Lillian, sorry to hear about the SSE catalog missing from your mailbox. Maybe it's taking a different route to avoid the hazardous weather conditions showing up across this thread. I'm glad you mentioned the BG newsletter. Mine showed up too but I'd already forgotten about it. I'll be glad when things settle down again after the holidays.

Amy Grace, keep an eye on that knitting. Now that your cheese-cutting arm is so powerful you might end up with a lop-sided afghan!

Lora, you can make the most frustrating things funny. I had to laugh about the freakin' fountain. Now I'm picturing the skating pond waiting for you tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting to know your mom. What a wonderful thing to do for her. Just following the DOE should keep her plenty busy. Having your mom ask for the password in her dreams sounds logical to me. A lot of subconscious things come to the front when we dream. Maybe you'll dream about your AVM book tonight!!!

God bless -

Just a quick drop in Mavens cause I miss you so much, lol.
Like Amy Grace and Lillian mentioned, we have some awful weather going on. We didn't go get the gbees because we didn't want them out on these bad roads. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just snow, but here in the pacific NW we have our wonderful freezing rain, then snow on top of it, terriable to drive on. Please drive safe Amy Grace. Boy I remember those days of getting up at 3 in the winter so I could get to Cheney to open the deli/bakery, it sometimes would take me 2 hours to get there with the bad roads. I'll keep you in my thoughts sweetie.

We did get our Christmas tree. Haven't decorated it yet because we have to wait for the ice to melt off of it, lol. DH helped me today, we moved furniture, sweep, mopped, and cleaned. We'll rest tomarrow, Mon get the rest of the house cleaned and then I can be like Dawn and bake, bake, bake. I am looking forward to it.

welcome Christine. Are you visiting or are you going to move into this henhouse? LOL

Hi Marcy jo, boy hang in there, I'm sorry the surgery wasn't for you. Just get informed on what you need and take care of yourself.

Hey Lora, the mermaid of Indiana, doncha know it's too cold to go swimming, lol. Hope you get that fixed okay. Glad to see you have a sense of humor.

Hi Corinne, miss talking to you. Karen, Tina, et all, a big howdy to you.

Oh, I didn't get my SSE catalog either Lillian, but I did finally get my MJ magazine. I haven't even opened it, I'm saving it for tomarrow, it's so HARD to do to!!!!

Today is my oldest daughter, Autumn's, birthday, I just find it hard to believe she is 35 years old. I'm not sure I like that, lol.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...........

Okay Mavens, I'm percolating some new ideas, this is just to warn you, LOL! You have to wait till next month tho to hear them. I don't want them to get lost in the Christmas vacuum.

Can't wait Teresa Sue!!
You worked in Cheney while you lived in Tekoa??
Holy cow!!!!! That is a drive, and those roads can get really scary. I was finishing school at EWU when we first moved to Rosalia and the Cheney/Spangle road is something. How long did you do that for? I don't blame you for not wanting to get the grands - the drifting was something fierce today.
Glad your DH is helping you clean!!

Very cool Tina Michelle - I like the name.
Karen - I'm thinking with my enormous right arm I should have an arm-wrestling booth at the BBB:D Just kidding, it's actually not any bigger than the other, just in way better shape. With not having a garden last year my arms were losing their muscle tone badly, you know the old warning from our moms about waving goodbye twice? I was on my way....
Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday and there aren't too many weather related disasters, sounds like the weather is hitting almost everyone. Hope Brenda is okay, Tina what is the weather like down your direction?

Talk to y'all soon

hey..the weather here has been nice today..but first part of the morning we had a heavy cloud cover..clouds floating in from the North..and this afternoon we had a nice sunny afternoon..about 67 or so..then this evening it has dropped off some. had the windows open most of the day today.earlier in the week we had a fair amount of rain.which was needed.
So far honestly it has been a mild winter here..we did have a few nights already where we have had freezing temperatures/frost..and as is typical here we'll see a little more of that..and then we usually see our last cold spell here right around Easter where we'll have a quick frost.

Good morning, mavens!!!

I just wanted to check in and say hello to everyone.

Lora~What a nice thing you are doing for your mom. I am sure she appreciates it so much. Your story about the fountain was too funny. You have a good sense of humor.

I have an eye drs. this morning. We are working on school before we go. Victoria uses a cd for math instruction and this morning we found it cracked. I was so upset because it cost $50. It was fine on Friday and we put it away and today there was a crack. We got it to work after much prayer and I hope my husband can make a copy of it for us.

I hope everyone is feeling well and doing well. Thinking of all of the ladies who have threats of ice storms. Stay safe.

I finally picked up a copy of MaryJanes Farm yesterday at Barnes and Noble. I have subscribed but haven't gotten one yet and I couldn't wait any longer. It is so wonderful. I just kept looking through it over and over again yesterday and then read a little of it before bed. The pictures of the store are just awesome. I wish I could go.

