Cheryl, it sounded productive, didn't it? Not getting as much done today as planned due to the excitement of having y'all on board. That's okay - the housework will always be there! I did manage to get one load of wash on the line tho'.

I have a huge pile here to go through..hope I can find the time to soon.

has anyone else gone through and catalogged/dated their seeds?
I did that this past weekend..it was rather amazing to see that I honestly don't need to go buying anything at all for a while..ha. I have loads of flower and veggie seed..now let's get me moved to a new house so that I can get everything planted!..ha
--------
love you gals..hope you all have a lovely week. my week is going to be crazy/busy..going through so much stuff here/cleaning out/making decisions on what to keep/what goes.

I have went through my seeds. They are all new. I do have some Detroit Dark Red Beet seed if anyone is interested. And, I will have more soon. Since I was the quickest with Tina's seed, I will share some of it as well.

How was the chat last night? I hope you all had fun. We got to watch my dog barf on the sofa.... and then hubby and dd followed suit. So guess who had to clean it all up??? Finally we settled down and watched Kung Fu Panda..... cartoons rock.

I hope you "new girls" like us enough to settle in for awhile. This thread is kinda like a big kitchen where we all come in, grab a drink and gab about life. DO check out our henhouse where we try to remain garden-y/heirloony...yes I said heir "looney".

I still have some Maven Seed left. I am in the process of trying to put together some new Maven Kits, complete with journals, etc. Everyone will hopefully receive theirs by Valentines Day. If you already have a journal, please use it for something else! My aim is to get one in all the newbies hands. Karen, I would like a short list of the links you deem imparative for new Mavens to know. Thank you.

Marcy, the holidays are over. I really need to bounce some ideas off you for Spring Fling. So I should be givng you a call this week. What I want to know from the rest of you is......
Concessions: I dont wnat "regular" fair food. I need easy ideas that can be cost efficient to make, and profitable to sell, and healthy to eat. I will be contacting The Farm to see if I can get a deal on anything.....
Crafts: I dont want to do a full fledged "craft" show, what about a trunk show? What should I charge? This would be free of charge to Mavens with the stipulation that you put a donation in our account.
Plants: Am I to plant/start all the plants for sale? I am still waiting to hear back from Baker Seed about getting seed displays.
Parking/Admission: should I charge? this is a ONE DAY EVENT. I think it should be a small charge to park, free to get in. Because I cant have people coming in and not buying anything... and this economy is unstable. I dont know where we will be at in May.
HELP: Whoever is coming is expected to help out. I will need at least 2 cashiers-maybe one. I will also need people to work parking, food and plant help. My dd is going to work, as well as my hubby. Whatever you sell needs your intials or a sticker on it so that you get your monies. I just want to get things on paper and ironed out.

Okay, enough of me. I am off to Columbus, again. It's time for Audrey to go home. I will be back tomorrow!

Tina, I have no seeds to catalog as we were organic last year but not heirloom and are going strictly heirloom from here on out.

I finished my first pass through the SSE catalog this morning. My greatest find was Bachelor's Buttons! I remember my grandmother having them in the garden and have been trying to find them for years. It looks like I'll be ordering more herbs and flowers than Robbie will vegetables but that's okay. I just really need to kick into an good exercise program so that I'm fit enough to dig up the beds come spring.

Dawn, will do on the links request. Great minds think alike! I was planning to go through the old posts, especially in the henhouse, after struggling to find the link to Cristine yesterday. Maybe Annika would be willing to work with me (please? pretty please?? pretty please with agave nectar on top???) and then you could sticky note them in the henhouse. Sorry you're saying goodbye to Audrey today but so so SO glad you had a wonderful visit and talk. Hope everyone's feeling better after the barfarama last night.

Annika, don't you dare bow out of chat night! That's the great thing about using the chat room. It may take awhile to type something long but you can just type a word or two in response and go with the flow. Don't cross it off your list without trying it. That was one of the topics last night - talking ourselves out of things before we even try it. We're mavens - we're adventurous - we're pioneers - go for it!!

Mavens, today is errand day so I'll be offline til later this afternoon. Dalyn, Cristine and Cheryl, hope you check in today. Sue, if you're looking in, howdy! All my loves, have a great one!

God bless -

Morning Mavens! I was all ready for chat time last night when everyone conspired against me! DH came home from work late, DS#1 was making cookies and had questions and DS#2 stole the internet when I wasn't looking! I just gave up and went to bed, had a headache anyway. Oh yes I have cataloged and re-organized my seeds. Put any old seeds or seeds that I am unsure about into a baggie and will spread them into the meadow area this spring for the wild life. I did this a few years ago and a few things popped up and the critters enjoyed them. I am still compiling my list and will start ordering in a few days. Half of my onions seeds from Bountiful gardens order came, some were back ordered and I cancled them. Lots of seed catalogs have arrived, most go into the recycle though. I do admit I keep a few on hand for the pictures. I may be back to check in later. I am busy in the kitchen today and a quick run into town. Have a great day!

