Dawn, thank you for the little gift! Wild Maven seed sounds like my distant youth and the air smell good-um is happily in the master bath. You are so thoughtful, truly, thank you

Lillian ~ thank you for the various seeds too! I really appreciate them and can't wait to try them in my garden.

My dearest Mavens, we sure have gotten quiet! I'll have to brainstorm and work up another rant How is everyone doing? Where is everyone in the AMV read-along? What do you all want for Christmas? Have you all been good girls or bad girls??? Inquiring minds...

I have to tell you all that in my quest to break out of the two peanut butter sandwich a day routine, I have sampled some yummy organic things...Organic "Real" vegetables and fruit are nothing like the store bought watery imitations. If you haven't had a real, organic baked potato, do try it...it was so tasty...and bananas taste like bananas should taste, but do not, coming from the supermarket...yum! I am going to start switching to as much naturally grown food as I can afford.

Wow - didn't check in yesterday and look waht happens.
Dawn, good to hear your voice and humor again:) Be sure to take care of yourself, at our age we don't bounce back quite like we used to but there is still time ( I can say that cuz i'm a year older than you)
Lora - sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now - am thinking about you.
Teresa Sue - I am right there with you in being suspicious about being sold something, even with people I trust I just don't buy the "program" thing I guess. I do know that exercise/weight loss/healthier eating will all produce amazing results in a variety of areas of health - imagine that - so I try to go with more moderate treatments. Let me know if you are planning on coming in to check out the store I work at so I can be sure to be there - I was bummed to miss you on Saturday.
Everyone else - good to hear your voices today.
It has been one of those weeks, leave the house at 5am home at 6pm the first couple days, had to have a very emotionally difficult conversation with one of my employees
I got home at 6:30 last night, no son, no note - my husband is out of town. The night before there was a note, Randy is usually really good about checking in. 8:00 rolls around, still no kid, I'm starting to get mad so I take the dog for a walk. As I'm heading down the hill I look across the street to the school and think to myself "I wonder why there are so many people at the school tonight....not a game night" oh right!!! The band concert, that's where Randy is, playing in the band. Amy gets the bad mom of the month award, totally forgot about the concert. I hate this time of year, way too much on my mental plate....
Hope you all are doing well - thoughts and prayers to all of you

Good morning, Mavens! How's it going, Ralph? Good evening, Corinne!

Had an introspective day yesterday and looks like it will continue for the near future so if I don't post as much it's because I've gone deep in thought. Hey, it doesn't happen often enough!

Amy, thanks for making me not feel alone in the forgetful arena. I used to teach elementary music and almost forgot my own concert one time. I asked my mom if she wanted to go to Kimmswick, a crafty little town near us, the next day. She said no, she had plans. My mom never had plans so I asked what she was doing. "Going to a children's music program." "Really? Where?" "KAREN!!!" I'm so bad about putting 2 and 2 together and getting 2 and 2 instead of 4. One of the things that's helped is a HUGE blackboard that I got at a yard sale. I thought DH would just shake his head at the last trash thing I brought home but he was excited - put it up on the wall right away and wrote chalk and eraser on the shopping list. Now when there's something I need to remember he writes in on the board for me! It wasn't just that he loved writing on chalkboards as kid, it's also his way of making sure I'll get things done!!!

TS, you got me back to the FlyLady sight and guess what I found: she has a body clutter investigator to help track your healthy living habits! Here's the link to the body clutter page: http://www.flylady.com/pages/body_clutter_main_1.asp Since you're mega-journaling this month anyways.....................

Later, mavens.

God bless -

Good Hallowe'en Mavens,
Annika I noticed we were a bit quiet too as I was hurridly(is that even a word?)reading posts, but not having time to post anything myself. It sounds like all of us is just trying to go day by day surviving what life is throwing at us for the moment. Don't worry it will all calm down so we can rant again!

Corinne, you my dear friend are so calm and reassuring for all of us, such a blessing to have a friend like you.

