WOW, I had so much fun in Rosalia~ Wish you could have all been there, makes me crazy just waiting for the BBB. Today I spent with my Friend Karen Cooper she is one of the farmgirls that writes the Mokitime children's books, if you are looking for an awesome gift for kids in your life please check then out at www.mokitime.com and you can read about them in the Upcoming MaryJane's magazine Holiday issue... Some of the gals got to meet Karen at the Store's grand opening and know how amazing she is......

I have great pictures from Rosalia that I will try to get posted tonight. Amy Grace and Teresa Sue are as fun and amazing in person as they are here on the forum, what a joy it was to meet them. Kpaint~ is awesome too.... the whole group just lit up the room.

Yay! Three and counting..............

How was the rest of your day, Annika?

Dawn, the butternut squash was wonderful. There's a reason it's as hard to cut as sweet potatoes - it tastes very similar to them!

Hi, Tina! Anything and everything. This is kind of a general catch up time.

FYI: I "pulled" the last of the tomatoes from our garden yesterday and they're hanging upside down in the garage. Hopefully whatever is supposed to happen will do so in the next two weeks. I couldn't actually pull them since the weeds won the war toward the end of summer so I cut them as close to the root as I could. We'll see what happens............

It's supposed to freeze here tonight. Has anyone had their first hard freeze of the season yet? It's going into the mid-upper 20's and then warm up again after that. There's supposed to be a nice covering of frost to greet us in the morning.

God bless -

here's a recipe for making a green tomato salsa:

Green Salsa

Yield: 5 pints

5 cups chopped green tomatoes
1 1/2 cups seeded, chopped long green chiles
1/2 cup seeded finely chopped jalapeƱos
4 cups chopped onions
1 cup bottled lemon juice
6 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 Tbsp ground cumin*
3 Tbsp oregano leaves *
1 Tbsp salt
1 tsp black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan and stir frequently over high heat until mixture begins to boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Ladle hot salsa into pint jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace. Adjust lids and process in a boiling water canner 15 minutes at 0-1,000 feet altitude; 20 minutes at 1,001-6,000 feet; 25 minutes above 6,000 feet.

Okay, that recipe was worth the wait! I've never had green tomatoes but I love salsa (mild). DH is the big tomato eater and loves his salsa hot! hot! hot! And we can use the last of the jalapenos from our garden in the salsa too.

Another thing we tried this year was freezing the tomatoes whole. A friend of mine said her brother just puts them in the freezer in plastic bags and takes them out in the winter to use in spaghetti sauce and such. They're like croquet balls when they're frozen!

Hi, Lillian! What's happening in your neck of the woods?

TM, at 8:30 I need to put me to bed! DH gets up at 4:30 in the morning so we usually head for bed between 8:30 and 9:00. Since tomorrow is his first day back at work in two weeks, we're heading there early.

Oh, cheeseburgers, I remember them well! I get in a routine where everything I make is from a new recipe and the old stuff doesn't get made until DH says, "We haven't had ________ in awhile." I'll post the squash recipe tomorrow along with the other two I mentioned but haven't posted yet.

heehee that is a funny image Karen, tomato croquet.
I've given up for the year and let the weeds win as well. I will be a whirlwind of lethal weed slaughter in the spring, but with the holidays coming and more demands on my time, I let them have the yard this round. We have such obnoxious weeds that only real way to get them is when they are in their infancy

Annika, I'm not kidding. One fell on the floor when I was switching them from a regular ziploc to a foodsaver bag and I'm thankful it didn't land on my foot! DH was in the kitchen and we both started laughing. When a tomato falls on the floor and doesn't SPLAT, it's just not right!