I know I'm a little late answering, but...you want to know what I grew, not what I planted, right?! Because those are two different things! I planted alot, but what grew where cherry tomatoes, pear tomatoes, and zucchini. That's it. Like always. One year I ordered $60 worth of heirloom tomatoe starts- different varieties and watched my plants die one byone until two remained. I saved the seeds and dried them on a piece of brown paper sack, My husband through it saway, because he thought it was just a messy piece of trash. *U* This is how it goes with me and gardening. I believe the chickens snuck into the yard early mornings that year and ate my most of my ripe tomatoes anyway...
This year I want to try chard, tomatoes, cukes, and zucchini again. Stick with mostly safe and branch out a tiny bit- I plant alot every year believe it or not and am disappointed every year. Like I said I raise animals and children better than veggies.
On the west side of the mountains I grew a large variety of herbs in my yard year round and loved that! But here the weather is too extreme for that. Hot summers and frozen winters. I also have amazing wind all spring into early summer that literally shrivels the plants and no wind break. So this year I will stick with growing most things in my sunroom and just zucchini outside.

Dalyn - your gardening sounds like mine. I had one fantastic year, then two where my life conspired against me and I had no time. Then to top it off we had late freezes both years and my zucchini froze - once on June 27, then this last year on July 10. I was having a hard enough time just keeping the people in my family alive/happy/healthy so I gave up on the garden. I mean really, if you can't grow zucchini.....
This year I have great hopes and expectations though. I am starting now by organizing my house so it isn't a disaster area and I can actually function at garden time. I just did my pantry - what a mess.
Where in Washington are you? sounds like your weather is similar to ours here in Rosalia

Hi Mavens, sorry I didn't make it to chat last night, my internet just would not work. I don't know if it was the lousy weather or just all the kids home on Christmas vacation and they were hogging the connection, lol.
Last year I planted several heirloom tomatoes and peppers, some ediable pod peas(which did really well), onions, zucchini, and a new rhubarb plant. Like Amy Grace(we only live about 35 miles from each other) the frost nailed my garden. Only tomatoes that made it were the ones that were hiding under the pea vines. My zucchini was a dud. My new rhubarb did well. The onions so so, peppers were hit by frost, just not a good year for gardens in this area last summer.
I didn't save any seed from my tomatoes(Mortage lifter) because I got them from a company that is supplied by Monsanto and I just didn't trust that the seed was pure. Call me cynical,*shrug/grin*. I will only be ordering from Bakers Seeds and SSE from now on.
Gotta go pay bills, talk to you later.

Yea, I hate paying bills. I had to work at the cafe this morning and tomarrow morning. So I have today and tomarrow half days to get something done at home. Dh is off on Thur, so he'll be home then, then he goes back to work and maybe I can get something done at home, lol

Today seems to be the day for bills. One of my errands was to pay the personal property tax as it somehow got overlooked last pay day. First I went to the wrong building, then when I found the right building there was NO parking space. So I put that errand on hold and went to the post office. While I was addressing my envelope to be mailed, I heard someone talking about paying their taxes there, at the PO. When I asked about it she said a lot of people were coming in today because of the crowds at the tax office. So I got ready to write out the check and whoops! DH gave me the top section of the tax bill instead of the required bottom section. Back home to get the right paper, back to the post office and paid the taxes. Then to the neighboring town to pay our cell phone bill. Didn't know I could do that online. This all took the first two hours of my morning. Then I was ready to start my errands. Got as far as the pet store to pick up kitty litter, felt like I could go to sleep right there so headed back home. Here I am - ready for a nap and another day of running tomorrow.

Lilly, Henry Fields catalog came in the mail yesterday and is in the recycle bin today. At least it's useful for something.

Cheryl, no probs with the chat. It's a regular Monday night occurance unless everyone's busy - which happens once in a great while. How wonderful to have a spare bedroom to start your plants. Annika mentioned awhile back about starting hers in their extra bathroom. I mentioned that to my hubby and he thought it was a great idea so we're all on the same track. You just have more room for them!

Dalyn, too bad about your garden(s). The sunroom would be a great place for your plants though. I just saw a book in the SSE catalog about having an all-container garden. You might want to check it out.

Hey, Amy Grace, congrats on getting the pantry organized. Are you applying for the badge or do you have that one already? I almost "gutted" the kitchen yesterday. Thank goodness Dalyn and company came along and spared me!

Well, I think Monsanto has deep pockets to acomplish what they want, and if that means sending catalog after catalog to people, they will do it. I mean, most people look at you, like you're talking in Latin when you talk about heirloom seed vs Monsanto. They just are clueless and Monsanto likes it that way.
