Teresa Sue- That's fine! No problems! I figured that was probably what happened-

Dawn- we might have to trade for that red luster dish and some of the crystal! I want to move away from the "Poor College Kid Shabby" look. Which entails me starting to TOSS stuff that is really worn out. It has left gaps in our decorating that I would like to start filling in with some pretty farmgirl style!

Less than an hour before my self-imposed deadline, the newsletter is posted for y'all!

Good morning, mavens! I really miss all of you. And that includes you, Brenda!

Today I'll be wrapping, baking, card-writing (we hand them out at church) and attending a Christmas program at our church. I've heard it's really good.

I would write more but I've been sitting in this cold room for awhile now and my feet are nearly frozen. Yes, I am wearing shoes and socks. I need warm fuzzy boots!

God bless -

Good evening, my maven friends!!

It has snowed and snowed here. I think we have a little more than a foot of snow. I had to go to work today since last night they were asking people to not be on the roads. We were getting about 2 inches of snow an hour. Hubby took me to work today and I had to wait for the office to be plowed. When I went the parking lot was plowed but they hadn't cleaned anything else. I had to trudge through the snow and the front door wouldn't open. It was frozen and I had to go to the back door. When I got in I had to run to the alarm to turn it off and thought I was going to slip and break my neck. What a mess. After about 20 minutes of cleaning the man came to snowblow and clean the paths and steps.

I wanted to say hello to everyone. The monitor is having fits and jumping. I hope I can finish this post before it dies.

Dawn~What a nice thing to open your shop to our work. How sweet. Now I need to get very busy.
Teresa Sue~Glad you didn't lose too many ornaments.
Tina~Glad to hear you are feeling better.
Alee~I hope you enjoyed your day of baking.
Karen~Enjoy the Christmas program.

Annika, Corinne, Lora, Brenda and all the mavens~thinking of you.

I love having your Christmas cards on my wall. I think of you every time I look at them.
We are expecting more snow turned to ice tomorrow. It will be a day to stay home.

Blessings,
Ruth

Just a quick hello -

Another exciting day in the life of an MCI from ISP. We had a superload escort detail on Thursday. Was going from Ohio line on I-70 to Illinois line on I-70. Ha - ha ha ha ha ha

We had to sit a rest park in Ohio (Lewisburg area) and wait for the state hwy guys to come out an cut down some signs. The load was toooooo wide to fit thru. (20 ft wide, 100 ft long and 15 ft tall) Ok that's done. Next we had to stop at the scales in Indiana and wait for a little over an hour because of a crash farther ahead of us that had all lanes blocked. Ok that's done - on we roll. We get over to Indianapolis and are on 465 and need to get back onto 70. Yeah right. The bridge we are supposed to over turns out to only be 19feet 2 inches wide. The load is 20. Not going to fit. We had to BACK these monster party barges back down the ramp back on to 465. OMG. I was so cold and tired from directing traffic. I got really crabby too because I hadn't eaten all day. I yelled at one lady because her husband stopped a motorcoach on the interstate and she got out!!!!! She just insisted they needed to get on 70. I tried to be nice, but she wasn't listening to me. I started yelling at her and told her if she didn't get back in her vehicle and move it she was going to get a ticket. She stared at me, turned around and got back in the motorcoach. I think she realized her mistake. Ohhhhhhhhhhh. People make me so mad sometimes. After getting them back down the ramp, we started rolling again on 465 heading to US40 to turn around and come back to try to hit 70 from the other direction (no bridge). We were trying desperately to get it out of the area as we had a nasty storm coming in and didn't want to be trying to move these things. We had to park them 50 miles from the Illinois line. They have to sit until Monday due to the conditions in the area. So in a nutshell, a 6 hour escort detail took 13.5 hours. At least I got some OT. My rookie and I are still laughing about it.

