Good morning ladies, so many things have happened here while I was sleeping. Hurra for the hen house being opened and Tina... what a GREAT bumper sticker. I have MJ's one on my car in Kuwait and once in a while people stop me and ask what it stands for. Good night to all of you which time zone is just opposite to mine. Corinne

Tina, fantastic job on the bumper sticker! I want 10 also. I need 2 so if that's all I can get for round 1, that's fine. Thoughts are gelling for me on how to spread the message so once I light a spark somewhere I can tell I'm going to need more - hopefully, many, many, many, many, many more.

Look out, mavens, I had my first pain free night AND morning wake-up so I'll be posting as thoughts fly in and out of my head. I'm ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ck.
First thought, is there a way to have local chapters set up under our MJ's Heirloom Mavens banner or would they need to be set up individually? Or maybe I need to get a local chapter started and then have that as a division? A farmgirl relatively near to me started a chapter but I don't know if she really has it up and running yet. It's been awhile since I checked so I'll start there.
No second thought. It flew out my head already.

Yesterday when I was in town I broke down and bought the new MJ issue. I have a sub but it isn't here yet : ) I'm sure I can "find" someone to give my extra copy to. Anyway, haven't been able to read all of it yet, but what I have read is great. There is a quote in there I have to find and point out to y'all because I think it is so appropriate for this group. --- Rene, your article was so good. You do have a way with the words. I hope there is more to come. --- I wish y'all could just read my typing all run together, it just would be so much easier to type if I didn't have to space between words, lol ------ Amy Grace I have lived in Tekoa 18 years as of the 30 August. Realizing that I had lived in this community for that long and that I did not have any ties, emotional, or otherwise to the community really left me down in the dumps. I thought it was just so sad. Now, I haven't just hid at home all those years either. When my three daughters were in school, I participated in their school events, field trips, going to games, room mother, etc, etc. I was at one point a 4-H Sheep project leader and even the main club leader for many years. We went to all those functions and I put in 10 years at the county fair. So it wasn't that I don't know people, but I never connected with people that held the same values, principles, & ideas that I held. The first time I picked up one of MJ mag I was just enchanted. Not only was it eye candy, but it combineds so many things I liked and admired. Her views on organic, the strength of women, oh, I could just go on and on. I could say many things but I choose not to as this is a public forum and I would never want to hurt anyone's feelings intentionally. Suffice it say, I have lived many, many places in my lifetime. I went to 12 different schools as a child, my husband and I have move 30+ times in our marriage due to his work, but I have never lived in a community like this one. I think that is why y'all in this chapter are so dear to me. I feel like I've known you forever and you "get" me. Because to some degree we all have the same values I guess. I feel like I can be very serious or a little crazy, and y'all accept that, I once read that true friends accept the imperfections of their friends and still love them. That is what I find here. The fact that we are all united in our seed saving is just frosting on the cake. --- Okay, I'll quit being mushy. love y'all

I'm going to be really honest here. The only hesitation I had with the bumper sticker is that the hand looks so modern - like the perfectly manicured nails of a business woman, not a farmgirl. That gave me a minute's pause (probably less, actually) because I realized those are exactly the people we need to reach. The farmgirls already get it. The homeschooling moms already get it - or are on the verge. It's women who are going to make the difference. It's just our nature. We are the nurturers, whether it's children or food or just about anything. We love to feed it and we love to watch it grow.
It isn't any one big thing that got us to this point in our society. It's one little thing after another after another after another after another. Each little thing had good aspects, I'm sure. But as I've said before (and probably will again and again until you tell me to shut up - and even then I'll probably keep on going) it's about counting the cost, looking at both sides of the coin, so to speak. There's a positive and negative consequence to everything. Saying "hello" to a new opportunity means saying "goodbye" to life as we knew it. That's why change is so exciting and scary at the same time.
Many of the young women today just assume that life as they know it is life as it always was. I was young once. I thought that way. When I was little I thought television and telephones had always been around. Of course, my parents watched TV shows and talked endlessly on the phone to their friends when they were young. I mean, they weren't really born in the stone age, even though it might have seemed that way at times. Children born in the last two decades look at computers the way I looked at television. "How did you ever make it without the internet?"
So back to the bumper sticker. The working women of today are the women we need to reach. That hand with the manicured nails and tailored blouse IS the hand that holds the future. And we're the well-worn farmgirl hand reaching out to show them the way.

Thanks, TS. It would probably sound better if I took more time to think it through but then it might never get out here on the forum. So, for better or worse, I just splat my feelings all over the place. It speaks well of the mavens that I feel comfortable enough to do that. I guess that's why I love you all so much.

Karen~Very well said. We do need to help people realize what is really happening. I know when I was younger I didn't have a clue. I look back now and think if only I had known.
Tina~I love the bumper sticker.
Teresa Sue~I'm glad to hear you feel better. I loved your story.
I'm off to go order my SSE catalog.

I find if I think on something too much, I end up censoring myself and don't let the wholeness of the thought emerge. Afraid of critisism, I guess.

Hi Karen- I like how you processed through that, and I like your conclusion. I also am reminded of the article in MaryJane's first book (I think, sometimes I lose track) anyway, the article is about how even as a hard working farmer, she goes and gets her nails done. (And she does! She has gorgeous nails!) So while I don't have nails because I never did get used to long nails, I think it is do-able to have nice hands and be a hard working farmer too. :D

Well, Mavens, I've got to go weedeat at the cemetery, go to a cemetery commitee mtg, and go get my eyebrows waxed, hehe, not nails but I like it. I want to have nice nails, I keep saying I need to go back to the same book Alee was refering too and find the brand of nail polish that isn't toxic that MJ recommends. We should all go to the BBB with bright red nails, yea!
