Teresa Sue - I just got the Martha Stewart Gardening too!! I think I posted before that her gardening book of 1991 is actually pretty good.
Good luck with the grandbaby - I get worn down everytime ours is here for an overnight, let alone multiples, how can someone so little cause you to burn so much energy.
And I've never started lettuce or peas either, just straight in the ground!!

Rita - Welcome, and Amber - you too, don't know if I said hello before!!
Like I said a couple minutes ago it has been a lousy week at work. I'm trying to get everything ready so I can actually take a vacation and the more I do the more it is clear to me that I don't just run the department, I am the department because my crew is just self-destructing this week:( Oh, well, I'm still going, wouldn't miss meeting Corinne for anything, not to mention the whole Paris thing:)
I am making my list of what seeds I need to start when tomorrow - I hope - so when I get back I know what I need to be doing. Other than that I am not reading garden books right now, all my reading material seems to have a French theme for some reason.
I'm hoping you all are happy and healthy for the most part - I have missed checking in.
Hope to talk to y'all soon

hi girls. quiet and snowy sunday here in Ohio. I am busy making seed packets for Spring Fling. I know that I have more than enough to share to I'm stmping a counting. Nothing else to do today that's for sure.

Kelley: your a riot! although you DO give me a run for my money in the gabbing department!! haha! I havent laughed that hard in months. My cheeks still hurt.....

Karen: you have a farmgirl hat waiting here in Ohio with your basket protector. To everyone that I'm supposed to mail stuff out to that's coming to OH in May.... ya'll can wait for it.

I was hoping the weather would break a little so that I could clean out the market. Perhaps nxt week.

Oh yeah, AG: thanks for the card! How appropriate! Yeah, I NEVER look that innocent!

KEll: I opened those seeds when I was on the phone with you and STILL forgot to thank you. Still looking for a camper.

Okay, back to the crafting room. Have a nice sunday.

Corrine~thanks for sharing that site. I have to take some time to read that. Great information.

Rene~I got my package!! Thank you!! Thanks for the great site, too. Can't wait to have some time to read up.

Welcome~Gail!!

Hi girls!

Welcome Gail, Rita!

I have been slaving away cleaning out my garage (there are no words for the filth that accumulates in there) and getting the BF ready for his move, so I haven't been around. Now I am going to try my best to sneak some time to get my seeds started already. (Me too Amy Grace...) Can't stand it any longer!!!!

Happy Sunday y'all.

Hi Girls It's me again - I did the new topic deal but not sure were it posted. (i'll get this figured out someday)

Anyway if it just floated out there somewhere - my question was about fire ants. Do Ya'll have a organic solution to getting rid of them? They trying to take over the green house and the veg. garden.

garage sale yesterday went o.k...we cleared out quite a bit..it wasn't near as busy as previous sales have been, but when it was over I loaded up the van and donated a van load of what remained.no more sales here at this house..that in and of itself is a huge relief, and a huge relief to have down sized a lot over the course of several months time.
-------------
Now starts the heavy duty deep cleaning/and the quick finishing up of the rest of things that need done here and realtors through and sign up..we are a little behind on things..but now starts some major deep cleaning around here and the hurrying to get things finally done.
------------
I did manage to get the 4 ft by 8 ft raised bed filled with contender variety of snap green bean(bush bean) seeds..my 2 smallest children helped me plant those.
Tomorrow we will plant some marigold seeds in a few areas, and maybe some heirloom yellow wax bean seeds somewhere.
----------
Loads to finish up... and quickly around here....so I probably won't be on here too much.
I will try my level best to remember chat nights though.
-------------
I am still working on my etsy garden shop/have some bean seeds to get listed. The shop is strictly heirlooms..in case you ever want to stop by and see what I have.
-----------
oh..and I did get the heirloom tomato seeds from the gal in Virginia..seems the family didn't have names for things after all... other than like Red X and yellow x..they did not actually name them anything..oh my! now I guess I can actually name them huh? they have been passed down for generations and generations in her family she said ,and they are not available commercially, but none of them even have names! does anyone know if I can actually "name" these tomatoes something?
------------
hope everyone is having a great weekend.
--------------
oh and Amanda...I feel your pain gal..my garage is piled with boxes and bins..but I did convince my hubby to get rid of a nearly 10 ft. workbench/counter top(yay!)..now I have to move all of the boxes and bins and stack them very neatly in the area where the huge work table used to be, and then clean the garage up a good bit, sweep, remove any cobwebs..that sorta thing..a chore in and of itself..ha.
It will get done though.
--------------
anyhow gals..have a great weekend. hugs.

Dawn~What's with the chicken madness? Is it crazy chickens or crazy people? LOL

Welcome Rita and Amber!! So many new mavens. We are really growing.

I am heading to the hen house to catch up. I've been doing alot of reading for starting seeds since this is my first time. Taking lots of notes too since they're library books. I'm thrilled with the Storey guide I picked up. Lots of great color photos and instructions.

It's a cold and windy one here today. I can't wait to be able to work outside.

Hi girls!

Tina, that's too funny, my BF just PUT his enormous workbench in my garage! But I am using it for a potting bench and to store all my tools, so it's actually an improvement.