Blessings,
Ruth

Good Morning Ruth and Mavens,
Boy is it cold here. We were suppose to get more snow before the cold, cold temps, but while we got some it wasnt as much as we hoped. Although we are suppose to get more snow this week as well.. Crazy!

I love the winter. I love the hunkering down and lighting the fire and making soups for dinner.. and not going out much. I think it suits me that I live in an area that has all 4 seasons as I love each of them. In the Spring I am ready to "break out" and be outside and in the summer you can't get me in the house, in the fall it is the combination of both and in the winter... I love cooking, and sewing and reading....and boy is there reading to do this winter.

How is everyone else doing?

Well Rene - I don't mind the hunkering down, in fact I just posted elsewhere that I always feel like Laura Ingalls, but this cold is a little much. The drafty old farmhouse is not quite so romantic today:D I am planning on working on christmas gifts today, maybe some baking but I don't know if the butter will soften.
Randy's school is running 2 hours late - weather related, hopefully there aren't any major disasters

BRRRRRRRRRRRRR! It is cold here! I know there are Mavens out there having much colder weather than us here in the Pacific NW and I feel for you. I am a weenie, I will admit that. I look outside and see the chicken wandering around and think they are crazy for leaving their heat lamp! Hoping to get my Christmas shopping done tomorrow before the next round of snow hits. I just ordered onion seeds so I can get them started next month, I am so excited.

Everyone stay safe and warm and I hope to be here tonight for Maven Chat Time.

Lillian - what is the temperature down your way? We are at about 5 degrees or so, and if you have snow on the forecast, I guess we do too. Bleahh!!

Amy- We are warmer than you at a balmy 22 degrees. I am in the same boat as you though This is an old farmhouse- very drafty. Our only heat source is the wood stoves, so it takes it a while in the morning to warm up. The weather people are calling for 3-6 inches on Wed and the snow again on Sun. We'll see.

Oh man!! Although the forecast here was for 8 - 10 inches on Saturday and we maybe got 3 or 4, so maybe we will get lucky again.
We have a woodstove in our bedroom (?) came with the house, so it doesn't really help the rest of the house, as our bedroom is in a later addition so the warm air doesn't circulate. When we replace the furnace and remodel we will have to add some sort of wood heat as backup if the electricity goes out.
I was feeling sort of disgruntled this morning - the hot water in the kitchen sink is frozen, but I did some cleaning. Amazing how much better my outlook is with a clean house!!
22 degrees sounds like a picnic today:D

Good morning, mavens! Sounds like everyone is dealing with the effects of this storm system. We're supposed to get more later in the week and over the weekend just like y'all.

Not only did the storm not take out our electricity, it wasn't as bad as predicted. Robbie didn't go in to work today though. All the schools are closed in our area too.

As far today's plans, mine are the same as yours - cleaning, Christmas and hunkering around the fire.

Have a great day, my hennie friends!

God bless -

All mailings went out today. Weather here the past 2 days has been 50 degrees and rainy. Today it is dropping steadily. Supposed to be in low 30's tomorrow. Sorry, not in a good mood today (grouchy-need hubby to go BACK to WORK!) and then I can back to work....

OMG I only wish it were 30 degrees here. This is going to be short and sweet cause my computer is in the office which we have to close off because of the cold. I can see my breath in here. Won't be here tonight, too cold. My husband made the comment, as he came out of our closet, that we should put an ad in the nickel nic newspaper that we have locker space for rent for a hanging beef in there, I said Don't you mean in the living room. Old drafty houses, I swear next winter is the last one here, even if I have to live in a sod house, it would have to be warmer thant this thing...brrr we heat with wood, poor dh has been staying up the last two nights trying to keep it warm in here.
Well I have complained enough, sorry Mavens. Bear with me, I'll make it up to you,lol
Glad you liked your giftie Dawn.

Teresa Sue - I think you and I have the same mood!!
I hate the cold - I can't put the pets outside, the cat keeps getting in the toilet, bathtub, sink, anywhere there is water, the dog smells to high heaven and it's too cold to bathe her, plus I vacuumed this AM and the rug is now completely re-covered with dog hair. My son's school was two hours late so he was home bouncing around getting in the way of my alone time - I don't think 6 hours a week is too much to ask....anyway he had all these reasons why he couldn't wear a sweatshirt to school, let alone a coat - it is zero degrees, I don't care that we only live across the street from the school. He finally put a sweatshirt on but not before any shred of serenity/sanity had left his mother's head.
Now I am just not feeling so christmasy - the kitchen sink is frozen, at least the hot water, still.
If my husband would deal with things it would help but his motto is "never do today what you can put off till it's an emergency" It is times like this that the difference in our upbringings really comes out. Now we're in full on emergency, the cold makes everything break - cars, plumbing, the furnace smells funny - could it be that he hasn't checked the filter in who knows how long?
Wow - listen to me kvetch!!!
Sorry ladies, you were probably looking for something better than this.
I promise I will get the Christmas spirit back - maybe I should take a timeout:D
Everyone try to stay warm!!
