Got up bright and early this morning to do some last minute packing for OHIO tomorrow! sooooo excited to be going to hug the little darling grandes!
Then .. i headed towards beautiful Bardstown, via the windy, rippling back roads. As i drove around enjoying the slight hint of autumn approaching .. i drove through and past areas that i really didn't even know the NAME of (no SIGNS) ..
i remembered when i first moved here .. i couldn't figure out what 'town' our farm was in. Again .. no SIGNS! i saw where other little towns began and ended.
I asked a new friend, our Clerk of the Court .. she just smiled and said the area where we lived had NO name on the County maps .. it is simply in GREEN COUNTY.
Now .. our MAILING address is Mt. Sherman .. which is several towns over and even in a different COUNTY!
I thought of the last five years i have lived here and realized all the places i had been and adventures i had while visiting them. I realized that my adventures were truly those of my heart and memory .. in FRANNIEVILLE!
Soooo .. from time to time .. i will write more of those adventures .. right here .. in this thread entitled: Frannieville, Kentucky. Come along with me and enjoy those i meet, the places and sites i see .. the adventures i have. AND OH MY YESSSSS! i do indeed want to hear YOUR stories from: YOURVILLE!

well darlin' debra .. (and all my other ya-ya's!) . TODAY ... Wednesday, September 10 .. was wonderful! I met friend Kathy (who you all must know by now is my SUGARBUCKET pal) .. at a charming new Mexican Restaurant in Bardstown. T'was not the BEST mexican food i've ever had .. but the restaurant was festive and fun. All the tables were 'paintings' .. i remember the ones with the horses the most! i've never seen tables like that before anywhere. The chairs were bright and colorful.
HOWEVER .. the DESSERT was to DIE for! HA! and i almost DID! We had FRIED ice cream with FRIED cheesecake .. OH MY!!!!!!!!!! even though we SHARED it .. my sugars managed to surge to over 300! (terrible to say .. but it was worth it!)
After lunch .. Kathy took me to meet a new friend .. Judy .. who is an amazing woman. She is a tad older than me and lives in the most magnificent early 1700's STONE home i've ever seen .. WITH .. be still my heart! a log cabin which was built about a century later.
Now Kathy knew i was in for a surprize when three little 'asses' came to the gate to greet us! MINIATURE DONKEYS! Oh .. and i swear .. if i were to choose another PET .. it would be one of these! I took lots of fun photos (will post them shortly) of Judy's little critters ..
her stone home .. log cabin and MAGNIFICENT (too homely a word to describe her) VERY EARLY and FINE FINE FINE antique furniture!!! Much of it came from her home state of Connecticut with her to Kentucky 30 some years ago. And she has managed to find some FINE Kentucky pieces too! It was like being in a museum .. without all the 'no-touching' rules!
This sweet woman, Judy .. had a smile on her face from ear to ear .. her gorgeous silver hair and brown-tanned legs (in shorts) AND she looked GREAT!!! .. she was all lady .. but not a sissy one for sure! She had a GREAT sense of humor .. and 'timing' when telling a story. Her husband passed away a few years ago .. and her face lit up and eyes twinkled when she spoke of their lives together.
Gurlz .. i gotta' run finish packing for our trip .. but .. i'll TRY to get back up here tonight to post a few photos .. IF .. i get too busy .. i will indeed share them with you when i return.
OHHHHHHHHHH .. and ya' better believe i'll have lots of PARTY pictures and stories to share too!

sounds wonderful.. all I did was sew a bag, take a few rides around the block with the kiddos on the quad runner, and go pick up a couple of cases of brocolli.. will steam, puree and then hide them in any recipe I can.. for the kiddos..
I miss having local friends. my sisters.. all back in Oregon, 1 moved back to Michigan and is now on her way to North Carolina.
I hope when we settle in MO that I find some new sista's!

Judy's beautiful olde stone house and log cabin
another view of the stone house
the stonehouse and log cabin used to be joined together by an open 'dog trot'.. then the 'trot' was enclosed ... but the 'pass through' caught on fire (from the cabin side) .. it was appropriately never replaced.
THE LOG CABIN (the stone house was MAGNIFICENT ... but i left my heart in the cabin!)
Judy's faithful dog hung with us whereever we went.

