Hi Mavens, I hope you all had a nice Christmas. DH and I just spent it relaxing. We are pretty much snowed in. You can see what I mean if you go to Tina's small town living magazine, I posted a picture of the old farmhouse, covered in snow. We have all our kids down on Christmas eve, because they want to be in their own homes with their children on Christmas day. We had a great time yesterday, ate way too much food and enjoyed each other's company. Today I've worked on badges and finished reading GARDENING WITH HEIRLOOM SEEDS by Lynn Coulter(our next book club selection) and then I cross referenced the varieties from the book with the SSE catalog. Dawn and Tina, looks like you made out okay! LOL Merry Christmas all, and to all a goodnight!

Good day after Christmas to my favorite mavens (that would be all of you).
Hope everyone had a wonderful day and took some time for a mental snapshot (thanks for the suggestions, Marcy). I didn't read that post until this morning but I have a couple of wonderful ones. We spent Christmas Eve at my BIL's. Our nephew is 4-1/2 this year. He was being a live wire so we were giving him animals to imitate. When we asked him to be a cat he came over in my lap, curled up and purred. It was so sweet. The best part was that later in the evening when he got tired he got back on my lap and was a cat again. I'm filing that memory away forever because there won't be many of those days anymore. Later when Jake and I were in his room he let me choose what I wanted to do so we read a couple of books, again with him curled up in my lap. Robbie came in after a bit, so Jake got up and had us close our eyes - for several minutes. When we opened them he was dressed in his Spiderman costume, complete with muscles! It was so cute!!!
Yesterday we got up early to get to BIL's to watch Jake open his presents but of course we were too late. But he did manage to save ours until we got there so that was fun. We got a weather clock (tells time, temp, humidity, etc.), a laser scissors (position it toward your endpoint and then press the button - it displays a straight laser line for cutting - pretty cool), and a digital picture frame with mp3 player fromt the in-laws. The coolest gifts were the ones to each other though. I got Robbie the 1961 edition of the Rodale Gardening book (which y'all know about already) and he "got" me (I ordered and wrapped it) the original 1974 edition of the Rodale Herb book. It is so-o-o-o-o cool!!! It includes crafts to make with the herbs including how to make soap!
Moving on through the day we went to church, came back for a quick snack and then took MIL and FIL to see Benjamin Button (excellent movie!!!) and out to eat (not good - took an hour to get our food). Then it was time to go home - without our presents because in the rush to get to the movies, we left them behind. The real killer is not having those books. Oh well, I guess that will help keep me on track to get the house back in shape. Then when Robbie picks up the presents after work Monday, we can settle in and hit it hard.
TS, sounds like you had a wonderful relaxing Christmas Day. Dawn and family had barbecue which sounded wonderful.
Know that I haven't really missed all of you. It was so busy the week or so before Christmas I forced myself not to post much in order to get things done. I promise to be a more in-touch maven in the future!
Love to all............'Mornin', Ralph.............'Night, Corinne............

Well, dear Mavens I am posting from my very own Christmas present. DH got me a notebook of my own. Yeah, no more using his or waitning in line to use the desktop. Still waiting on the jaw to heal up so I can start the rest fo the dental work and the typins is still going slow with the fractured wrist. The stuff I take to clear up the sinusitis seems to keep the pain at bay in my wrist and arm most of the time. Had to go with the stronger stuff yesterday though.
Had a real nice time with the grandkids. They came over in the morning and stayed till about 10 last night. We ate lots of food and too much candy(UGH!) but had a great time.
Everyone enjoyed their gifts and it was a nice day of family time. To me that's the most important.
Tina~ your retro stuff is really sweet.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day counting their blessings!

Good morning/evening Mavens, Well.....here we are Christmas is over. I have soooooo many projects I want to start on that it is ridiculous. I think today I am going to finish my Sister badge, I'm almost done with it, then I am going to finish our Maven badge design. I have the design, I just have to get it in the right proportions for the size it needs to be. I also need to balance my checkbook and pay some bills. Denise that is sooo cool you got a notebook. I was going to get a laptop when I got a new computer, but my daughter bought this pc for me for mother's day, and I could hardly be ungracious and say I wanted a laptop! LOL! Take care of that wrist and let it heal, cause that must be miserable with it banged up. Karen, you and Robbie got wonderful gifts! I love Rodale's books. I have some also. When we lived in Arizona we used to BBQ this time of year. There are only a few things I miss about Arizona, mesquite wood to BBQ with, fresh pecans and pistashios, and really, really good Mexican food. Dawn I'm just jealous about your BBQ, ours is buried under about 5 foot of snow. I hear DH up, I'll check in with you later.

Yeah....BBQ-ing on Christmas is weird. But hubby and FIL didn't want ham. They wanted steak. So we grilled steaks. Baked potatos and homemade applesauce.... it worked cuz we were all full.
I dont know about you all, but I am so glad Christmas is over. The hype, the travel, the food, its all just too much, and I have 2 more "christmas's" to go....... I am getting Audrey tomorrow and doing gifts with her, but she wants cheesebuger soup for dinner, thank goodness that's easy. Then we are having another holiday after New Year's in Columbus with my dad's side.... sigh.......
SOunds like everyone had a marvy time. Denise I do hope you get to feelin' better soon!
Like Teresa Suzie-Q, I have a ton of things on my plate today... I am full of ideas, and inspiration for the veggie stand.... I am counting down the days til I can open. I want to have an "unofficial" opening in April with the Grand Poo-Bah kick off the wknd of Spring Fling!
Everyone enjoy your snow! Its 50 degrees and rain here in tropical Ohio with temps expected in the mid SIXTIES tomorrow..... as Tina would say...."oi" I miss the days when it started snowing after Thanksgiving and didn't stop until St Patty's Day! Winter ain't winter anymore! We will get hit hard come Jan and Feb.....we always do. Much love!