Last week he enlarged the opening to my attic, this opening's in the garage and previously was so small you couldn't get a paper clip up there - so he made it big enough for a drop-down ladder (woohoo!) and nailed down a ton of flooring with reclaimed wood - I am PUMPED because all that crap that's been accumulating in the garage, now it lives in the attic. (Along with a bunch of his stuff, but that's fine, he did the work). Now we are hanging bikes and gardening equip and sporting goods, so this is fantastic. It's going to be infinitely less cluttered.

Speaking of the BF, I have to go help him pack (some more - yippee) so I will talk to all of y'all later. Everybody have a great Monday!

p.s. Chicken madness?

Oh yeah, has anybody read "Made from Scratch: Discovering the Pleasures of a Handmade Life?" It's pretty darn funny - her experiences trying to get started with chickens just cracked (har, har) me up.

Happy Monday Mavens!!! I just finished catching up wow!!!! I got my Bakers Creek seeds this morning!!! I might do some winter sowing but not sure yet!! I only recieved the things that can be started asap and will place another order for the rest in a few weeks! I went to Ft Wayne this morning oldest DS had to take his college placement test (cant believe he is that old) and went to Barnes and Noble..OMG!! They are so disorganized!! It took me forever to locate just a few books...cant stand that...I guess the payoff was using DS discount..I dont think its worth the hassle though!!!

Sunny here today but with all the errands I dont think I will get to enjoy much of it!!

Welcome Rita and Gail!!!!

Corinne I hope you made it to Paris ok and are beginning to settle in.

Spring Fling----I cant wait!!!!! I will rest up before looks like our work is cut out for us!!!

We had a happy note this weekend--we celebrated #3 sons 14th birthday! We now have 3 teenagers!!! I say that with pride and a big breath!!! And we had a sad note too--youngest DS new kitty passed away. He caught a cold friday and hung on til saturday night. It was so sad but also a good lesson for DS who is 10.

Well, my dears I am off to the henhouse!!! Tootles!!!

TS, I finally got my Baker Creek seeds, so I will send off some fortna white pumpkins. Might not happen till next week though!

None of the rest of this is gardening related ;-)

If y'all don't see me around, it's because I am going to be on the road with the BF on our big fat Rt 66 roadtrip till Sunday and then I fly back late Sunday night. I am going to be one tired chick on Monday. We're staying at the Blue Swallow in Tucumacari, NM (rt 66 roadside motel) then La Fonda in Santa Fe (schwanky historic hotel) then La Posada in Winslow, AZ (also a former Harvey House, very cool) and finishing up the trip at the WigWam motel in Rialto, Ca. They're the motel units shaped like teepees. They had the "Do it in a tee pee" sign for years. Classy joint ;-)

But the inspiration for the traffic cone motel in "Cars" anyway.

So we have some nice stops and some kitschy ones. It's going to be fun!

(That is, if we make it through loading the truck and loading the storage unit and all that's left to be done. Been packing all night, just plain pooped but gotta go to work.)

Rt 66 is perhaps slightly less important that, say, food... heirloom seeds... but it *is* part of our cultural history and deserves a little more support. I'm a sucker for the old stuff.

Have a great rest of the week Maven babes!

Good morning, mavens ~

Amanda, Route 66 IS an heirloom! Sounds like you have a fun trip planned. Enjoy every minute of it, takes lots of pictures, drink lots of water (although that will make for more stops ) and get lots of rest when you return. We'll be here waiting for the stories.

Today is errand day since tomorrow is hubby's day to drive for the van pool - not the van, just the carload of locals to get to the van pool.

TS ~ how was your GB weekend? And we may just need to farmgirl-up a T-shirt for ya..........! Can't have you going without

Yellojewl ~ spirit week, I rememeber those. Even thought I taught in the elementary school (music) it still carried over. What do you teach?

Chiqita ~ can't help with the fireants. I haven't had an experience with those, thank goodness!!!

Tina ~ congrats on a successful yard sale! Now on to bigger and better things.

Ruth ~ thanks for the seeds. I'm in no rush for the lavender. I haven't had any luck with potted lavender here so I thought I'd try some from seed. Not hoping for much in that department though - lavender doesn't seem to like our little plot of ground. Need more sand here. Can't wait to get the Wee Willies thought - the name cracks me up!

Kelley, it feels weird not reading your posts. Hope everything's okay in your corner of the world.

To the rest of the mavens at large, have a mavenly day.

God bless -

Hello from France dear Mavens, all went very well and we are slowly settling in. got the internet hooked up yesterday but have had lots of connecting troubles so we need to have it fix.
I was any way able to add on new Mavens, Gail and Rita, you surely have had the new list now.
I know I owe you some seeds, silver dollars for one but cannot remember whom I owe them and what other sort of seeds I promised to send. I live now right on top of the Post office, so drop me a mail and i will post them very soon.
I hope all is well for each of you, safe travelling for the ones who are going, happy time at home for the ones staying in, pleasant time at work for the rest. Have a great tuesday all.

Amy Grace--I didnt forget the apron mattern is McCalls 3979!! Sorry it took so long!!
