and sitting and chatting. laughing and yes, some crying and hugging too as some of the women shared their stories with each other. be watching for MORE stories and pictures soon .. but for now .. just listen to the music in your heart as you enjoy the 'magic' of this beautiful place in kentucky:

and here is that lovely Harvest Stew recipe!

HARVEST STEW

Add and subtract to this wholesome soup by using what's available—it's the MaryJane way.

4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 cup sliced leeks
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tbsp. olive oil
14 cups 1-inch pieces harvest vegetables and fruits, such as peeled sweet potatoes, Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled butternut squash, peeled beets, Granny Smith apples, and/or peeled parsnips
8 cups chicken broth
1 cup pitted green olives, chopped
2 Tbsp. finely chopped peeled fresh ginger
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
2 tsp. sweet paprika
1 tsp. ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cardamom
3 strips orange peel, white pith removed
2 bay leaves
1/2 cup snipped fresh Italian parsley
1/2 cup snipped fresh mint
1/2 cup slivered almonds, toasted
1/2 cup chopped pistachio nuts, toasted

In a large kettle, cook chicken, onion, leeks and garlic in hot oil until brown. Stir in harvest vegetables and fruits, broth, olives, ginger, cumin, paprika, pepper, salt, cardamom, peel, and bay leaves. Bring stew to boiling. Boil, uncovered, 5 minutes. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 40 to 50 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Remove and discard bay leaves. Stir in parsley, mint, almonds, and pistachio nuts just before serving. Makes 10 to 12 servings.

miz luna and i met up in SONORA today (brenda .. i couldn't find an e-mail addy for you!!!) be sure to e-mail me with it!! sure wish you'd been with us today!

we met at one of the great little antiques shoppes .. luna had a big box filled and i was pleased to find a very dear 'child's vintage apron' for my collection. and what a sweetheart of a man who owned the shoppe .. i'll tell you what he did for us a little later!

then we went to JAXSOAPS .. and what a dear Jackie is!!! miz brenda .. i told her that YOU sent us to her! well .. we both got hand-made soaps and candles (i'll take pictures of all my treasures tomorrow to show ya'!) she even had one that i think was called Kentucky Moon Rain ('er sumpthin' like that!) well, you know that luna and i both got those too! ohhhh! and i bought a bar of soap that was covered with 'felted wool' (luna has made these too!) jackie said you 'leave the wool on them' and wash with the bar of soap! it's almost toooo pretty to actually USE! and what very reasonable soaps and candles .. i got bunches as 'gifts' .. i adore giving 'kentucky hand-crafted' treasures to friends! we loved meeting jackie and will include her in our future 'roamings'! (she moved here from California this year!)

THEN .. that sweet man i told you about above .. made a phone call to the historic 'tea room' and 'guest house' in town .. and told the owner he was sending some friends to see him .. and by the time we walked the two blocks (country blocks) in crunchy fall leaves ... we were smilin' real big!

he invited us in .. and i do believe we were there for well over an hour .. as he toured us through his beautiful home and tea room. there is much construction going on .. and their plans for expansion is awesome! I WILL go back with a camera .. and oh my gosh! he does a 'cajun shrimp/potato/corn-on-the-cob' boil dinner .. we're gonna' get a bunch of friends and all go there soon! the tea room is open by appointment only now and for 'groups' .. but that will be easy enuff to do .. gather some local friends for 'tea and shrimp' .. O.K. ... NOT together! i plan on taking our Green County Arts Council there sometime soon! (i'll tell you lots more about JAXSOAPS and this wonderful historic home soon too!)

by the time we ambled back to our cars parked by the antiques shoppes .. we decided to stop at the darling little 'cafe' that brenda suggested .. had yummy home-made meatloaf/mashed 'taters/green beans/cole slaw and HO CAKES!

then on our way back to our car .. the other antiques shoppe was open. luna got a HUGE metal bucket and i got an AWESOME grey enamel HUGE coffee pot .. vinatage .. in FABULOUS useable condition!! for only $35.

THEN .. luna had a hair appointment in e-town and i decided to check out her fav salon .. AND .. got my hair washed and 'blow dried' .. it looks GREAT!!!!!!! LOVE having someone else massage my scalp and fiddle with my hair! i'll be goin' there every week or two from now on me-thinks! OH .. and luna's hairdresser has short black hair and had just put in HOT PINK frosting .. OHHHHHHHHHH .. i'm goin' back for some of that come springtime when the pink tulips bloom!