I have decided to take the week of Christmas off from work.
Lillian, my sincerest apologies again - due to the late hour on Thursday and the ice on Friday, I wasn't able to make it to the post office. It will be done on Monday. I just hope you get it before Santa arrives. (sniff sniff - I am so behind)

We have to get a new bed now too. With all the rain/freezing rain, the roof started leaking again and this time low and behold - it just had to leak on my bed!!!!! Yuck Yuck Yuck. I will be sleeping on the couch for a while now.

Again - I am done venting.

I got my Baker's creek catalog today - so excited - when are we ordering? I want it all!!! ha ha

Love and hugs.
Lora

Good morning Mavens, goodnight to you Corinne!

TS~ Yes, work will slow down after Christmas. In fact I have 4 days off stsrting with Christmas day and then I only work the 30th and am off for 5 days. So it won't be to bad at all and I'll be able to catch up with you dear Mavens. Then we will start up with the Valentine's stuff as soon as Christmas is over.

I got my Baker's seed catalog a couple of weeks ago. I also received my Seed Savers Catalog and another one but I can't remember the name right now.

Dh and I are planning a time when we can look through them and also our square foot gardening book. I want to give that a try this year.

Hope everyone has a restful Sunday and is ready for this special Christmas day.

I did not get as much done in the way of handmade gifts this year. Hopefully I will plan ahead next year.
With the wedding plans in the works for June I imagine our Spring time will be a bit busy too!

Happy Winter Solstice Everyone!! I will be celebrating the fact that the days will be getting longer and the planting season won't be far away!! Hope everyone is doing ok in the horrible weather. I had to drive in the snow on friday and discovered that is something that I really hate and in my book that is such a strong word and I don't use it that often, but I think I am a warm climate girl at heart!

DH went out to get the mail yesterday (not a common occurance) and was slowly going through it making all sorts of noises (torture to me) and then asked if we knew a Dawn from Ohio? I was jumping up and down yelling it is my Maven friend. Of corse he proceeded to do that with the whole pile! I ended up with lots of maven cards yesterday and seeds that I had ordered too. Oh what a happy day! Thanks to Everyone, I really feel blessed! By the way Dawn I have 7 piercings in my ears and haven't worn earings for probably 3 years. About a week ago I decided that I was going to get back into wearing my earings and popped some earings in. Isn't that weird?

Lora- What a stressful job you have! I hope you have today off to relax.

Sound like everyone is ready for Chrismas. DH and I have to create certificates today. We are giving trees this year to his parents and his brother. They are both in the process of purchasing new homes.

Well DH is up so I had better give him some attention. Have a great day.

Well we finally got a little of the snow that the weather man has been talking about, but I was still surprised that it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. We are suppose to go to Portland Or today to retreive our oldest son from the airport, it is about 3 hours away, so we will see what the weather does. My 17 year old went out in the snow this Am at 3:00 to set up for goose hunting, I never sleep when he is out there, but he always seems to enjoy it.. He LOVES being out there, and has always been like that.My friend Terra and her hubby are fising guides and they do fly fishing; so they are going to give him lessons as one of the christmas gifts he will get. He received some vintage fly poles from a great Uncle and is eager to learn all about them. Well that is it from my little corner of the world this AM... Christmas will be here before we know it.

Good morning, mavens!!

It is snowing again here and predicted to turn to rain than ice. We are bundled up inside and praying for the best.

My dh got some very upsetting news on Friday before he left work. They sent out an email saying that in the new year there will be 900 jobs cut at the bank he works at. He works for Citizens Bank and has been with them for 16 years. We are a little concerned because I don't really work much. This is scary and I don't understand why they sent out this email before Christmas. How horrible. Everyone is worried. It just ruins your day and I have a knot in the pit of my stomach. Please say a prayer for us.

Lora~We have been considering moving to Indiana for some time now. Hubby had friends who lived in the Fishers area but he lost contact with them. If he loses his job we think that we will definitely be moving. Do you have any web sites you could give me for job hunting. Do you live anywhere near Fishers? Anything will be helpful. Imagine if we live close to each other. How fun!!

