Rene' ~ we are having lots and lots of snow. And to think I was so ready for Springtime. So here I sit dreaming of warmer weather and planting time. Well, I'll just have to settle for indoor jobs being done right now. It is snowing and blowing and 22 degrees here at the moment.

Good morning Mavens! Back from roadtrip/adventure seeing the boyfriend off to California. *yawn* Left LA yesterday it was so hot I was getting sunburned in the car - flew in to Tulsa and it was 28 degrees! Waaah!
So I hear ya on the snow.
It was a fantastic trip. Saw a whole lot of Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and some of California. (Sorry Kelley, it was dark when we went through Texas - but it was the panhandle anyway - not too much to see)
Will catch up more later. Right now trying to hold my head up and look awake at work. Nothiing sprouted when i was gone but it's only been 5 days :D
Teresa Sue I got my pumpkin seeds from you! Thank you! My seeds from Baker Creek also arrived so i will get yours in the mail tomorrow.
Safe travels for Amy Grace!

have been in the middle of cleaning up the garage/stacking bins and boxes neater, and sorting out supplies/tossing what will not be moved and organizing what will/removing any cobwebs/sweeping,pushing boxes and bins and furniture into neat organized piles, etc.etc...when I was thinking of getting rid of a couple of those stacking plastic shelving units..but then I thought..oh gosh no!they can be easily converted to seed starting shelving with small hanging grow lights/flourescent lights attached with chain above each shelf..so...I'll wash those babies down and take them apart and away they'll go with us to a new place.And..at least one of them will have a repurposed life. So..in case you too have several of those plastic shelving units that you were thinking of tossing out...convert those babies to a grow light/seed starting shelves. -------------------------------- hope everyone is having a good day.

HI girls, home early today... bent over to get into my file cabinet at work and couldn't straighten back up! I look like a question mark.... haha... on my way home I was listening to 80's music and I've got the song: "I always feel like somebody's watching me.... and I can't no privacy...wooooowhoohooo". I'm 'cracking myself up'(chicken joke there).... I can't remember who sings it, but I remember the video.... this person walking around in a trench coat always looking over their shoulder. I'm glad that my life isn't like that... where you have to watch what you say or do.... that song reminds me so much of ninth grade... anyhoo.... I'm rambling. My little pea plants are soooo cute! They are developing little curly cues on them. I think I need to try some cabbage and more purple cosmo carrots too, I have a couple, but they aren't doing so hot. I lost all but 2 of my tomatoes. So I think I'm going to invest in some stared plants just in case I kill of this seed off.
Marcy Jo: Did you have a nice birthday? I have fallen off the birthday wagon in a big way. I seriously thought I could keep up....hmmmm. Nope.
Ruth's birthday is up next. I get so many compliments on my owlie hat. I call it my Whoo-tie Hat. Well, its better than hootchie mama hat. Speaking of hootchie mama's, my kid didn't get the modeling job with FarmGirl Brand apparrel. But it was good for her to try and get the experience. I may post some pics on my blog. She photograph's really well...just like her mama..... Well, its not that I photograph well... I'm a camera hog! Shy, I'm not. Quiet and Meek? no way... I'm more like Kuzma in the Emperor's New Groove...."BOOM BABY!"
So what'cha'll been into today?

No, I did. So far. Kids are doing their tag-teaming me thing. It's 3:30 here, and if I'm lucky I might go and get my shower done. Remind me later to post my garden layouts - I used growveg.com to make a pretty, pretty layout of it all.
Oh, and hubby got Reliance Peach and Red Gold Nectarine trees at Costco the other day. Price was right.

Hi! Dawn~I called you at work today. I have some questions about ordering chicks. I'll try again tomorrow. I was wondering what exactly I needed to order to get started and about how much that would cost. I also had a question about shipping prices. I hope your back feels better soon.
Kelley~I love bleeding hearts, too. I haven't gotten your package yet. I'll send it back as soon as I get it.
Amanda~glad you're back. Did you get good pictures of route 66 to share?
Tina~that's a good idea.

