Good morning Maaaaaavens!
How is everyone today? Ready for Thanksgiving?

Sooooo, what kind of dressing do you have with your Turkey, inquiring minds want to know?

As my family has southern roots on both sides, I grew up eating cornbread dressing. To me, it isn't officially the holidays until that big ole' crock bowl is full of cornbread, diced onions & celery, sage, & black pepper. Just stirring it and smelling it takes me back to my childhood, it was one of the few times my mom cooked.

I know Amy Grace, the last few days have been killers! lol Usually, I not so behind, but working two jobs this year has just been a hard row to hoe I'll tell you. Maybe because I'm not 18 anymore, ya think? lol It was just too much to do and I just got behind at the house. I'm hoping to be able to quit at the cafe the end of April, that will make my life easier. I figured working on our home in Idaho this summer along with the cemetery should be quite enough, thankyou.

I have a lot to be thankful for this year, so much to even mention here, but I do want all of you, Dawn, Karen, Annika, Ruth, Brenda, Denise, Alee, Rene', Marcy, Tina, Amy Grace, Lillian, Corinne, & Lora, dear, dear Mavens, to know how thankful I am to have you in my life at this time. Y'all have become part of something so very important, a life's work, to me. May you and yours be blessed. Happy Thanksgiving.

Awwwwwwwww, TS, I'm teary now. I know how you feel, though. I feel the same about each and every one of the mavens. So much to be thankful for this year.

No stuffing at our house. We've actually been invited to some dear friends of ours. So the turkey, potatoes, squash, and all that I was going to make will just have to wait for another day. It was going to be a very organic meal. Can't say it would be 100% but darn close!

TS again, congratulations on your decision to quit the cafe come April. I think you'll get at least as much of a workout getting the new homeplace ready, it will be less stressful and a lot more rewarding. I'm looking forward to hearing your stories as it takes shape. Oh wait, I'm staying with you for the BB&B. This isn't a secret plot to hold all of us captive and work at your place instead of taking us to the BB&B, is it?

Gotta get going around the house as I've already spent quite a bit of time this morning wandering around the connection. Have a wonderful day, mavens. Will check back later.

God bless -

Morning Mavens-Hope everyone is well and ready for the holidays, because ready or not here they come!!!

Denise thanks for the card. I have never received a Thanksgiving card before, it is special.

I must agree you Mavens have actually become a part of my life, not just some people I know from the internet. When I talk about you it usually starts out "my friend from......." Thank All of You for being here- You are the BEST!

Teresa, I got a loaf of overcooked bread (somebody forgot about it and left it in the oven for an hour) out of the freezer yesterday to cut up into stuffing. My stuffing will be pretty boring, but we like it.

Time to get to work.

Mavens- My DH sent this out to the members of his Lodge and me too. I thought is was wonderful and must be shared. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Here goes......

My family and I wish to extend to you and yours a Happy and blessed Thanksgiving. Below I thought appropriate to include the original Thanksgiving Proclamation for your light reading, very fitting words of wisdom then and applicable even today.

Thanksgiving Proclamation:

Thanksgiving, 1864, was proclaimed by President Abraham Lincoln in these words:
"It has pleased Almighty God to prolong our national life another year...to favor as well our citizens in their homes as our soldiers in their camps, and our sailors on the rivers and seas, with unusual health.
"He has largely augmented our free population by emancipation and by immigration, while He has opened to us new sources of wealth, and has crowned the labor of our working men in every department of industry with abundant rewards.
"Moreover, He has been pleased to animate and inspire our minds and hearts with fortitude, courage and resolution sufficient for the great trial ... into which we have been brought by cause of freedom and humanity ...
"Now, therefore, I .... do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may be then, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the universe.
"And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid, that on that occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust, and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the great Disposer of events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling-place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations."

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Lillian, that's wonderful! I had never read that before. I especially like: "And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid, that on that occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust, and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the great Disposer of events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling-place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations."

I'd like to post that on the doors of every store that plans to be open Thanksgiving Day. It just amazes me that on a day when we are to be thankful for everything we have, people think they need to go shopping and buy more stuff.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I'm going to print it out to read throughout the day.

God bless -

Happy Thanksgiving!
I have so much to be thankful for and the Mavens are certainly, "right up there". Thanks you all for the wonderful way you have engaged in the discussion and the vision of the Maven's. I have "met" some of the most incredible women, the lengths of the talent, and the heart and the willingness to serve one another is most days overwhelming.........May your day be everything you dream it of being!

Smiling. Thanks Karen, I've never had a lot of money to "do things up", so I use my imagination, which can get scary at times! LOL!

