Morning! We had a very quiet Thanksgiving this year, there was only three of us for dinner. Of corse I made the usual 18lb turkey, but this time there is a few meals of it to be put in the freezer-yeah! Is anyone out there going to brave the stores today? I tried it 1 year when my kids were little, and swore to never do it again! People are just too rude on Black Friday and there is nothing out there that I need bad enough to put up with that. I may wander into Silverton though, the yarn store is offering some specials and I want to check out their class schedule. I have taught myself to crochet but am having trouble picking up knitting and thought maybe a class would help me. My grandma tried to teach me when I was young. I just couldn't get it. We'll see, I am trying to save my egg money for a sattelite dish to have "real" internet. Guess those girls had better start laying more eggs!

I did check out the garden yesterday and started "plotting" next years garden. Oh I can't wait!!!

Hope everyone has a great day.

Lillian

Knock! Knock!

Guess who?

HI HEN FRENS!

Keep your fingers crossed that my stupid computer lasts until this post is done...... I know she's ready to die cuz it took her almost an hour to fire up and I have high speed!
I am so glad that everyone had a nice Turkey day. I like the proclamation and am hoping (hint hint) that someone will save it for me! I am afraid to save anything on this for fear I will lose it. My T-Day was good, but I honestly had a hard time eating the food after reading AVM. I am now done with the book and it has definitely struck a chord with me. I made cranberry sauce with the chillover powder and no one would eat it, but boy did they devour the "canned" junk. I will just freeze it and see if I cant make a "sorbet" out of it. It was nice and tart! I also made chillover jigglers and the kids liked them well enough.... haha little do they know......
Pies? We have the standard pumpkin pie, but I'd love an alternate! I get so bored with the same ol, same ol.....
My dad got a deer in WV this week so I am going to go to Columbus tomorrow and pick up my quarter. I will be processing this week no doubt.
I miss everyone terribly. It is a blanket of quietness without ya'll. However, TS and I spoke on the phone last week and as usual I talk with Karen at least once a week so that was good. I know not everyone is okay with sending out phone numbers but let me tell you.... nothing is better than a call from a sister! TS and I were gabbing like we've talked for years! Very cool indeed.
Corrine.... I so miss you and wish you the best. You have a lot of prayers coming your way....
Speaking of praying. Karen knows, but religion has never played an important role in my life....when Mom passed, I started praying.... to whom, I wasnt sure-until now....God needed my mom to make her whole again, and in order for her to become whole, a part of me was taken away.... I resented HIM for that until lately. I realize now that what He takes, He gives back in tenfold. How rich is my life at this moment where at any given time I can count on (without a doubt) a family of 15? You are my family in which I am whole again. That is what i am thankful for. That, and that my computer has not quit yet......!!!
We have a new Maven!! Gabe emailed me with a newbie! Her name is... Susan I believe, I hope I did not delete that information. Please lovingly emcompass her in our fold of mavenhood! Like anyone wouldnt...duh.

LOVE YOU!

Dawn-Great to hear from you!!! Glad your T-Day was good. I still have the proclamation on file and I will keep it for quite a while. When your computer gets better I can email it to you or if you prefer I can just print it off and drop it in the mail to you. In fact I will just do that today.

Susan- if you are out there WELCOME! Don't be shy we would love to get to know you!

Take Care-

Yay!! It's Dawn!
Lillian I had to do the same thing with learning to knit, take a class, but now I'm doing great.
Susan, Welcome!!
We are doing our usual tradition for the day after thanksgiving - there is a fancy-pants hotel in downtown Spokane that does something called Christmas Tree elegance, they have about 10 different trees that have all these donated gifts/packages etc that you buy raffle tickets for. You can win anything from art to theatre tickets to travel tickets - all donated, and the proceeds from the raffle tickets go to the Spokane symphony. Anyway, we have never won but it is fun to go to the fancy hotel and dream.... then we go out to a really nice dinner - our one per year. We also do a little Christmas shopping - most of mine is done but there is a fair trade festival this weekend so I like to check that out, just to support the people who do it.
Anybody else have post Thanksgiving traditions?
Thanksgiving was good, a lot of family together, but a little bittersweet as my grandma is definitely losing her memory. I know she was confused about who people were a lot, but she was sure happy to see everyone anyway.
Okay mavens, talk to y'all later

