I like the thought of the gal with the apron or the gentle hand and seed...I will let you all vote for it. I agree with Tina Michelle and everyone else who said Americans just need re-wired. Or detoxed. I stand strong in my beliefs here. I will continue to educate myself this winter and plan for a wonderful get together in Idaho next July. Karen: maybe we can catch a flight together out of St Louis and anyone else on the east coast? We have time to think/plan.
Everyone has a job, what am I doing? Am I letting ya'll work your tails off?
And I totally agree about us becoming fast friends...couldnt have asked for any better!

One more thing: I've been plagued with migraines, loss of balance, eye aura's, numbness in hands and blackouts for the past 6 months. I keep coming back to the same thing: what if its what I'm eating? My gut instinct tells me to go with it.

One more thing before the sun comes up. Seriously, its like 1 am here... I make jewelry, and my favorite thing is charm bracelets. I have pewter charms that encompass a sunflower, spade, pair of over-alls, shock of wheat, ladybugs and various other garden trinkets. I also have a lot of sewing charms like scissors, thread, quilt blocks etc. I have a nice collection of glass beads as well. If someone wants a Maven Charm bracelet, I will sell them at $10 and give 100% to the Maven Seed & Sisterhood fund. I think if you go to gypsycowgirlcreations.blogspot.com, you might find a really bad picture of an Autumn inspired charm bracelet. It just a thought.

Well, whatever is wrong with you, eating less chemicals and other genetically modified junk couldn't do any harm, right? So no harm done trying. We'll all work our patooties off while you're gone. I keep finding more must-have links. Ha! so we will have a mile long links page

I know that there is someone here in Moscow who does embroidery but we could check out Spokane too. It will be a thrill to have another patch now that I have a really cool jacket to put it on with my other soon to be achieved patches. We can decide on colours once we have a design. Wow! we are movin' right along. This is good, I needed change. When you ask the powers that be for a window of change and you get a blue bolt, you know it is important.

Actually the militant woman was humor, I know, but I already warned you'all about my humor.
The image would have to be very simplified to hand embroider. I don't do machine embroidery. If we have a lot of gals who don't do hand work or we could just offer this as an option, I could use pigma ink pens(special ink for fabric, commononly used in quilt making)and draw the badge out on some organic muslin or there is some bamboo fiber fabric out there too. I thought I'd have to do the GMO in circle with slash in the ink anyway, cause I'm not that good of an embroiderer.
You know, I was thinking about that design after I went to bed and I thought there was a lot of symbolism in it. The moon of course has been a womanly symbol for centuries, the old fashioned dress symbolizes the Heirloom, the apron of course is our symbol of power, and you'all know what that slashed circle means! Of course the seeds represent hope for the future.
Well girls, one more morning at the cafe, I'll check back after work before I go to the cemetery.

one more thing. I totally agree with what you said Amy Grace. Our farmers are not bad people they are just trying to make a living and trying to keep their farms from the bank. And yes, they are going to go on the defense if we try to force it down them. Especially the farmers that have had a farm in the family for generations. They think that is how they have always done their farming and it's tradition. Just because something has always been a certain way, doesn't mean it's the right way. So yes, a gentle hand is needed in what we are doing. I'm sorry if I upset anyone.

Good morning, mavens!

Amy Grace, it's hard for me to sleep sometimes wondering what's going on here so I can just imagine what it's like for you not getting to partcipate til after work. I'm thinkin' we should hold off on making any final group decisions for 24-48 hours just so's those who can only check in once a day or so have time to chime in. You know, to the rest of the world 48 hours is nothing - here it seems like forever!

Badge: I vote for the peasant-ish woman, leave off the GMO symbol. I think the badge will provoke enough interest so that when someone asks about it when can explain the issue in MaryJane fashion. I'm concerned that including the symbol will set some people off and they won't ask about it, or if they do, they'll just be defensive. I guess the real question for me as to whether to include the slashed GMO is "What would MaryJane do?"

I really like the idea of the sun (moon) in the background. To me it's a sun symbolizing a new day and a brighter future.