We don't have much planned for today. I am doing some laundry. We played a game of Monopoly and I need to make lunch. Hubby is outside now shoveling before the rain comes and makes a big mess.

I can't believe that Christmas if 4 days away.

Teresa Sue~Thank you so much. This monitor is still hanging in there but bad. It's always the worst for me.

Blessings,
Ruth

Good sunday to ya'll Mavens, it is so good to have news form your corners of the world.
You had me dreaming of snow and cookies by reading your posts.
I hope everyone is doing well and that nobody has to be out and working today.
No seed catalog has made their way to me and sometimes in january both our mailing addresses will be cancelled, so I do hope they will arrive before it happens.
Denise let us know about what you are doing for the wedding. Will you sew the bride's dress ?
If you ever feel like it, please post a picture of the dress you've made for your granddaughter.
Dawn, Annika, Teresa Sue, Karen, Ruth, Lora, Alee, Tina Michele, Rene, Lillian, Amy Grace, Marcy, how are you doing ?
By the way, our new Maven, Sue, let us know that she plans to be with us at the start of the new year, too busy at the moment.
so the family is growing and with the planting season ahead of us, we are going to use everybody energy and advice.
Happy sunday again to you.

Good afternoon Mavens,
Boy, Rene' I hope you are not out in this weather. Portland is a mess, I've heard reports that the entire city is shut down because of the snow.
My daughter, Autumn, and her family were supposed to fly into Spokane today, but they were coming through Portland and their flight was cancelled. I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say I don't think they will be able to come home for Christmas. It's a bummer, but I surely don't want her and Ruben to be stuck in an airport for Christmas with three children,5,4, & 1 yos. That would really make me sad. I will just have to be content that they can be comfortable in their own home.
Ruth, I'm sorry to hear about hubby's job. Just remember all things happen for a reason, even if they seem like bad things, good will come out of it. Hang in there sweetie.
Lora, I am glad you are safe. I agree you have a stressful job. But I will confess I had to chuckle when I had the picture of you telling that woman to get back in her vehicle, hehehe. You need to carry some little " incase" in your pocket or something for when you can't eat. When my blood sugar drops I'm a bear.
Corinne will you be spending Christmas day with friends or will it just be you and hubby?
I am not usually on here on Sunday, but my ambition has flown the coop, especially with the knowledge my daughter and family probably won't be here. I have regressed to my jammies and I will fritter the rest of the day away.
Talk to y'all tomarrow night.

Ruth, you and your family are in my prayers.
Lore, sure your job is stressful and I do hope things will improve soon. Teresa Sue, this is a very good suggestion, we should all have a couple of energy bars in our cars, just in case.
Teresa Sue, if your daughter and her family cannot travel to be with you, at least they will be safe home. Being stranded in an airport is no fun at all especially with young ones.
We have invited all the lonesome people we know who are staying in Kuwait for this time of the year, a few couples without family and a single lady, so all together we will be 12. DH is working part of the day (we are in a muslin country so Christmas is not a sacred day) and I am still wondering if we are going to open our presents before 6.30 am when he goes to work or if he can comes home for luch. We will see.
I wish you all a good evening, it is 4.45 am and I put the lights up on the tree after feeding the cats.

Good Morning Corinne!!
Ruth - I am thinking of you and your family, that is a terrible thing, to send an e-mail like that right before Christmas.
Lora - Be careful out there!!
Dawn, I think the Baker Creek display is awesome too, fit right in.
Teresa Sue - I'm sorry your daughter can't make it home, this weather is really putting a monkey wrench into everyone's plans. Most people are being okay about it but I have some grouchy customers because we are out of (fill in the blank) due to the roads and weather.
It has put a dent in my Christmas prep as my new car is not 4WD, so my husband and I are carpooling into Spokane, 35 miles, we work nowhere near each other, ah well....
And Annika, yes I could use about another 8 full hours per day, hope you are digging out okay:)
Night mavens.