cathy gurl .. you will be happy to hear that i FINALLY found 'joe's' .. i 'bout got run through by a HUGE 18-wheeler .. cuz' i missed my turn .. put my blinker on .. i think i'd actually had it on half-way there! had to do a 'turn-around' .. but i got Gorgeous Pumpkins and gourds!
have put a bunch of them by the car (along with your lovely plants .. and TWELVE big boxes of American Girls Dolls and stuff .. (ha! not to mention 'fancy nancy' fripperies). we head out in the morning .. be back on monday .. TUESDAY .. i have an arts council committee meeting (we're going to get started on one of my most favorite projects we've talked about doing ... Mimi has named it GREEN COUNTY 101 ... we'll invite people (especially 'olde timers .. but not limited to!) to come to the Olde Courthouse and share stories about their lives and memories of living here .. we're gonna' come up with some subjects and dates .. and record everyone's stories. I am so very excited about this!
BEFORE i head to the meeting .. i'll be by for my big van load of beautiful 'fleurs' from COBBLESTONE FARMS! YOU pick 'em honey .. and i'll love 'em!

a very few of judy's wonderfuls:
there just aren't enough great adjectives to describe all her lovelies .. i'll try to use just ONE with each picture!
BEAUTIFUL early dresser .. i especially LOVED the locked jewelry case on top of it. both are from New England.
this little guy stole my heart .. she has TWO .. made by the same 'outsider folk artist' ... made from GOURDS!
same artist .. still a GOURD! dear giraffe
i adore this GREAT elephant too!
her stone house goes on and on and on .. even the log cabin had FOUR rooms! loved this little 'secret stairway' in one of the bedrooms!
now judy was simply ADORABLE as she showed us the 'wooden' longhunter's rifle and pistol and other 'wooden' guns that she collected (from found wood) for her husband.
she spoke often and fondly of him our entire visit. he is always with her in her heart and thoughts. it is obvious they had a deep love-story.
i just had to take a photo of the NOTCHES in the stairway bannister leading up to the bedrooms. Judy told us that her husband used to make up 'great stories' about things in their home. He told the story of how a Civil War Soldier rode his horse up the winding stairway .. carving notches as he went along.
I told her i was sure the 'true story' was that he was carving NOTCHES into that bannister as he came DOWN from visiting the ladies in those bedrooms upstairs. HA! she said she liked my version better! what a cutie pie .. and oh my gosh .. i was so loving her 'intelligence' and memory recall.
o.k. .. i've saved 'the best for last'. Judy said she and her dear husband had dreamed for many years of owning a stately olde stone house .. he bought this door knocker for her years before finding their beloved home in Kentucky.
what a precious day. i thank my sweet kathy for including me in it!

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! ya'll jus' THINK the day is over!
after leaving Judy's magnificent mansion and quaint cabin ... we headed back to Bardstown ... did a little antiquin' .. neither of us found anything we jus HAD to bring home today though .. THEN ... we visited Bardstown's ADORABLE 'Art in Raspberry Alley' .. i'll show some pics of it next!
THEN .. while there was still stores open .. kathy and i went on a quest to find new JEANS! neither of us found those .. but we both found some fun autumn 'tops' .. then kathy headed for groceries .. and "I" ran to the TOY and FABRIC department in search of more 'fineries' for Sofia's Party. I got SIX shades of sparkly netting .. to make 'shawls' for each of the 'big gurlz' (moms and grammies, aunts and adult cousins) coming to the party). still on a quest for BOAS .. but friend TWIGS told me where i can get them for a BUCK .. i'm heading there tomorrow on our way to OHIO!
OH! OH! OH! and we visited the CUTEST children's very up-scale clothing store in Bardstown! where i got three-month olde Iszabel her very own lavendar ballet tu-tu and matching headband. oh my gosh!!! it is soooooo adorable! as cute as the PINK one i got for Sofia last week! it's already packed .. or i'd take pics. i'll snap some of Iszabel dressed in it for the party and post 'em when we get back home!

Bardstown has created the most wonderful ALLEY .. filled with flowers and flags with silk-screened paintings by local artists. it is truly delightful!
they have boarded the broken windows and painted them all the same color
there were indeed a couple 'Boo Radley' windows left uncovered .. actually, i found them to be somewhat charming! broken glass
spider webs and all!

i rode home whistlin' a happy tune and thinking over today's adventures with a smile. it was still light when i arrived at our cabin door .. sooo .. soon's i put all my clothes and gifts away .. i packed for our trip ... went outside and painted a bench .. came back inside (we'd both already had dinner .. honey-man conjured up a little sumpthin' sumpthin' for himself .. i grabbed a burger on the way home from Mickey D's) .. hit the computer (for LONGER than i should have!) .. and now .. i'm about to 'hit' the bed! up bright and early tomorrow .. cuz' kathy and michael are coming a day early to put down the 'tree house floor'!!! (will try to take a coupla' pics before we leave).
you sweet gurlfrenz have a wonderful thursday/friday/saturday/sunday/monday .. i'll be back home sweet kentucky home late monday night .. and will check in to see what ya'll been up to!

