I wasn't born in a barn, but I was raised in one. - FarmGirl #162

How interesting, we all are such a diverse group of women.

Here goes my list, not nearly as interesting as some.

Most of my first years included hosiery work: clipper, folder, sewer, knitter, and boarder.

NAFA took care of that type of job, I went to: Cook then housekeeper in a rest home.

Then went to fulfill my passion for children in Girls Scouts and a Pre-School Teacher to Program Coordinator of a child care center.

Now I am working at my dream job: A librarian in my hometown.

One top of my jobs my unpaid jobs includes: woman, mom, grandma, wife, sister, aunt, van taxi driver, Sunday school teacher, circle leader, mentor, caregiver, and what ever came along in my life.

I've got to write all this down so I'll have it to see later.

Started babysitting at 13. My first "real" job was at a hospital in L.A. at 16 doing EKG's and lab work.

On to Ga. and I waitressed for several years. Worked at the Dairy Bar in Metter, Ga. Dairy Queen in Statesboro, GA. Several restaraunts there. I think I worked in every one there in that town at one time or another.

In Orlando, Fla. worked at a bar as a cocktail waitress. Almost forgot that one. That was a wild time there. Got tired of that and worked at another Pizza Hut. Back to Ga. again.

Got married. Worked at Pizza Inn awhile. Then off and on at Pizza Hut. Had kids. Mowed several yards when hubby was laid off. Went to landscaping school at Chatt. State 1 year. Did landscaping a few years. Got too hot.

Then worked at the Ace Hardware 5 years. Quit for about a year. Worked at Toys-R- Us til I couldn't take the noise any more. Then a little rest. as a prep cook. I forgot another one I prep cooked for way before that. And also at a church cooking on Wed.

And I also worked for a jewelry maker-repairer as a courier delivering and picking up jewelry. Oh, I also worked in a jewelry store, too. Oh and at the mall at a Christmas store.

Now I do market gardening for a farmer's market. Sell milk. And am a caretaker for my friends parents. And another lady, too.

Hmmmm, I think that may be all. That was tough thinking of all I've done. But Ihtink that's it for now.

Hmm, not sure how many I've had. Let's see... babysitter, student, office clerk at a used car lot, title clerk, office clerk for a country music singer, cashier, gift shop worker, restaurant hostess, sales clerk at a Christmas store in the mall, wedding and events singer, title clerk again, service and parts cashier, accounts payable and receivable clerk, babysitter again, assistant office manager, office manager, caregiver to my grandmother (Alzheimer's patient) for nearly 5 years, and now office manager for a steel fab shop and a real estate developer, and accounting clerk for a used car lot. Now some of these jobs were at the same businesses, just changes in positions and promotions.

What a fun topic. We all have probably done more than we think. Here is my list ... hope I remember everything. I started out babysitting, does student count? or daughter, sister, wife and mom? Then office clerk at a department store and cashier, Secretary to Credit Union President, loan officer, head cashier, babysitter in my home, telephone sales rep for plastics company, home school mom to 3, accounting person/secretary for garbage company, Amish furniture sales clerk, sales clerk at artistic store, American Greetings merchandiser, now I am a student again and work at a health food store. Plus household chores and chicken chores and garden / yard chores :) I think that is it!

I had my first son at 19, (my older son will be 21 this august!) then I went to college for nursing then dropped out. I took care of people for 10 years as an aide. I had my next son 6 years later. Then I worked in greenhouses. I then returned to college for horticulture. I then started a landscape business. I then hurt my back and neck(lifting something toooo heavy) & went back to being an aide. (still doing some landscaping on the side). I then started making lip balm in 2007, which snowballed into MANY other products, and I now have a product line that consists of too many items to mention. I currently work full time at Sea Tow International in NY. There are Sea Tow's all over the US, and internationally. Sea Tow is a boat towing company. I hope to leave there when my business picks up enough full time. I don't plan on working for anyone else after Sea Tow. I had neck surgery over a year ago and have a donor bone & plate in my neck, I still do landscaping for only 1 client, but my husband does the lifting. Other than that a Jane of all trades?, sure. Aren't we all?

I am always told I take on too much. I cant just sit around, even when I want to, I have to keep moving. and of course, I do all the gardening, starting plants from seed, and cuttings, for my home, and for others.

OH my. I'm glad I found this thread because sometimes I feel bummed out and question my direction in life because I didn't hop on some hard-and-fast career path. I'm always pulled by "doing what I like" vs. "doing what pays the bills"!!
I worked on a dairy farm (that's a whole lot of jobs right there), I've sold dog food and supplies (family business as a kid), babysat, bussed tables, fair concession stand frying sauerkraut balls, (this was all up until I got out of high school).
Then I was a college student, campground gatekeeper, worked catering and in a deli, classified ad sales for a newspaper, student again, newspaper reporter then editor, short stint feeding rodents & other weird animals and cleaning their cages for a pet store distributor, antique & junk dealer, assistant magazine editor, turkey farmer, newsletter editor for an association, mom, worked in a hatchery, school bus driver, mom again. Whew. And I'm only 37.

My very first job was as a tour guide at an historic mansion. I did that for seven summers. I've been a high school science teacher for 20 years, but always seem to find something "else" to do : camp counselor, river otter tracker, bear trapper, red deer park planner (in England), volunteer coordinator (at the Seattle Aquarium), art gallery salesperson, textbook editor, hunting check station manager, sold Avon, sold Tupperware, 4-H leader, "mini-farmer", and of course all the hats that go along with being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin.
