Post #2 I am a licensed esthetician. At convention this weekend I attended a seminar that was about "inner beauty". Basically without getting all scientific, skin is our largest organ. Its breathes, it absorbs, detoxes, regulates temp and protects us from elements. People are having a lot of skin problems due to the fact that they are not getting the nutrients their bodies need inorder to have proper organ function. The speaker talked a lot about HFCS, and chemical laden foods. I was soooooooo glad to have chosed that seminar. I really didnt learn anything new, but the awareness that went out to 100 some cosmotologists/barbers/estheticians was amazing. There was a lot of talk about raw foods and its benefits on skin....really good stuff!

oooh, I love that idea Rene. It's funny you should think of that because I had something like that forming up in my head, but it wasn't quite gelled enough for me to articulate it! As I am the official Mavens' Badgebagder can I help you in any way? If so let me know. If we can't join the SSE as a group, maybe as a group we could pick up some extra copies, even if they are used, just to loan out? Man I'll be glad when we get all these details worked out!LOL OF COURSE WE MISS YOU KAREN! AND where is our fearless leader, Dawn. We have to have all our Mavens thoughts in the "pool of power" so they can fermet properly, hahaa

Again, it was worth having fun at Dawn's expense because to know I was missed put a HUGE smile on my face. Now to have fun at Annika's expense, "Tanks" girls, I ree-wy appreciate it! (And don't you dare go back and edit that,Annika - it's too cute!)
I knew there'd be a bunch of posts while I was playing catch up. Now I have to play catch up again........
Dawn, for some of us, our goal is life is to make you laugh so hard..........well, let's just say, I can die a happy woman now. And I'll have to go online to find that Heirloom Farm magazine. It sounds perfect for our group. Hold on......I'll do that now......be back in a minute.........or two (dial-up and all, it's a pain...)
Rene, I love, love, love the idea of Maven School! I think that will help us be organized (something I always need help with) and informed so we're really - oops! ree-wy - prepared to rock the world. Wait, didja hear that? Just a soft rustle but I think it's the winds of change coming............

Post #3 Thank you Mavens for exciting the warm welcome to the newbies. I have the feeling a few more will be joining in. I think we should have a solid mission statement and then a small blurb about what our personal purpose is with this chapter. Is everone okay with that? Example: "It is the sole purpose of MJ's HM's to preserve the integrity and blah blah....." Dawn McKinney MJHM Queen or Annika MJHM Librarian.... I am so glad that you all like the idea of "jobs" I sweated that for a few days in the beginning..... AND! the recipe suggestion is awesome. Lets submit recipes and take a vote on them!

Sorry about the tardy post, it's hard to talk on the phone and work up a reply for this thread before there are more replies posted, haha I was thinking we could put our Sisterhood badge on the front right side of our jackets and on one sleeve we could put whatever chapter badges we have and on the back we could put the badges we earned. Any other suggestions. I thought about making them removable and have a pin on the back, but I'm afraid I might lose them.

Okay, this is what I've found:
Heirloom Farm magazine is only showing up as an e-bay option. Anyone who wants to try to track more info on this mag down, go for it.
The Heirloom Gardener is "a quarterly publication all about heirloom gardening, small farms and organic methods" www.theheirloomgardener.com
And I clicked on the Hobby Farms magazine link http://www.hobbyfarms.com/crops-and-gardening/heirloom-tomatoes-growing-selling.aspx to find out about what I thought was a book on heirloom gardening and they have a page filled with heirloom info. Didn't have time to check out any links from there. And there may actually be a book - oh my goodness! I scrolled down to see if I could find it further on the page and there's MORE info and a "Want to Know More" box directing you to a link to "Popular Farming: Heirloom Farm, from the editors of Hobby Farms magazine. In this fact-filled issue, you can discover companion planting, learn how to start and save seeds, cook with heirlooms and more. Want to go organic? Pick up a copy of Popular Farming: Organic Farm to learn all about how to grow organic."
Okay, I gotta stop here, mavens, as I need to run to Whole Foods. Making healthy stuff for hubby to take to food day at work Wednesday. It's good timing as I was about to get sucked into the HMV (Heirloom Maven Vortex).

TS: Okay, thats a neat idea..... I personally decided to do this. I will only have the beginner badge on all of them (even thought on some I've earned intermediate or expert). My reason is this; I never want to be so good at anything that there isnt room for improvement. So as long as I see myself as a beginner, I'll always have something more to learn..... I am going to "wonder under" mine and iron them on like patches. I picked up a neat denim bag at flea market and thought it'd be cool to have my patches on that.... I will decorate that for more junkin! What about the Sisterhood badge on the right sleeve and the Chapter on the left sleeve with all earned on the back? Or is that what you meant and I'm just thick?

Umm... no. Its from the editors of Hobby farms Magazine. Popular Farming Series Volume 7. I was at tractor Supply for a "country fix " and saw it there and grabbed it up. try www.hobbyfarmhome.com. Published by Bowtie Magazines. Does anyone mind if I work on the brochure this week? Just a rough draft? Also, I think we need a link/blurb about Maryjanes farm on the blog. We can get other peoples attention that way too....

Yea, I didn't think about the washing part, duh, I think I will go with the felt too. Do you know a place to get good wool felt, not that icky poly stuff? I guess sometimes it might be too hot to wear a jean jacket too. Hey we could pin them on an apron and wear them when it's hot,lol Well girls it's rained a lot here and I can't get anything done at the cemetery today so I need to dig in and get some stuff done here at the house cause I'm going to be gone the next two weekends. It's supposed to freeze here tonight so I need to go see if any of my heirloom tomatoes and peppers have anything I can bring in so I can save some seed. I also have to go to the post office and mail my yoyos that I'm doing for an exchange. I'll check in later this afternoon and see what's fermenting. I'm even going to turn my computer OFF so I don't get sucked back into the HMV. Did I tell y'all how wonderful you are? I am so pleased to be part of this chapter and getting to know all of you is such an honor. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Annika- that is a neat idea. You could always buy those pin closures and sew them to the back of the reinforced badge. That way they would still lay flat and you could unpin them before washing and you wouldn't have to worry about a badge falling off somewhere.