Any Grace you are NOT a bad mom. You are a human being who can only do so much. You know, motherhood can be such a blessing in many ways, but it can also be such an instrument of torture in many way also. We belittle ourselves because our children don't or do, things that may or may not be acceptable, we say negative things to ourselves if we think we have not lived up to some "Mother Standard". I had, let's say, a less than ideal childhood, so I did everything I could not to have that happen to my children and I thought I had done such a good job at giving my children a decent childhood. Imagine my surprise when one of my daughters started spouting about what a horriable childhood she thought she had. The hurt is unbelievable, what her idea of a bad childhood and mine are come from such different viewpoints. I finally have accepted that I was the best mom I could have been at the time. Would I have done some things different? You bet, all parents that love their children would. Will I ever be really, really, close to that child, no, because SHE keeps me at arm's length. It is her burden for whatever reason, I have no control over it, I can only love her. I guess what I'm trying to say in this rambling is don't be so hard on yourself. Talk to your son if that's an option, if not, and it's still really bothering you, maybe you need to rethink what you're doing. Sometimes you have to walk away from situations, jobs, or people. What I'm trying to say and not being very good at it,is, are you happy doing what you are doing? If not, make an exit plan girl! Huggss to you.

QMD I'm glad you're up and about, but would rest easier if you could get that condition figured out, cause I worry about you!!!!!!!
I showed Rene' my bracelet you made me and she thought it was pretty!
As soon as I get the cemetery done I have to excavate my office and then I can sit down and design the Mavens' badge. From the comments that I recieved on the thread in the henhouse we are going to go with the words- MJ'S HEIRLOOM MAVENS, with a tomato plant intertwined into it, I just have to figure out how to put it together. I went with the tomato plant because we are saving seeds to feed the world good non GMO food, the ornamentals are important too, but they are the "bonus" of what we are committed too, the frosting on the cake, if you will. All of you that didn't vote, ya snooze, ya lose!

Rene' thank you for the advice, along with all the other Mavens. I have decided that I will eat more raw food, I will excersise more, lose weight, all those things that intellectually I know are a good thing, but have avoided because it just seems like so much work, and somedays I am already overwhelmed with just living and adding all that seemed like too much. Anyway, I'm at a crossroads and I have decided to do better because I have much to accomplish. I will tell you I will look at the info you have suggested, I will eat more raw food, but quite frankly the thought of eating nothing but raw food the rest of my life leaves me depressed. I will be more moderate in my eating habits, much more raw food, but not all.

Lora I hope you are feeling better. Am sorry to hear about hubby, I think you are the third Maven(myself included)that has made reference to diabetic partner. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry this has been long, I've missed y'all! Everyone have a great day, off to the cemetery I go to battle the leafs, yes, I know the plural of leaf is leaves, but I just liked the sound of "leafs", lol.

Good Morning Maven's,
TS sounds like you have a GREAT plan, and have really thought it through and have been able to "wrap your head" around what will work for you.

I am "unplugging" for the weekend~ going to Coeur D Alene and working on the BBB among some other things.. (take pictures, write, etc.).. I am sure there will be "plenty" for me to read once I get "plugged back in". I don't do this often, just go away by my self and "just be", so I am greatly looking forward to it.

Helping to plan the BBB is such a great joy for me, and it is only fueled by the "great women" I have met (in person as well as on the forum), and I cannot wait until we all meet up in July.

As another little side note~ The prosserfarmchicks had a little "meeting" Tuesday night where we were joined by the local "press" who are doing an article/feature on us...OF COURSE I talked about MaryJane's, the farm, the farmgirls, the sisters and THE MAVEN's.........:) I will let you all know how that goes. Monday I will take the time to post the pictures as we always seem to have more fun then anyon should have. I keep telling the gals that they need to get more involved with the forum so that you can all see what I mean... We are a wild and wholly gang, which of course would fit right in with the rest.... right?

I know I haven't been posting much, but I have been reading and keeping up with everyone that way....

Oh, hey, TS is right~ the braclets that Dawn makes are devine ~ "brilliant"...(that is my favorite word, in which MaryJane busts me on every now and again), but I reserve it for my "favorite things" and WOW the braclets are "Brilliant".

OK. Dawn and Karen have my cell and if I am missing anything "big", Karen has promised to call me as I will check my messages once a day.

Oh Hey, you knowing "un-plugging" is a Badge.........Just saying!