9/11 ... my heart is heavy in memory of the terrible tragedy where we lost so many good people.
my spirits are lifted again when arriving in toledo tonight .. and tip-toeing into the bedrooms of our little grand-daughters (Iszabel ... 3 months and Sofia .. 2 years) and adoring their sleeping little selves! AND by the big smiles, hugs and kisses of grand-son Lucas (7) who waited up for us!
life truly does go on.

daughter wednesday tells me that there is a family here in toledo who is having a home built for them by the TV show .... gosh! can't think of he name of it ... something like HOME MAKE-OVER. It is for a fireman and his wife who have three sons .. and just adopted EIGHT more! We are going to try to go there on Sunday after Sofia's morning Brunch FANCY tea party to yell:
'MOVE THAT BUS!!!!'
if we can get anywhere near it .. i'll take some pics and tell ya'll all about it when we get back home next week. xo

i was thinking tonight about the very first time i saw my very first grandchild (a grand-daughter) ... i actually saw her BEFORE she was born. the nurse said to me "would you like to see your grandchild?"
and she let me peek (with my daughter's permission .. of course) .. at her little mop of hair as she was "crowning"
... what an incredible miracle ... seeing her being born ... and then the doctor handed me the surgical scissors and asked me if i wanted to 'cut the cord'. (granddaughter jennifer and i have been connected by the heart ever since that day over 21 years ago!)
do you gurlz have any sweet memories of your own children and/or grandchildren being born ... or the first time you saw them? oh please do share your stories. xo

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 14
the day is winding down ... shadows overtake the forest i look at from the sunroom here in toledo .. it's like sitting up in a tall treeshouse .. with a view of the creek below. BEAUTIFUL!
what a sweet day we have all had at little sofia's second birthday party. i'll share stories and pictures here in this thread when i get home.
ya-ya's ... i've not been taking the time to read too may other threads lately ... and those that i do .. i e-mail my responses directly to you.. where i feel free to 'say my heart' without getting someone's panties in a bunch! (what a ridiculous way to spend one's moments on earth!) .. gosh! it is amazingly wonderful how many more minutes (sometimes hours) i add to my day doing it this way!!! i've MISSED that time PROFOUNDLY in finding even more time to do so many important and fun things! AND .. quite honestly, i'm a big believer in only reading what makes you happy ... or adds to your I.Q.!!!!!!! (information quotient!)

we're headin' home this morning. gonna' miss these cherubs so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i had to giggle at wednesday yesterday .. she was holding iszabel .. jus' giving her sweet little body loving rubs .. she looked up and said: "it's a good thing mother's don't eat their young ... babies are sooo yummy" ... i told her that her children are so sweet that if that were so .. she would be childless.
a little later, i was changing iszabel's teensy diaper .. i proclaimed that she felt just like 'butter'. aren't our babes just the delight of our lives! it is gong to be so hard to wave goodbye to them this morning!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15
we are home sweet kentucky home! jus' rolled in about an hour ago .. RAN to see our 'tree house' and how it is coming along! will post a pic in a coupla' minutes!!!
had such a wonderful time in toledo with the family ...
we ate the FIRST and LAST 'purple pepper' off the vine .. together .. it was deeeeeeelish! we were away so much this summer that we didn't much tend to the gardens .. but got enough yummy mouthfulls to have made it worth planting a few veggies!
TOMORROW .. i'm heading for Cathy Cobblestone's to bring home bunches of 'autumn' plants .. might stop at the pumpkin place for some more pumpkins and gourds too! and it is 'hay bale' and 'cornstalk' time too!

a fun drawing: haven't quite figgered out all the 'particulars' for another 'fun frannie game' .. oh be still my heart! we came home from toledo .. RAN to the TREEHOUSE .. and Kathy and Krew have been here two days while we were gone .. and put in the FLOOR .. and the TRUSSES for our Forest Green Tin Roof!!!
Next: the log railings and 'gate' (to keep ya' from fallin' offa' the 'tall side' .. and to keep the chilluns and dogs from wandering off!)
isn't it absolutely WONDERFUL! i swear .. it is as sturdy (ha! probably STURDIER than the log cabins!!) we're going to stain it a slightly lighter forest green than the tin roof .. and kathy is going to 'entwine' the posts with vines and tree twigs/limbs!

OHHHHHH .. next to figger out what 'furniture' i want to put on it! ahhhhhhhh! this is "MY" idea of 'camping'!!!!
probaby won't put any furniture on it t'il after our gathering ... wanna' save as much room as possible for 'cots' and 'sleeping bags'. xo

got a book at an antiques shoppe (i think it was written about 40 years ago) .. i had it before in my collection ... but i don't think i ever actually read it .. can't find it .. soooo .. i picked up this copy too.
