Sorry to be absent from the wonderful discussions. I have the horrible belly bug and just have wanted to stay in bed with a hot water bottle. AND we are still working on the roads out of here, so I've been having fun =) Should feel better soon. *hugs* Thank you all for thinking of me

Happy Happy New Years to all and hugs along too.

Rats! I'm getting ready to go totally offline for a few hours so hubby and I can try out a couple of new computer games I picked up yesterday. The network doesn't work when the firewall is up so there's no checking in for awhile. Oh well..................I can be surprised when we're done.

God bless -

Well then I wont spoil the surprise.... giggle!

Okay, my plate is full today, I am on the last 10 of 70 chicken aprons. I need to get the ham in the oven and the saurkraut started. I did a pot of brown beans last night so all I have to do is warm them up. I am so not happy about going back to work. I've been spoiled. I'm not looking forward to 13-15 hour days, rotten eggs popping in my face and that d@%! phone ringing CONSTANTLY! ou ever watch those telemarketing shows where they have tables of people on phones and they ring and ring and ring. Its like that but 10x worse. Last spring I had bladder infection after infection cuz there was literally no time to pee. But like Karen said.... moolah. And the hatchery is really good about bonuses and pay raises when its busy.

I already miss you guys and it (work) hasn't even started yet! Okay, I'm off to the kitchen.
TS: yes, you can order catalogs and not order chicks. I usually work 9-5. But am there another 3-5 hours after the phones lines shut off. I will have to make sure that I allow myself posting time at
night.

Talk with you all this weekend!

Dawn, are you making aprons with chickens on them or aprons for chickens? And if they are for the chickens - what the heck?
Rene sent an exciting surprise - thank you Rene, what fun!!
Corinne I just e-mailed you. I filled the whole thing out last night, hit send and found I had been disconnected, then couldn't get the page back so I gave myself a time-out rather than start swearing:) Went back and did it again when I was calmer.
More snow, heavy sigh, I want spring:(
Karen - I am hoping the double digging will give me some nice muscle tone in my arms and core section, lord knows I could use it:)
Talk to y'all soon

Corinne,
I have a Bosch mixer that I put it in, so the machine does the kneading for me. I just have to put it in the loaf pans and put it in the oven after rising.
I have my granddaughter here with me today. So we are watching some movies.

Thank you Corinne for the Maven's info, it's kinda nice to see everyone's preferences. I had totally overlooked that we were both Aquarius, that is problably why I feel such a rapport with you!
Rene' thank you for your little surprise, I won't spill the beans, just in case everyone hasn't had a chance to see it yet. You must have put an amazing amount of work into it, thanks again.
Dawn you had better post at night, I will miss you, I weely, weely weel.
Amy Grac, Annika, Rene' we all will definately have to get together as soon as the weather is better in the spring.
Karen my husbands weather idea is that all weather comes in 7 year stretches, so according to him we have five more winters of this, blah!
Okay, I off to do something?

HELP WANTED!

I am going to post this here first. I know that there are some Mavens out there that could use a little extra green in the pocket. Here's my offer, but first, my dilema:

These galdarn, dag burned chicken aprons are ticking me off like somethin fierce. I've been at it for over 4 hours and I have 8 more to go. The problem: I am not a seamstress like my mom..... WAHHHHHHH! I didn't get the sewie gene! WAHHHHHHH! I've ripped out more stitches than I've put in and I'm so over this! Boy did I bite off more than I could chew! So.....being the business minded person that I am, here's my evil plan.

I will buy the fabric, the elastic and make the patterns. I will pay the shipping. If any of you want to do this I will pay you piece work. I figure what takes me 5 weeks should take someone who's fairly good at this about 3 days. If there are 4 of you that want to do this for some extra cash, I have 4 sizes. I dont care if you alter the pattern, or if you use neon thread. I DO NOT WANT TO DO ANYMORE! But my boss likes the fact that an employee is making them. raspberries! How does $2 apiece sound? So if you did, lets say 50 of them, you get $100. Let me know your thoughts. If no one here wants to do this, I will post over on Stitching and Crafting. It's sporadic work, but easy money for someone that can sew! Now I need to figure out what I'm good at....

TS -DID you see over on one of the other threads that Dalyn (Queenof quitealot) is planning a "hoedown" at her place (Yakima) in early June? You all can come here (Prosser) Saturday ( for farmers market) and then we will head over to Dalyn's for a "camp out"....Of course then we all get to gather again in July.......Also thanks for your wisdom and advice as I was preparing the "surprise".

Glad you girls are enjoying the little email surprise...

Corinne~ thanks for the updated contact info...

I will find a place to post the "surprise" when Gabe get's back to the farm..... (Computer expert extraordinaire).... where we can just access it... until then... Email me!

Dawn... I can't believe I missed your phone call this AM....It is my last day with my oldest son as I have to have to have him back to the airport in Portland by 10:00 am Friday AM... (And won’t see him again for 9 months, as he heads off to Afghanistan)... So I guess I couldn’t peel myself from around his ankles long enough to answer the phone... But your message made my day...thanks!