Good morning Mavens, hope this day is a great day for ya'll.
Dawn, good to see you are back but I am joining the chorus here and wish you would go see your doc and have your blood checked and maybe your heartbeat too. Annika wishing you a happy day, Amy good to see your post and sorry to hear about your worries at work and at home, hoping you could rest a bit more, that helps in every situation when we are overwhelmed.
Karen, thanks for all the great advices here. Teresa Sue, play with the leafs for me too, we do not have any in Kuwait and I miss them.
Rene, enjoy your time just being.
I was reading "sleeping with a sunflower"by Louise Riotte and noticed she wrote several books about heirloom plants, companion plants and gardening by the moon. Fascinating and very well documented. She also wrote "Raising animals by the moon :
practical advice on breeding, birthing, weaning and raising animals in harmony with nature". if you look at www.bookfinder.com you will find them all, usually they are quite cheap.
We had a couple of rainstorms, that was wonderful. At 4.55 pm at the very moment it is almost night in Kuwait and the temperature is only 77 F. At night is is as low as 63 F, so we are really starting to feel fall here.
Have a good time what ever you have to do or choose to do or make today,
Huggsssss

Amy, ARGH! I hate when I do that - want to help someone and end up talking about myself! You are a strong and capable woman. We can all tell that from your posts. But even strong and capable women struggle when they get a lot piled up on their plate, whether it's time-, stuff- or relationship-related. So sorry you had to have that conversation with your employee. Praying it will resolve the issue one way or the other - whichever is best. There'll be more concerts. Do something special with Randy this weekend - not to excuse the fact that you missed the concert but just because you do enjoy spending time with him.

Rene, have a blast this weekend. I kinda figure wherever you go, it's gonna be a blast 'cause you take it with you!

Back to the introspection nest...........

God bless -

Thanks Rene', you always give us your support no matter what we do.
I guess part of the reason I can't just eat all raw foods is I do so love the whole cooking, baking, sharing rituals of food. When I'm feeling down, the first thing I do is bake something. The ritual of doing something that my foremothers did is just so comforting. Then there is the sharing of food with those you love, maybe someday I can get past all of that, but for now, I'm just not to that spirital level that I can leave all that behind. Does that make any sense? I know there are and have been many people that have reached such a spiritual level that food is unimportant except for the nourishment of the body. I know I'm not even close to being there, I can visulize it and even wrap my head around it and understand it, I just don't want to do that, it holds no appeal to me. Maybe in my next life, ;^)

Karen, I forgot, if you buy milk in glass jars, don't freeze it in them because it will break in the freezer.
Best wishes for the introspect session.
When you tell of your experiences while comisorating(spelling?) with someone you aren't doing a bad thing, it's how you relate to the given situation and you are just sharing it. You are a wonderful friend, don't sell yourself short.

HI girls!
I'm at work for my usual 8 hours a week. Whoopee dooo! I know I should be grateful that I even have a job inthese troubling times... I'll try harder.
To all: yes. I am going to demand a full blood work up, an mri, and anyother tests I can think of. I am sick of being sick. if it werent for humore I'd be a terrible person to be around.
TS: thank you for what you said about motherhood. I am copying that down to show my daughter that I'm not evil. Well, not entirely!
Amy: you are a good mom. keep repeating that to yourself. I forgot to pick my kid up from a school event once.... I forgot. IT HAPPENS.
Annika: glad you like the smelly stuff. i hope everyone else got their goodies all intact. I am hoping to get the pics of them all posted somewhere soon.
Have a wickedly wonderful day my pretties.....happy halloweeeeeeen!

Okay, got done with the morning walkies...I have an ancient mut that takes her sweet time with her business...wanted to get in the walk before it starts to rain. I think that we all show great care and sistership here. Everyone of us is important to the group and to each other. We have the true joy of becoming lasting friends if we want to.

I've been kind of quiet these last few days too. I have been thinking about how to reduce my negative impact on the eco-system and live a more whole life...that is some heavy thinking!

Teresa Sue, there is grace and joy in the making, let it be tending for the garden, making food to nourish our family or making a quilt, one stitch at the time. Our thoughts and intentions and love are intertwined into whatever we do well with all our ability and out of love. So keep baking and cooking. My only regret is that I cannot pull a chair at your table and eat your food, that would make my soul content too.

Corinne dear, that would make my soul content too. Yes, Annika it is some heavy thinking, I've been thinking on it a lot lately too. It is quite mind boggeling the path this little thread has set us upon, isn't it?

ok, well wishes to everyone and thanks for those sent to me. I think hubby's diabetes flared because he is not sleeping well. He sweeps parking lots at night. Leaves the house around 9 or so and gets home anywhere from 1a to 5a. Sleeps for a while then on Tue and Thurs has to take Lliam to school. I think he also has apnea but he won't ask the dr. Being stubborn as usual.

Lliam's name: the tradition in hubby's family is the first born son (in our case only child) has LWR for initials. Louis W. Rosencrans, Larry William Rosencrans, Lance Wade Rosencrans and finally Lliam Walker Rosencrans. Liam is the Irish form of William, but I added an extra "L" because my g-grandpa's name was Lloyd. As far as the Walker goes, it seemed like he was constantly kicking or walking during my pregnancy and it sounded good too. My brother thought it was for Liam Neesan and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars. ha.

