Oh you lucky thing! To be planting taters. I have already bought my seed taters and they will not get in the groung for at least a few more weeks. It's so wet here. I went out and planted my 2 grape vines and there is water standing in the holes a foot deep. Then I moved an apple tree over to another spot and water in that hole, too. I hope the tree will be ok. It's onlt about 7' tall so far, but too close to some cedar trees. So now we have 3 pear and 5 apple trees and a huge strawberry bed and grape vines all down at the bottom of the garden. The strawberries are all full of flowers, too! And the apple trees are budding. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Clothes blowing in the breeze on the clothes line. Can't get any better than this.

My Apricot tree is budding and the rhubarb and Strawberries are looking awesome. I also planted Huckleberries and blueberries...I have Lettuce in the cold frame and onions in the garden. My Best Friend found me some double yellow hollyhock seed so I am planting them inside as well as my sugar peas...Oh and the raspberries I planted last year look awesome... But, boy I wish it would warm up....

Marcy , I just got the rhubarb seeds! Thanks so much. Now what do I do? I have never grown it before so I really have no idea. Do I start in seed cups?

I posted pictures on my blog of my seedlings. They are growing so well. We are all amazed. Soon I will be putting them in the greenhouse and then into the ground. YEAH!!
This is my first time growing from seed and I hope they continue to grow this well. I really tried to follow everything from The Seed Savers Handbook and it works!!!! It's a great book!!!!!

Ruth, I need to ask "what is the Seed Savers Handbook?" I did'nt see that on their site or I'm just not looking in the right place. I purchased seeds from SSE and I'd be interested in this book. Thank you

Kelley, got the seeds the other day just have had time to get online. Can't wait to get them growing!! Been busy getting things ready for Dawn's Spring Fling. Have made tons of aprons and beeswax tealights. Between getting the garden ready, chickens and sewing, I barely have to time go to work!! Well, guess what----it's time to get ready for work. Today is my late shift. I truly dislike it. I won't get home until 10 tonight and that doesn't leave me any time to garden or sew. DARN IT!!
hugs,

I hear you Lora - I have had to run errands everyday after work for 2 1/2 weeks and I'm tired, don't have the oomph to get anything done. But!! Sunday I started my tomatoes and peppers in flats and about half the tomatoes are up already!!!!!! Woohoo - I don't care that it snowed 5 inches last night, it's gonna be spring someday and I'm gonna have 55 tomato plants Amy Grace

Had some interesting stuff going on here. Still rarely seeing the hubby (not by choice, unless you count him keeping his job a choice). Snow on April 1st, no fooling there though.
Today we had a nice, sunny day with a high of almost 60*F! That's so freakin' rare. And I know it's going to snow again. Just the way it is here. So, today we cleaned up a few of the trellises left out there. Had the 5yo pick up rocks so I have a project for the kids to do (paint the rocks red) and so we can see if it works on the birds this year. I harvested the rest of my over-wintered carrots - a good bucket full, so maybe 5-6lbs? I have *got* to get myself a produce scale, that's all there is to it. Watered the onion seeds I threw in the dirt, and thought about watering my winter-sown goodies. Eh. Maybe tomorrow. Then, need to get rid of the vole, go pet my garlic shoots, and get the rest of the garden ready for hubby to till if it truly does stay dry the next few days. I might get my cool-season crops in on time this year, how trippy!
Now, to get the shed painted so I can transplant the blackberry canes, trim the apple trees, plant the other fruit trees, and on and on. I think I'm a glutton for punishment. I'd be in big trouble if I had more land, I swear.

Amy Grace~yes I did get the book. I emailed you. I guess it's lost in cyber space. I absolutely love it. Thank you so much.
I transplanted some of my seedlings this weekend. They are all in the greenhouse now~ The MJF mag greenhouse. They have done well and I hope they continue to do well in there.
All of my seeds from Seed Savers germinated quickly. They look great.
Lanna~nice to hear from you.

Awesome Ruth - I'm so glad to hear you like it!! And that you tried the MJF greenhouse - I would like to but not this year, maybe in the fall. My tomato and pepper starts are looking good, although the tomatoes are a little leggy, I'm wondering if when I transplant into larger seedling containers I can do the same trick as when I plant them outside and bury the leggy part - does anyone know??? really well although nothing is in the ground as of yet. Here in Ohio we take our time.... actually we can't be sure nothing will freeze until; at least Mothers day. But our growing season could very well extend into early November with the temps being mild until then. But so far I've over 100 plastic kegger cups in my dining room with seedlings growing. I think I'm the only one doing plants for the Spring Fling, so I want to make sure that I have enough to sell as that is the whole point of the sale.... I've got the small garden plowed, it just needs to be raked over real good. The big garden still needs the plow to break up the clumps and then once dry, we'll hook the disk to the tractor and go over it once or twice with that. Jerry bought me a planter (the kind you fill with seed and walk behind) for Easter. It has about 6 different sized plates for the seed to fall through....that's sure gonna beat bending over and dropping seed by hand! It even has a row spacer attached to it so I will have perfectly spaced rows.
A neat thing happened yesterday. I had a guy drive into the farm after seeing one of my Spring Fling signs. He wanted to talk heirlooms with me and he soaked in the "word" like a sponge! He wants to buy my produce and take it into Cleveland to sell. I'm really excited! This is a whole new avenue for me and the market isn't even open yet! I've had a couple calls regarding the Fling and so far it all is looking good. I'm hopig to post pics on my blog this week!

Hi Ruth, It (the back yard green house) was in the Aug/Sept 08 issue * the one with MaryJane, Meg and Stella all in White* on pages 102/103. It is really a darling plan. Glad everyone is doing good...
My lettuce is doing awesome in the cold frame...and My onions look great. I planted 50 strawberry plants, some huckleberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries. ( I already have grapes/and I ordered a gooseberry). I have peas started indoors, and yellow hollyhocks. I am with Alee.. I think I will wait until after mom's day to get serious as the weather has been so unpredictable....
My cherry plum tree is in bloom as is my apricot tree..
