Annika, great idea - Christmas recipes. That's on my To Do list after I get all the mailing stuff together. Which I suppose I should go do now. I hate to tear myself away but I have laundry to do too. I'll be popping in and out.

Corinne, it's probably close to your bedtime so sweet dream, my dear.

Annika, I'll be thinking wonderful Christmassy thoughts of you and checking in as the day goes on.

I'm so glad the two (three) of you were here to chat with. I'm all warm and fuzzy inside now............

God bless -

Annika, I was doing the happy dance when I read that you're staying at Teresa Sue's too! And it looks like Alee will be there too! No one is going to get any sleep!!!

I'm not sure what I'm going to wear either. I like Dawn's idea of checking the Halloween stuff right now. I'm not the flapper-type so I'll need to find a good housewifey thing to wear! And if you all knew how much I hate to dress up, you would be so proud of me!

My favorite cookies are "snickerdoodles" and "Florentines", along with some German cookies from my great, great grandmother on that side. I will post some, I have to work out the whole wheat flour and see if I can make things light enough with it. I haven't used it as an only flour before and I am going to have to experiment this year. Last Christmas we made Milan panetonne, which is a wonderful fruit bread that I think you will all love.

Hey.... dont forget about meeeee (whiney). Karen did a good whiney last night on the phone when she CANCELED on me!!! I'm just joking. She and Robbie need to spend time with family and that means omitting a detour thru Ohio.....
Interesting how MY house gets nominated for dinner when I'm not online..... hmmmm. however, I'd be MORE than HAPPY to OBLIGE!
I cannot believe ya'll are thinking about Christmas. I think its my worst holiday. Thanksgiving runs a close second.... I try every year to have a decent attitude around the holidays, but I usually end up pretty cranky and blue. Seeing how my dd is including me a bit more in her life maybe this year will perk up. Hey, her b-day was the first one I got to spend with her in over 5 years.... there's hope!
Gonna go peek in the coop.
Corrine: I've saved all the emails you sent to me this past week. What a wonderful feeling I get from rereading those.... You are very special to me!!

Oh, Corinne, I'm so sorry about the change in plans. Adding that to my prayer list too and maybe God will see fit to change the plans again. Just know that you have our support and love wherever you are. (I'm sure you know that already but just wanted to put it in writing!)

A nice long apron and what ever you feel like underneath.... ?
Would like so much to be able to come.
Karen if you are on your way to the laundry room, have fun folding the clean laundried things, that is my favorite chore along with ironing. So glad we had a little private session of Maven Heavens today.

Oops, forgot that I didn't answer the Christmas recipe thread question. I vote for a separate thread as I put my recipes in a Thanksgiving & Christmas category and then recipes for the rest of the year.

Now, to the mailings...........

Dawn, Karen and Annika, you are the most caring and true friends to me that it is possible to have. thanks so very much for your love, unconditional support and for just being my sisters.
I feel such a sense of belonging since I have met ya'll, it has changed my life and I feel reassured that you will stick around and help me through the changes in my life as i am sticking to you through what ever happens in yours.
Thanks God for such a kind and caring group.
Dawn, it takes only one good moment each day to make it bearable, so hang on here and we will have a nice holidays with us around you holding you tight and sharing the fun and the traditions we all have.

Oh Corinne, I hope that you don't have to go back to Africa too! In my prayers , my dear friend, you will be able to retire early and will be back closer soon =) but I know in reality that you will have more travels before then.
Dawn, I get blue around the holidays too. I miss my mother, grandmother and great auntie so much and they were so much a part of it. I guess that is why I throw myself into with such joy. I will try to be relentlessly joyful =)
Karen, I know you are busy, we all just adore you and love chatting with you.

Hey, Dawn, I think the DD issue has a lot to do with the holidays. Since my dad passed away the holidays haven't been as jolly for me. My parents are gone, I have no brothers or sisters, and we have no children. Not saying this for pity, just to explain. And since we lived with my dad the first 7 years we were married and are still in the same house, it made it tough. I'm a slow learner so it took me the first five years to realize I get depresses (more or less depending on the year) during the holidays and I used to look so forward to them. This year I actually remembered so this week when I started feeling down, I thought, "Oh yea! 'Tis the season............." It helped.

And Dawn has a really CLEAN guest room now for all of us......hehhehheh

Now I'm REALLY signing off. Will check back at noon (45 minutes from now).

God bless -

Annika and Karen, we do not have children either. Raymond has 2 kids, grown up now, but it is not the same, we do not see them often and their mom kind of stayed too long in the way so my relationship with them is not a close one.. I tend to gather all the stray people we find where ever we are, like a bigger family.

It does make for a closer friendship. I never had children either, and so I gather strays too. We are all really one big dear family and adding more new friends only makes it better.

GIRLS IN MY CIRCLE
(My Maven Best Friend, Sister Circle)

When I was little,

I used to believe in the concept of one best friend,

And then I started to become a woman.

And then I found out that if you allow your heart to open up,

God would show you the best in many friends.

One friend is needed when you're going through things with your man.

Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom.

Another will sit beside you in the bleachers as you delight in your children and their activities.

Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be.

One friend will say, 'Let's cry together,'

Another , 'Let's fight together,'

Another , 'Let's walk away together.'

One friend will meet your spiritual need,

Another your shoe fetish,

Another your love for movies,

Another will be with you in your season of confusion,

Another will be your clarifier,

Another the wind beneath your wings.

But whatever their assignment in your life,

On whatever the occasion,

On whatever the day,

Or wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and hair pulled back,

Or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself ..

Those are your best friends.

It may all be wrapped up in one woman, But for many, it's wrapped up in several..

One from 7th grade,

One from high school,

Several from the college years,

A couple from old jobs,

On some days your mother,

On some days your neighbor,

On others, your sisters,

And on some days, your daughters.