They showed me some fun and very COLORFUL hair STREAKS you can buy and just clip in your hair! i got TWO in 'autumn orange'!

i left luna still sittin' in the chair to rush off to find some treasures for my grandchildren .. (i send all of them a 'monthly little' sumpthin'-sumpthin' giftie from their 'grandes' .. got them each a book .. and wednesday is having her first KNITTING class at a cute shoppe in toledo tomorrow .. sooo i found a wonderful 'beginner' knitting book for her!

oh what a wonderous day .. i do so love KENTUCKY and spending these 'freedom' years here!

OHHHHHH GURLZ! i almost forgot to share that i had to THWACK me twice today. Luna said that the first 'complaint' really wasn't a 'complaint' .. we saw a plumber's truck at the wonderful historic home we visited .. luna commented that that was HER plumber too. i responded .. 'perhaps i should get his name .. we've spent over a thousand dollars on our septic and having two new potties installed and one of them STILL stops up! HA! just ask betty jo!!!!!!

but i had already changed that band to my t'other wrist and 'thwacked' me! (so i'm thinkin' i get a 'freebie' complaint??)

o.k. .. the second one i deserved! we were talking about New Jersey with one of the antiques shop-owners .. and luna mentioned the county she was from .. i told her that i had worked for Congresswoman Dwyer who represented her county .. and THEN .. i gossipped!!! i told her a 'secret' .. so i THWACKED me real hard! (i'm using my rubber banded diabetes bracelet .. but it has a 'metal plate' .. and i'm here to tell you .. i won't be thawacking my wrist with THAT part of the band ever again! i almost 'cussed' .. and would have had to THWACK it again!

how'd you gurlz do in th grouching/gossipin' department today? xo

Hi Frannie...so glad you and Luna got to browse around Sonora. There is'nt much, they are trying to put some life back in the little tiny town. Ken from Ken's Odds and Ends (I belive it is called, the shop next to Jaxsoaps) is a sweetie...I found he is from Ohio as well, and I love rambling through his place. I guess I am more of a rumage-or, junk and thrift store kinda gal, than the fancier Antique Stores. I LOVE JUNK...teheee. I am very sorry I missed you and Luna, (boo hoo) I was out your way, checking on my property in Edmonton. Next time....oh and my email is:lostacreslady@yahoo.com Glad you had a Fun Day! Brenda

Hi Brenda

Sorry we missed you. It was fun and we did do a lot of rammaging. Ken is a sweetie. I've spent some time in his place a time or two before. He is pretty talented too in re-purposing some of his olde junque. And the gentleman across the street is just a charmer. I had met his wife before who is also a sweetie. They have a great collection of more what i would call vintage stuff which i do love. And JAXSoap is and Jackie is another sweetheart. Really enjoyed meeting her. Really nice soaps, candles and teas and even felted soap which i have not seen anywhere else areound here. Then the tea room, wow, so it really was a good day's worth of stuff to play around with.

And it was a LITTLE box!

good saturday morning ya's! can't decide whether or not to head for glendale .. have quite a few things to do here at the farm today! i'll figger it out by noon!

anyhoo .. last night i started reading my newest book purchase: AS A MAN THINKETH by James Allen .. he wrote this in 1902 .. and this is a slightly 'updated' version so the 'language' flows a little smoother .. and still .. you have to pay CLOSE attention .. and sometimes read a sentence several times to 'grasp' it.

i'll quote a few things from this book from time to time .. and while i don't expect everyone to ascribe to his philosophy (there are some passages that i am still pondering!!) ... the 'concepts' of most of what he writes rings very true for ME! jus' wanted to share them with you. (take 'em or leave 'em sweeties) .. and .. if you wish to discuss something .. i would adore that .. as long as it is in a kind and loving spirit!!! as THAT is the spirit in which i share them with you. xoxo

his book starts out thusly:

"The Book of Proverbs (23:7) proclaims, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." This adage reaches out to every condition and circumstance of human endeavor. Each of us is literally WHAT WE THINK, our character being the complete sum of all our thoughts".

James Allen goes on to say: "As the plant springs from and could not be without the seed, so every one of our acts springs from the hidden seeds of thught and could not have appeared without them. This appllies equally to those acts called spontaneous and unpremediated as to those that are deliberately executed.

(yep! had to read THAT sentence about three times!) ... and he continues:

"Action is the blossom of thought, and joy and suffering are its fruits; thus do we garner in the sweet and bitter harvest of our own plantings. We are what we think we think we are."

Sticking your tongue out ensures that you will not poke yourself with a sharp, barbed needle!! lol I love that quote by James Allen. My dad has an old copy of that book on his shelf in his office. I may have to grab it and read it. :)