God bless -
Karen

Hi Teresa Sue! I really like your ideas. The only thing I think we need to consider is how small the badges need to be. I maybe wrong, but I think MaryJane expressed an preference that the badges be only the size of the merit badges and the Henrietta badge. So think about the size of your palm.

I think the sowing lady would be great with the sun or moon. But I think that will take up all of our space and I don't think any of us can embroider so small as to put the x out GMO on her hem.

Teresa Sue: I totally got the militant humor. I had a vision of sharp woman with a Hitler mustache....hehe!
Let me correct or straighten something out. I went to FARMER because he is an honest man, nd he ha helped us out when we really needed it. The farm where hubby works (2nd job) and I work has been very lenient with my "spells" and stuff so I just wanted his opinion. I am going to spend most of today looking through some of these links (it'll most certainly take more than a day...)
Amy Grace: I'm right there with you. Went to fair last night to watch the Combine Derby and all I could think about was the forum.... its awful. I find myself shutting down my computer only to have curiousity bugs the booger outta me and then I fire it back up...its an addiction for sure. Maybe today we will only save HALF the world's problems just so you can catch up tonight!! ;)
Okay, I have chores to do. Chickens need let out and strawberries are begging for a straw blanket for these colder nights. OH, anyone well versed in rhubarb? I have some rhubarb questions....

A Good Morning to All! I just wanted to say "Hi" and you all have so busy making this come together. Like I had mentioned earlier I will be going back and catching up this weekend, but I wanted to mention a few books.

Seed to Seed- by Suzanne Ashworth (I think someone already mentioned this but not sure)
Four Season Harvest by Eliot Coleman (this will be my winter reading)
The Garden Primer by (Barbara Damrosch)

As far as seed companies go I think all of the good ones have been mentioned. Except for maybe www.seedsofchange.com

I went out yesterday and found some bean pods that hadn't molded so I will have a few different beans to offer and I have some absolutly wonderful types of heirloom tomatos that I will be saving seeds from this year. Gotta run for now I have tomatos to start processing.

Annika,
I thought of you and your old apple tree.. My FIL has an old Pear Tree, nothing is sprayed or tended to really~ But we picked some pears and I made Pear Preserve. Thought I would post some pictures.

Dawn, I know what you mean. I'm always thinking of this also and I can't get off the computer!
Fire away with the rhubarb questions.
Alee I do understand about the size of the badges. My thought is we'll decide on the image and then I will get it down to size. One other way we could do it is I could draw them out with the permanent pigma ink and we could just "embellish" certain areas with embroidery.
I've also been thinking about the GMO badge and wondering if we should put it on-Karen I guess great minds think alike!
This is so awesome that we can hash all this out!
Once we get the design we want, I'll take it to a copy shop and have it shrunk and go from there. If the sun/moon and name fits, great, if not, we'll just have the woman seed sower. I thought it would be neat to use seed beads for the seed.
Oh and Dawn I would buy one of those bracelets.

Hi Rene-

When you go to Photobucket, you can click on the pictures then click "edit" there is an option to resize. "Medium" seems to work great for the forum. Hope that helps!

I think we are up to 15. Homespun and TabithaLenox want in too. they are both so sweet and will make great additions. I have been talking to them on other issues...
Geographically we are all either East, West or Central. So it'd be fun if you could plan mini gatherings with those in your area.
Okay: My Rhubarb has given me fits all summer. Last year I planted it and it took off like wildfire. This year I had flower stalks shoot up the center and I was told by a local nursery to cut them off. I did and soon after the plants started dying out. I still have some, but they are weak, and the leaves look terrible. Today I pulled out over a handful of yellow, limp stalks. Does the soil need amended? Should I give them straw blankets like I do my strawberries? It is very hard to find inof on Rhubarb online. Lots of recipes....no advice on how to care, plant etc.
Teresa: did you see the Farmgirl bracelets I have on my blog? They have several different charms, jeans, flower, wheat, ladybug etc. I tried to encompass everything a farmgirl is (nature-wise). Geez, if I put on all the charms that shouted 'farmgirl' we wouldnt be able to life our hands!!
BTW: chickens love these bracelets! I wear mine to the coop so that Fifi Le Rooste' can peck at it!