I'm having a QMD moment. This is going to be my last post of the night and then I'm going to forget about the past week. I am not a person that will "sit" on something and let it fester until it eats me alive. I shoot from the hip.
Please note these are MY thoughts, feelings and opinions. NONE of which were formed from other views. I think this thread has gone on long enough. We use this thread to talk, to visit, to cheer, and to shoulder-while that's all well and good, I think we've veered away from where it all started. Things have gotten way too personal. Feelings have been hurt and members are not posting. This isn't good.
I really think the DOE needs to be about saving/swapping heirlooms. If you wanna talk turkey, then go to the Barnyard Buddy forum, if it's herbs, then there's a forum for that too. As I write this, I really think we should be discussing heirlooms on the gardening thread. In no way am I trying to disband the Mavens, and as far as I'm concerned, if you wanna post here, knock yourself out. But at 325 pages, I bet only half are heirloom dedicated. I, for one, will not be talking about anything other than my task at hand on this thread. As a matter of fact, whatever I need to say will be stated in the henhouse where it should be.
I know that there are emails floating around. I know that there are opinions about me, code words, and alliances forming. I am not in high school and havent been for nigh on 25 years now. I will not stoop to that level. I'ts immature and rude. It's also not very Christian-like although in no way shape or form am I pushing my beliefs on anyone. It puts other people in positions they do not want to be in. If I'm doing poorly as a leader, then I will farmgirl up, and resign, or continue on and deal with it. If someone is not being straight and honest with me, then they need to put their farmgirl bloomers on and deal with it or talk to me via phone, email or right here in the open. I will not have my convo's "code worded" back to others. I will not walk on eggshells. If all this makes me a bad farm girl, then I'm a bad farmgirl... My whole purpose when I was nominated was just to plant heirlooms, create a simple seed savings, and learn from some of the best teachers this connection has to offer. But, as of yesterday, it went too far.
If someone would like to be Queen Maven, I'm ready to hand over the royal trowell. Do I like what I do as a Maven? You bet! Its exhausting but I know in my heart I'm tired for a greater purpose. I have given this role 110% since being nominated by Rene' on 9/11. If there were issues about my job,or my character all those months ago, they should've been addressed asap. At this point, I'm not even sure what the issues with me really are.
I know that some of you newbies are gonna read this and think...."pyscho...." That's fine. I've got big shoulders. I'm so sorry that some of you were/have been caught in the middle of this 'something'. All I want is for us to be adults and make adult choices. All I want is for us to save seed and have fun doing it.
So there's my rant. I'm off my soapbox. To the ones, that started this journey with me, I love you so much. Some of you that I talk to daily, weekly, you are like family to me. At anytime I know I can pick up the phone and just gab away like family do. I will be now retreating to my roost. I will find comfort there with the rest of my flock. Tomorrow I may lay an egg.... I may not. You will always find me in the coop.
BAWK!

for those that tried the live chat this evening..my sincere apologies..the ning site did an upgrade on their chat feature and I was unaware of it until this evening..and finally my daughter figured out that we had to go back into the site on our end and "flip" the chat feature switch back on...so..it should all be fine for chatting again now..but this time the chat feature is found at the bottom of the member page like a facebook chat feature. so..come on by next Monday to garden chat if you'd like. ------------------- back to talking about heirlooms..if any of you would be interested in swapping out some heirloom flower seeds in exchange for a few heirloom vegetable seed please let me know. I'm currently looking for old fashioned flowers. Are any of you growing varieties other than the outhouse hollyhock and nasturtiums?I recently found some Antique Flemish Peony Poppies, and a giant cockscomb variety..but was wondering if any of you gals have any other varieties you'll be growing? ------------

I'm going to try some hollyhocks. I just want to create a wild, over run cottagey look. I have a concrete slab at the back of my house that I want to convert into some kind of outdoor living area by SF. I'm hoping to start stock and flowers this weekend.

Sorry Kelley, I have weeded too much morning glory from numerous gardens over the years to ever plant the stuff! :^)

I take some morning glory stuff.. The more it climbs the less I have to plant...hehee... I'll also trade for some mammoth sunflowers. I'm still collecting zinnias. I have so much stuff I wouldn't know where to start posting it. But I will run upstairs and start looking.

Hey Hey everyone!! Sorry haven't been around for awhile. Crazy stuff - you know how it is.
Anyway, hubby and I are ordering some seeds from each of 4 places. We are of the opinion that ordering from more than one place will help keep the dream alive. I was also able to join SSE and the flower one too.
I have started some heirloom thyme and lavender - (I think I mentioned that way back) but they have both sprouted and seem to be doing ok right now.
We will also be getting a "nuc" of bees the first or second week of May. Some of you may remember that hubby wanted to start bee keeping. A "neighbor" is going to sell him a colony. This neighbor lives just 2 miles from us and we buy our honey from him.
Hubby is also going to build raised beds for our gardens. Thought it might be easier for me with my bad knees and all.
Dawn - love you, man!!!!!! Whatever is going on. I have enjoyed "meeting" new people and being able to vent when I needed to knowing that I would receive much needed support. I am truly sorry that this will no longer be the case on this thread. I have very limited time to spend on the computer so I won't be posting except for gardening stuff. I would hate to offend anyone - and like my friend, Dawn, I also shoot from the hip. If I have offended anyone - so sorry, but get over it.
I will be at the Spring Fling as promised. I won't break a promise. Dawn, you have my complete unwaivering support. I am waiting for my "guy" to give me an answering about the tees. He also runs a parking lot sweeping business and has been dealing with the fact that Tire Barn didn't put his back wheels on properly and while driving down the interstate they fell off. No one was hurt, but he's a bit busy with insurance and repairs. Anyhoo.... I will get your answer for your asap.
Back to gardening - I have ordered a "children's garden" collection for my son. I am hoping it will get him to eat more veggies.
Love and hugs,
Lora #358