Hi Mavens, so glad to hear everyone had a great T day. Dawn, so glad to hear your voice again, I miss you, guess I'll have to give you another call.
Welcome Susan!!!! Can't wait to get to know you, we have a fabu group here, you just can't imagine.
Well, I'm not having my usual post Tday thing goinin on cause my two oldest gbees(grandbeasties)spent the night and they are staying again tonight. Hubby and grandson went off to the Idaho place to burn more slash to make way for the homestead, ya know, manly man things, hehehe. Granddaughter and I are going to start putting Christmas stuff out as soon as we finish with chores. Have a great day and enjoy those turkey sandwiches slathered with mayo, mmmmmmyum!

Good afternoon, mavens! So great to hear so many voices out here.

Susan, welcome to the mavens! You will love it here - it's like the farmgirl connection on steroids (natural, of course).

Dawnzo, my buddy! Sure didn't expect to get such a wonderful surprise today. It just hasn't been the same without you. Hope you're having a wonderful time with DD.

Amy Grace, that sounds like a wonderful after Thanksgiving tradition. Maybe this will be your lucky year. Be sure to post a picture of the tree if you win.

TS, sounds like you're having a wonderful, heart-warming post Tday thing this year. Enjoy those gbees (are these your daughters children, the ones that came in from ????).

This will probably be my last post today as we're gearing up now for the BIL visit. I'm having trouble getting oriented today since this is my traditional post Tday weekend either.

Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

God bless -

Thanksgiving in our home was awesome with friends and family and friends of the boys dropping in, it all helped me get through the fact that the two oldest werent able to be home. Yesterday and Today I am at Cowan's Winery for "thanksgiving in wine country" sharing the sisterhood info... and signing a few more up. We started a chapter in the Tri Cities, so I send some girls to that one... fun, fun!

Glad to hear that everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and that we are all so mindful of the many, many things we have to be greatful for.

So the last 5 years my husband and I have done the Christmas Tree Elegance deal I mentioned on the day after Thanksgiving. We got all dressed up yesterday, drove toward town, made a couple of stops, and while I was waiting for John to do some shopping at the fly shop I started reading the paper, turns out the event is next weekend so there we were, all dressed up and nowhere to go!! Oh well, we had a nice day, the last day off till next Sunday so it was nice to spend it together. It did make us laugh though
Now we have another date night!! Two in one week - first time for everything:D

Hi everyone,
It's late and I'm just checking in. We just got back from an afternoon of ice skating then eating out and hitting the bookstore. Heading to bed. Will talk to you all soon.

Good morning Mavens.
Whew! First round of the holiday season over and survived, ;^)
I am doing nothing but putzin abound today. Maybe read, at the most, nothing more strenuous than lifting a needle, if that! Have to recharge for the next round, hehehe
Dawn are you still computerless?
Has anyone heard anything from our newest Maven?
Well Maven dears, I'm about as sharp as dirt clod this morning so I'm going to spare you my chatter. I do have a question tho- do any of you know how to get wax out of a tablecloth? My damask tablecloth got splattered with wax and I'm sick about it. I don't want to send it to the dry cleaners, as I hate those chemicals.

Morning Mavens.
Teresa Sue, iron your tablecloth from the back in between 2 sheets of absorbing paper. Do it untill anything come up to the paper. Then soak the whole tablecloth in lukewarm water after rubbing with dry soap the area in question.
Hope that is clear enough.
Have a great time potting around and just enjoying.

Teresa Sue,
I have had success with the wax issue by put ice on it to get the most of it out first and then washing or soaking in oxyclean to get any color out that may have been in the candle wax. I also recommend ironing like Corinne said to get out the little stuff in the fibers after using the ice.

