Hi, Alee -
I just put fundraising in your area since you're the treasurer but I know you've got a ton on your plate right now. Good job speaking up. Taking care of family comes first and you're doing a great job there.
Corinne, good morning to you! I wish you were closer too. At least we can meet through our fingers if not face to face.

Hi, Amy Grace! It isn't often I get to post when you're on. I may be posting tomorrow also to make up for being out of commission earlier this week. I actually did take a break this afternoon to do some decluttering in our second bedroom - otherwise known as the office and before that as the cats' room. I think the latter is more appropriate still since they seem to think all of my things are just toys for them to climb over and sleep on!

Now c'mon, I am not that loud...well, in real life I am.. one big guffaw of laughter. At least you always know how to find me in a crowd! Follow the belly laugh.. ************************************************* I shot Brenda off an email.. Dont know what happened there, but I sure hope she comes back. She has a lot of spunk (I've talked with her about some other issues) and she's got a lot of neat ideas and would be a great asset here. *************************************** Annika, I believe in you. I believe that you can overcome anything. Keep plugging girl. We are all on the right path... ************************************************ Karen: cell phone is dead. The opeing day of market came and went and I made exactly $1. I sold 4 apples. haha. Oh well, theres always another day... I did however get the shed painted. Now it just makes my barns look really bad in comparison. I did have a revelation while painting the shed. Invest in a sprayer for painting wood surfaces. My hand is all ganked up... ugh. **************************************************** Just a reminder that I work on Fridays, Sat, Sun and MOnday at the hatchery so I cant post much on those days. I had 2 weeks off, and posted a lot. But chick hatching will soon come to and end and you will be stuck with me 24/7. So count your blessings that all is quiet now! Geesh! What would you ever do if I worked 40 hours a week???? ************************************ Karen, great job on the organizing of ideas. I did get them all listed on paper, but you did a remarkable job of finalizing it. Did you take ideas from the henhouse as well? I will call you later today (Sunday). Or maybe you should call me so that you can listen to my chicken's clucking again?? No, I dont spend all day switching ringback tones on my phone. Just half a day...:o) ********************************************* Oh where oh where as our Rene'ne' been? yes, said rene'ne'... *********************************************** Will be working on seed packets today.. I am a fabricator at heart, so I will be sending out seed packets all this week. Do I have YOUR address??
Okay, thats enough for now. I gotta places to go and things to do!

Corinne - I love Powell's books. The flagship store in Portland is amazing - one whole city block. We lived in Portland for a year and it is a good thing we were too broke to even entertain the thought of buying a lot of books because I would have gotten into some serious trouble. Just wanted to say good morning and happy Sunday - DH is gone for a week so I won't be getting the look when I am on the computer too long. I will check back in. I am ordering some heirloom books today. Also - I like that we are keeping this thread going even though we have the henhouse so we are accessible. I hope Brenda comes back. Amy Grace

Good morning to ya'll. It is 7 pm here, so just a couple of hours left of my day, while you are just starting yours. Didn't do anything for the Mavens today but a lot for the charity bazaar we are planning for october 25 th which profits will be given to the animal shelter here in Kuwait. A few days ago ordered some vegetable heirloom seeds from Canada, will make some pocket packets to share with you, so will send them off to ya'll end of november when I am off for France. Corinne

I just realized why I havent done anything with this group yet.... by the time I get caught up with all ya'lls posts, the day is half over, by eyes are blurred shut, I have finger cramps from emailing and posting and a bladder infection becasue I've been holding "it" so long so that i can just take care of "one more thing" here.... If you want me, call me. I will be reading links from Annika's list!! hehe!

Okay, I'm going to tear myself away from the computer for awhile. Since DH is gone I have a prime opportunity for housecleaning - I don't know why but it is really hard to clean the house with him in it. So here I go.... Really, I'm getting up from the computer now.....

Well, that was an adventure. Robbie was thinking of going out to grab something for lunch so I went along. On the way there we decided to take the lunch to a park instead of eating in. So we're heading up the highway and at about the 3rd exit the car became hard to steer. So we pulled off and he checked under the engine. The belt tensioner (I don't know exactly what that does but thankfully my husband does) was loose so the alternator and power steering didn't work. So we started home. We'd just pulled on the highway when we heard "ding ding ding" - the temperature gauge had shot up and we had to pull right back off the highway, thankfully at a gas station. We called AAA, ate our lunch while we waited, got towed back to town where someone from our congregation was waiting to pick us up and take us home. Now we're home. Now I'm going to bed. I'm exhausted.
??? I thought there was gonna be some posting going on here today ???

Karen- It sounds like your timing belt snapped and possibly took the arm off of your water pump. Ask me how I know? I ruined a car because I had Nora in the back and was on a really dangerous road so I as pushing the car and burned up the engine. What you describe sound exactly like what happened to me, but you stopped much sooner than I did, so I hope you car is okay!

Ladies, I'm posting the following as a notice to those who are reading this post but may think they can't participate since they aren't in the sisterhood. Just doing a little chickherding. ***** MJ's Heirloom Mavens decided early on to keep participation in this group open to all. We've set up a henhouse to be more organized. It allows us to set up threads under the umbrella topic of MJ's Heirloom Mavens (those of us who want to take steps to keep our food free from genetic engineering (GE, also known as GMO - genetically modified organisms) and to preserve non-GMO seeds from becoming extinct. We are able to organize our thoughts and projects more effectively is possible in one long thread.
However, we realize that not every one is in the sisterhood and therefore not able to post to those threads (but everyone can read them). We also realize that there are times in our lives when $20 sisterhood fee might as well be $1000 because our budgets are so tight. For those women, we invite you to post here. You can comment on anything in this thread or in the henhouse threads.
To the mavens who are already clucking about the henhouse, please check in here as often as possible and post general info and comments here. This way there won't be too many feathers flying in the henhouse!
If you haven't had a reason to join the sisterhood yet, but are interested in preserving our food heritage, please consider it if for no other reason (and there are many) than it will help MaryJane and friends to keep this wonderful farmgirl connection up and running.

Hey, Alee! Thanks for the concern. It wasn't the timing belt this time. Ask me how I know? That's happened to me twice - once BC (before cellphones). Fortunately that time it happened at an intersection with a service station on the corner that was able to roll it in and work on it. (I wasn't so lucky as to be able to drive it home since it was right before closing time - but I was lucky enough that it happened right before closing time!)
It wasn't the timing belt yesterday since we were able to drive it after stopping. When the timing belt goes out, you're stuck, as you unfortunately had to experience, and it won't go anywhere once it's stopped. You've got some muscles, girl, to be able to push a car by yourself. You make us farmgirls proud!