As I look back onto 2008... and the Maven's, I couldn’t imagine NOT knowing you guys, we have 235 pages of "heart notes" between us, 3516 posts, 39,532 hits, 20 (around) committed mavens... and a whole new year to challenge and encourage one another.....................I CANT WAIT!

Rene' has Gabe been gone a lot? It seems like it really takes a long time to get a badge now after it is submitted. Is someone else doing that? Just curious.

I might be able to do the Yakima thing. It will depend on the weather, I promised my hubby I would help as much as possiable on our place in Idaho as long as I had the BBB weekend off. It's not just him though, I'm anxious to be living on our own land as he is.

Dawn for the same reason I can't commit to any extra projects, sorry :(

Finally a break and I can post!

Rene', what a wonderful job you (and your helpers) did on the curriculum! Thanks for all your hard work. Putting it out at the beginning of the year (new start time) and in time for garden planning is wonderful. Perfect timing, I'd say! Now to get started on that apron........

Dawn, I'd love to help you out but like TS, there's too much on my plate to commit to it and I don't want to let you down by not being able to complete the job. Let's just say I'm spending the first part of 2009 completing my swap commitments for 2008. On top of that, I really need to get this house in order before the garden season hits and that's a huge commitment in itself this year. You should be able to find some farmgirls that love to sew and would be grateful for the chance to earn a little "chicken feed" - the economy being what it is.

Hope the new year is getting off to a wonderful start for all of you wonderful mavens.

God bless -

Teresa Sue - once spring hits you should figure out some projects on your place that a farmgirl could help out with - I, for one, would love to have a work party. How soon do you think you will be able to move out there? Oh and boy do I hope your DH is wrong about the weather - seems like the indian in The Long Winter (Laura Ingalls Wilder) said it was a bad one every seven years, but then that doesn't explain last year and this year.
Dawn, I can't commit to sewing on a deadline either - makes me freak out. Sort of like having homework. When I was student teaching I was a wreck because there was always something else I should have been doing - it completely paralyzes me.
Annika - hope you feel better soon, this is lousy weather for not feeling well, especially when you have to plow/dig/shovel yourself out of the weather.

Really, its no problem. I just thought I'd throw it out there. As I finished the last apron, I swear I could smell my machine.....burning. It's just not worth it right now. I'd rather do what I WANT and not what I HAVE to..... no offense at all.... I will talk with Boss tomorrow and feel the situation out. Looking over my work, I'm almost embarressed to give it to him. But then again, I'm my own worst critic.

LOL, Amy Grace, there are so many project out on our place, it's almost raw land! We have put hundreds of dollars into the road, but it's still a dirt road and we have to have some more work done on it, plus gravel. We have had an excavator in and cleared the area for the orchard, the area where we thought we were going to build, but decided it is going to be where the raised garden beds will be, we were able to burn the most of the slash piles created from the excavating. We ONLY have to build our little cottage, barn, henhouse, shop, garden beds, green house, woodshed,............................................................and so on and so forth!

Okay. This is seriously my last post. I dont know if I'll get online tomorrow night or not. As much as I love chickens, the hatchery in "spring mode" is not fun. I already and dragging my feet on going. If I only could get a job somewhere else...... the past 3 months have been so much fun for me! I'm going to be in serious (see-wee-us) withdrawls. My heart is very heavy, it's like being called in for supper and a bath when your in the middle of a kick butt game of hide and seek with the neighbor kids. I wish I had something momentus to say, but I dont. See ya around clowns!

hey gals..had a lovely day today meeting up with Zan..who by the way..is a super sweet gal..loads of fun and very down to earth. We wound up sitting and chatting for 3 hrs today in the coffee shop! had a blast.
We managed to meet up because Zan's folks actually live a few miles away from me and she was here visiting with them on the Holidays! woohoo.
Small World isn't it?

Teresa,
As you know Sunny left the farm to pursue her full time art career..... And there has been a little transitioning at the farm... But with the holidays behind us and the New Year here, I totally suspect that things will get back to normal and the badges etc. will start flying out the door... So keep the submissions coming... Gabe is amazing and lots on his plate... But he is totally up for the duty...He, Denali, Carol, Katy also work so hard to meet the magazine deadlines... But, they will find their rhythm in the New Year...

Dawn,
I really hope you can get the help you need. I thought about it when I first read your post and then I thought again because I have lots going on right now and with the wrist and all wouldn't be able to commit to anything. I have a couple of swaps I need to fulfill. I sure hope you can find some help. I understand the frustrations even being a fairly decent seamstress. Hey I just realized that's a compound word Seam (STRESS). Wish I would have thought of that before. That explains all the seam ripping I do......LOL

I am hoping we can get a decent garden going this year though with the wedding coming up in June I'm not sure what it will be like.

Rene'~ I did not know Sunny left the farm. Hope things can settle down there again. I'm sure someone will step up to the plate to fill the spot. She was a gem at getting things done.