Thankyou so much Corinne and Denise. I hate to have the cloth ruined, it's a vintage damask with lily of the valley woven in and I would be so sad to have it ruined. I will try your suggestions.

Oh Karen I just remembered. you said you added chillover powder to your homemade cranberry sauce in an earlier post. I just wanted to tell you, you don't have to add anything to the cranberries to make them jell as they have their own natural pectin. While you're cooking them they might look thin, but as it cools it jells up. I have made my own sauce for years and I've tried different things for the liquid you add. Sometimes I use just plain old water, some years orange juice and cinnimon, some years I've used wine, this year I think I scored a homerun. I used frozen raspberries from my raspberry patch. It was yum. Tart and sweet, cranberry with an overlay of raspberry, mmmmm. Also if you have problems with those unbelievers, this is what I would do. Make your sauce, it doesn't matter if you make the whole cranberry sauce or puree it. When it's done pour it into a can you have saved from some other food and put it in the fridge and let it jell up. When it's time to serve it, use the can opener to cut the bottom of the can out and slide your cranberry sauce out on a plate. It will have the can ridges and everything. It's all about perception. Your choice to gloat when they say how good it is,lol!

Good morning, mavens! It's certainly been quiet in the nest lately. Must mean everyone had a busy weekend - hopefully a wonderful one shared with family and friends.

Amy Grace, how cool that you get two date nights! I'm glad your husband isn't an "I only dress up once a year and this is it" type.

Denise, your ice skating day sounds wonderful. Topped off with a visit to the bookstore - woo hoo! That's my kind of day!

TS, were you able to save your tablecloth?

I did not get to go to my aunt's 80th birthday party as I had a bad cold, kind of flu-like but no real fever. Usually I just use Thieves but it's good once in awhile to let a cold or flu take its course so that your body remembers how to fight it off. Since this one hit late and fast and I didn't want to share it with anyone, I decided to ride it out. It didn't hit as hard as I feared it might. I'm doing much better today.

I'll be spending this week working around the house and doing Christmassy things. As far as I know, Dawn's computer is still out of commission. If it was working or she had access to another one, she'd be here posting!

Corinne, enjoy the remaining time with your family. I'm glad you've had such a good visit. It will give you something good to think about as you deal with the move.

God bless -

Hi Mavens!!! I sure missed all of you over the weekend!!! I took my kids north to my gramas for T-day!! She sure was surprised when my oldest showed up!! I forgot to tell her but the surprise was worth it!! He's always busy now days being 17 and all... grama made me a cherry pie-just like she usually does- and we had pumpkin, mince meat (YUCK)apple, sweet tater and cheesecake!! We make grampas stuffing every year and I cant wait to make some for Christmas!!! Went shopping for some craft stuff on friday---what was I thinking!!! But I was in town and made it out alive!!! Had a couple extra days with my boys then drove through the snow storm yesterday up to Flint and Back!! A six hour trip turned into 9!!! Then the boys didnt have school today! Typical. Glad I made the run yesterday my dad called and said the county was just a mess!!!

I know this is a bit after the fact but, I am so thankful for each of you. You have become dear friends!!!

Off to the henhouse!!!

hey gals..have missed you all too. have been busy getting the latest issue of Small Town Living together..with Paul's help of course. There are some topics there that I think some of you will enjoy..gardening and such.:0)
I've been having some wisdom tooth pain...oi! ..if it's not one thing its another sometimes huh? and am scheduled to see the oral surgeon on Wed. ..leet's hope they can get me in pdq..(pretty darn quick) so that it does not get infected/absessed.
(please keep me in your thoughts about this, as they'll be taking out all of my wisdom teeth and I'm not too keen on being put under for the procedure/hopefully there is another option..but if not I'll be going night/night and drooling all over..ha)
Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving..we did..had my inlaws here for a couple of days..had a lovely time..too much food..but a grand time.
Hope you all have a lovely day today.