Helllloooooo ladies!

Seems like its just gettin busier and busier! Me? I'm DONE! I'm so gifted out, sewed out, cooked out. Yesterday I did nothing. I sat in a chair and read old issues of MJ's mag that I bought myself for Christmas. I was realllly bored. I hate days like that. But I knew I needed it.
Lora: I know your job is stressful. But its also very interesting. I hope that the next couple of days bring you a littel R&R.

To all my west coast sisters: Be careful out there. Been watching the weather on our TV and thinking of you all. I know you must be better prepared for it than, lets say, me! Yesterday was so cold here in Ohio that when I went to the chicken coop, the wind felt like razor blades across my face. Our pipes froze, and the wood burner is barely keeping up. I cannot remember Ohio being this cold since the late 70's. Its been awful cold. And northern Ohio's been hit with mega snow....weird weather all around.
Ruth: How I hope that you and your family might move to Indiana. Lora is amazing, she'd be the best neighbor! And Marcy too! Then you'd only be about 5 hours away from me! YAY!

Oh, who and what am I forgetting?
TS: Did that one thing that was discussed via email get taken care of? Or was I supposed to do it! HA! sorry..........

Well, countdown is on.... little ones will be nothing but buggy this week. I wish I had little ones to share the holiday with. I love kids, but only one was in the cards for me. I'm the Super Auntie to my nieces! We def have fun!

I'm glad that everyone like their gifties. Its not much, but I really wanted ya'll to have them. The cards are my first attempt at artwork..... dont laugh!

I too, love all my cards. I am going to keep them in a special box I recovered and reserved strictly for Maven Mail. You all have touched my life so deeply. We truly have an extraordinary chapter, and a bond that grows deep like....weeds!

Talk with you tonight??? We are still on right? Please check emails today if you have a chance!

Hey TS...
I ended up not going, as we knew that one of the parents would need to be home. Tom ( my hubby) has been stranded in Stevenson since last nights as all roads into and out of Vancouver and Portland are now closed. My son is in Portland and we were able to get a friend to gather him up at the airport. I talked to Tom this Am and the roads are still closed. Oddly enough they can go back to bengin and cross overinto Hood river go up to Mt Hood and down into Sandy and into Portland.. which he may get creative and try... as the HWYS are just closed west of the Dalles and Stevenson...Thanks for thinking of us. I am eager to get my son home.. but safe rather than sooner.

We were suppose to head up to the cabin, but I think the snow will keep us closer to home. We have a HUGE hill just across the road from us and the whole community is out there this Am sledding, it is fun to watch, I hope to get some great photos... I have the fireplace crackling and hot coffee on.... Christmas tree lit.... So all I need now is for the guys to get home...............Thanks TS.. you know you got sisters when they have your back worrying about your guys... it means a lot!

Hey, are your kids in Portland? do they need a ride if Tom get's through????

I hope that everyone is ok in the various storms and weather and sorry that some folk are not making it in for Christmas to their families. My prayers are for all my sisters and much love too.
If I don't make it for chat ,know that I'm just busy here and that I think the world of all of my Maven Sisters

We've been drifted in for a couple of days now and Sooooo I guess some of you girls are getting new years cards. I'm really sorry. We never made it out shopping or to the post office due to having our car drifted in to the drive. We are at the bottom of a good sized hill and all of the snow just comes down and fills in our road and drive. We have been waiting for someone to dig us out of these 4 and 5 foot drifts and all the people with the really big snow rigs are busy . Hopefully today we'll get the car out ...
We tried to dig out by hand yesterday and only got about 20 feet into the drifts thanks to the winds filling in the snow behind us about as fast as we dug...oh well. Mama nature just has her ways. We still have power so far...just no way out of our drive and road in to it. We have been hard pressed to get to the barn twice a day to see to the animals and are grateful that the worst of the blowing snow is slowing up.