Lillian,
I am going to pass this on to my homeschool support groups, 4-H club and extended family.
TS,
I like your idea as well. I think I want to take it a step farther and in addition, I think I will roll it up as a scroll and tied with a ribbon to be placed on each plate. Then, the person who is designated to offer the blessing before the meal can stand up and read it out loud and then offer up a prayer of Thanksgiving after the reading. Thanks TS, your imagination is not scary at all! LOL!!!

I had to take my 2 kiddos to the dr. this morning. They both have upper respiratory infections. It's that time of the year.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my dear Maven friends. Love ya!

I hope Thanksgiving finds all of you happy, mostly healthy;) and surrounded by loved ones. I am thankful for the community that we have created here and the energy that each of you brings to this forum. It has been a joy to get to know all of you this fall and I look forward to hearing more from each of you. I love that everyone's individual voice blends so well to create something more.

Denise - thank you for the card - it was lovely!
Lillian - thank you for posting the Lincoln piece.
Teresa Sue - we have three kinds of stuffing usually, sausage, oyster, and something obscure that my uncle is trying for the first time, it usually has garlic which makes my grandpa complain.

What is everyone's pie tradition? I make sour cream raisin, which is a recipe from the pioneers of the Dakota's - at least that is where mine comes from. A very sturdy pie, suitable for packing in saddlebags and taking to box socials. My grandma made it every year until she began having small strokes and losing her memory about 5 years ago and then I took over.

Happy Thanksgiving all
Amy Grace

Amy Grace, you said it all.

Brenda, so sorry you all are still under the weather. It gives the gratitude muscle a good workout though, huh? Hoping you all have a fun-filled, thankful day enjoying each other's company.

Annika, as always, you phrase things so well: a warm and lovely holiday. That's such a pleasant vision.

You all know by now how much you mean to me, so guess what my first entry in my gratitude journal is going to be?

Love and best holiday wishes to all.

Happy Thanksgiving Mavens!!!
Amy Grace I laughed out loud when I read the part about the dressing/uncle/grandpa, I mean, what would a holiday meal be without our little family frictions, LOL1

I would SO LIKE the reciepe for that sour cream pie, Please, please?

Well, I always make pumpkin of course, and I made a sugar free apple and sugar free pumpkin for hubby as well, and my daughter Savanna, she isn't to have sugar. I made a pecan this year too. Hubby is up , gotta go, love ya all, have a great day!

Oops! I forgot to answer the pie question! My mom used to make pumpkin pie for everyone else and chocolate pie for me. She read the instructions wrong the first time she made it and mixed the topping in with the filling. It was the best chocolate pie I've ever had so the "revised" recipe stuck. The first year she was gone I tried to make it and it didn't firm up. It ran everywhere but still tasted great!

So I've given up making pies for Thanksgiving. Now it's tradition for me to make pumpkin bread - Thanksgiving and Christmas. I rearranged things in the kitchen this summer and apparently packed away the book that has the recipe in it. So I'm using another one that sounds very similar. If it turns out well, I'll post it in the henhouse. The original recipe makes a really moist bread because it uses oil instead of butter.

God bless -
Karen ~ Chickherder & Farmgirl Sister #311

P.S. I'd like the recipe for the sour cream pie too. Would you post it in the henhouse after the Thanksgiving holiday rush is over, please?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope everyone has/had a nice one. We went to my grandpa's in Wabash. We had smoked turkey, oven roasted turkey, scalloped corn, cheesy potatoes, rolls, persimmon butter, pumpkin pie and key lime pie.

I am almost done with the book AVM. It's such an eye opener. I also just read in a farm journal magazine that Monsanto is coming out with a 4-pod soybean. Obviously genetically modified. They own/farm over 1 million acres in the US alone. Can you even imagine? Scary.

Gobble Gobble.

Love ya'

Good post-Thanksgiving Day morning to everyone! I don't know about you all, but I stuffed myself yesterday. There was a SPREAD at our friends' and we thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the fellowship. There was much to be thankful for there.

Dawn is still computerless. Her daughter is spending Thanksgiving break with her though and she's very happy about that. Sends her love to all.

Today is usually my Christmas card-writing day and beginning of Christmas decorating-day. Not sure how much of either will get done as we got home late last night, slept in (late for us) today, need to bake again and then head to BIL's house to spend afternoon and evening there. Not the traditional day-after-Thanksgiving that I'm used to but that's okay. Family first! Tomorrow afternoon is my aunt's 80th birthday celebration so another busy day.

Have a wonderful day and if you're shopping today, more power to ya!

God bless -