I also wanted to add, that while I received several gifts dear to my heart (moniter, money). NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING compares to what I get from all of you. The phone calls, the homemade, albeit, silly gifts. I love them and they mean so much to me.
My Rosie the Rivetor ala Sock Monkey style.... its getting matted and framed. I have no idea whre it will be hung, but I LOVE THAT PIC!
My stained glass night light rooster..... plugged into the dining room right where I can see it everyday and think of you......
My special Christmas Day phone call from across the world... I have the message saved and I listen to it and resave it everyday.... Corrine, you sound really FRENCH! haha!
My trowel, and apron..... so much talent. So much glitter... I love BLING!
My recipe hints and garden gate magnet, and cards....all of you made my Christmas so meaningful, so FULL, and special......short bus special, but special.... you make this chapter, this gaggle of women an honor to lead!

Dawn I forgot to tell you, I personally like the vintage seed packages from Bakers Creek Seeds, but from a merchandising standpoint the retro ones scream "BUY ME", my two cents, LOL. I'm working on the badge.

hey Dawn..glad you liked my roosters/chickens.:0) somehow I knew the "chicken lady" would..ha. I've been collecting a few like that..and when we get moved I have some really nice plans for the look I want. It will scream retro when I'm done. In fact I have plans to decorate the new house with a very retro/fun/whimsy look to it.Hubby knows that I want one of those 1950's style dinettes with the chrome edging to them and chairs to match..but where to find that?? I don't know. I also want to find those neat bar stools with the step that folds up under them...in bright cheery red and yellow. That's the type of look I would like. that's the plan anyhow...as I have been collecting antique/retro for a while now.And now that my 4 yr. old can understand what is breakable and what isn't..I can bring more of my things like that from out of hiding in a new house. The kitchen..I want it to have white cabinetry and a jadeite greenish colored walls with red and white checkered curtains and red accents here and there..with the chickens/roosters displayed through out. -------------- I couldn't get the 2 above links to work for me..waaah! ------------ I dug through my 2 big book bins I had already stored in the garage... thinking I had seen that book for our upcoming book club discussion..but I guess it was one on my "to buy" list..and not one that I actually owned..darn! So..I will have to try and find it so I can add it to my book collection. --------------- Hope everyone is recuperating after the Holidays.:0) -------------- Have a great day gals!

I'm still here with frozen pipes and a broken hydrolic part to the snow plow and about to be snowed in again ....so, I'm gonna be here for a while. I feel so bad, that I didn't get cards off to every one. I'm truly sorry. Once I get out of here and can get to the post office, I will mail late holiday cards. I hope that you all know that you are dear to me. *HUGS*

Don't feel bad Annika - there is so much snow in our area it is ridiculous!! We are taking it kind of easy today, have to make a cake, do laundry, clean the house, make a salad - tomorrow we have 21 people here for DH's family christmas, we have the biggest house so it is always here. I hope the weather cooperates. Christmas eve we were up at 4 to go to work, came home after work (30 mile drive) to let the dog out - she ate 3 candy bars and an SOS pad for dessert while we were gone - drove back to town, went to dinner at mom's, then church, then home through the absolute worst driving conditions I have ever experienced, didn't get home till 11pm. Then Chrismas AM up early, open presents here, went to my Aunt and Uncle's in town for breakfast/presents then Mom and Dad's for more presents, then DH's folks for dinner, home late again. I am pooped - can't wait for Sunday!! I hope all of you had a fabulous day yesterday - thanks for being Mavens!! Amy Grace

Tina, my parents had a table that would've looked great in your kitchen. Red formica top with "stars", curved top (not rectangular), black formica apron with "stars", chrome trim and legs. I think they gave it away several years ago as it's not in the basement anymore and it's too big to be hiding down there! If I still had it it would be yours.
Annika, poor baby! Still snowed in with more to come. Is the larder still full enough to get you through? Don't give another thought to the cards - we all understand and know your heart, my dear. Your love comes through bright and clear every time you post.
Amy Grace, sounds like you've been on the treadmill for the last few days with rough weather to boot. Hang in there. Sunday is not far away.
I posted in the henhouse about a website I used to get our used books for Christmas. They do have some copies of our next book club selection. I know we try to order from SSE, Baker's Creek, etc. to support them but when money's tight, www.alibris.com would be a good one to try. I just checked and they have one copy for $10.95 and three for $11.45. And you'd be supporting recycling (although it isn't local!).

It's here! The SSE Harvest Edition was in the mail today with a note of apology. Apparently "a few hundred members got left out" when they printed the first mailing list. Oh well, it's here now and I'm so excited. Lillian, yours should be here any day now if it isn't in your mailbox already.