PCOS - it won't completely go away even after menopause, but it should ease up. The insulin resistance that goes with it doesn't go away. It can be controlled with meds and diet.

Lilly, thanks for the seeds. I was so excited when I opened them. I have never even heard of a couple!
Dawn - Go see a doctor. Make arrangements for payments. They usually understand about those things. I received my beautiful bracelet and have worn it proudly. I love the smelly and can't wait to plant your seeds as well. Love the jokes too. Had to explain them to my son. Literally had to demonstrate the handful of sheet. He didn't get it. So I put a sheet on him, then goosed. I lifted the sheet and said what's in my hand. He said "A handful of sheet. Ohhhhh, I get it." lol

for those of you with whom I am trading things, I am going to the post office tomorrow. I have everything ready to go.

Corinne - thanks for the email. That was so nice. I sent it on to a few of my friends to make their day brighter.

Dawn: again: November 14 sounds great. I have it on the calendar. Lliam may have to with daddy that night sweeping. He likes to go once in awhile. He thinks it's special. He gets out and helps Lance pick up the bigger things that won't go in the sweeper truck. He went last night with him and didn't get up today until around 11.

Gotta run,
going trick or treating. Taking my little dog, Henry. He is going as a pumpkin. Lliam is going as a ghoul. fun times.

See ya;

Lora, it is good to hear from you as always. I hope that you get some relief from the pain and nasty symptoms of the PCOS. What meds are you on for the insulin resistance? my hunny is type II diabetic and so far hasn't been able to control it with diet alone and has to take meds too. Sleep apnea is no light thing. I hope your sweetie sees a doctor for it soon.

Happy Halloween Mavens!

Anyone else going out or doing anything special? dressing up in costume and scaring the neighbors? I live too far out in the sticks up a long scary bumpy road so I never get any trick-or-treat kids, but I like to see what others are up to

Hi, Lora - thanks for filling in the blanks. Enjoy the night with boy and dog. You'll get your treat when you visit Dawn.

Hubby just came in the with mail and there was an envelope from the Seed Savers Exchange. It was a welcome but most importantly, it mentions when the catalogs come out. FYI: Seed Savers Yearbook (500 pages) published each February; Summer Edition (80-120 pages) published in August; Harvest Edition (80-120 pages) published in November. Exciting times!

Dawn, how's the headache? Did the thoughts of Halloween trick-or-treating chase it away?

Here on Introspection Lane things are slowing moving along(?). Quick synopsis: last night at small group, we were watching a video and the speaker urged us to "do one thing every day out of conviction, not convenience." I missed the last half of the video because that phrase kept going through my head and hit me right between the eyes. So I'm working through that one..........

I was going to tell Annika this story but I thought you could all use a good laugh.

I don't dress up for Halloween anymore - at all - ever. Here's why: I loved to when I was young but when I got in high school and college, no one ever knew what I was. The next-to-the-last time I dressed up was my last year of college. I had a square dance dress from a musical I was in. I added white gloves, mouse ears and a whiskers and went as Minnie Mouse. Those that dared say anything wondered why I drew whiskers on my face. "You're Snow White, right?" "No, I'm Minnie Mouse. Notice the ears?" "Minnie Mouse didn't wear blue. She had a red dress with polka dots." Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me!

The last time I dressed up was about 15 years ago. One of the women in our group was going to have a Halloween party, costumes optional. Everyone else was dressing up and my friend convinced me to just wear something weird. "Wear something so they don't have to figure out what you are." So I got a multi-colored wig, colored my face white, drew funny shapes on it, used bright glittered eye-shadow and bright red lipstick. I can't even remember what clothes I wore but it was bizarre and bright. On the way there I realized I forgot to bring snacks so I had to go into the store looking like that but, hey, it was Halloween so I didn't get too many stares. I show up at the party and Debbie opens the door. In regular clothes. I look inside and every is wearing.........regular clothes. No one is dressed up. My friend, John, literally fell on the floor laughing because he knew how much I hated dressing up!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since her husband's co-workers weren't coming she decided "at the last minute" to make it informal. She "didn't have my number." ("Hey! You work with two people who do and they could have given it to ya!") We weren't best buddies to start with so needless to say it went downhill from there.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

God bless -

Oh! I would have been so mad! I don't dress up save to occasionally wear a pretty mask if I have to go to a dress up do.
