Oh, cool! I don't have one here, but if I can talk hubby into letting me make one you can bet I'll be whipping out the circular saw in a heartbeat!

That is going to be awesome KY Frannie. Can't wait to see pictures of your treehouse. You girls are going to have sooooo much fun.

What good timing to talk about tree houses cuz I was just looking at the one our kids made many year's ago in woods.

I don't have any pic's but I have plans on redoing our kids treehouse for the grandkids and for me too : ). We have this huge old hedge tree with branches that spread out, good for the flooring. Slap on some railing. Put a table , chairs for tea parties and reading, heck even a bed ,thats for me to take a nap on : ). It has a lot of work to do on it b/c of all the brush and kids even made boobie traps when it was their fort many years ago. I was waiting for cooler weather to tackle this project. If you don't hear form me for awhile I have gotten caught in one of those traps : (. I'll have my tools close by to break free just incase unless I'm hangin by my feet, then I'll be scream'in tell the cows come home.

What fun this will be sharin about our tree houses.

Have a good one

linda ... what i call our 'treehouse' .. is actually going to be UNDER the trees .. not IN it .. but oh i'd sure like to have one of those too. there are remnants of one in our woods and i'm often tempted to have it 'shored up'. we didn't have one as children . but our daughter's did. it was already there when we bought our home in denver .. it was soooo dang cute! had a swing under it .. the girls LOVED retreating to it to have tea parties .. and .. my best memory of it was when they decided to do a 'girl's' M.A.S.H. party .. they all got uniforms .. hank 'drilled' them as they marched up and down the streets of denver ... they had QUITE a following of little boys who wanted to be part of the 'unit'. what fond memories!

ours will be more of the MaryJane Outpost kind .. we are making it large enough for fun 'campouts' for the gurlfrenz and when our grandes come visiting.

miz karin .. are you gonna' camp out on it with me .. or are you gonna' find a little spot 'inside' the cabins?

alee .. it's funny but just yesterday i ran to town and was talking with one of the Arts Council gurlfrenz and appologizing that i had been so 're-miss' in volunteering as much as i used to .. told her that since the newest grande had been born .. we found ourselves running back and forth on the roads to toledo a lot. (she is on my 'true friends' mailing list .. and i usually send them little notes of my 'roamings') ... she said she gets tired even thinking about all the things i do. ya' know gurlfren .. i do truly find wonderful 'down time' and take time to smell the flowers .. but i adore goin' and doin' too.

Farmgirls those under the tree treehouses sound great, gets some pictures going for us. I don't think theres any rules that a tree house needs to be in the tree, lol. We should never assume, : ).

LOL, KY Frannie, what great memories, I can see that M.A.S.H. party
marching down the street and the boys tagging along, what a sight it must have been.

Details girls deatails.
Do you put up lights? If you don't have a roof do you hang a chandelier from a limb? What types of sidings or is it left open. Do you decorate in a theme? How many can sit or fit in your treehouse? I recon you could extend with open tents the bigger the crowd, oh what fun : )

Appalachian Girl / Jem , thanks for visiting my blog and staying for a long time , lol. come visit again

Have a great weekend and fun in those treehouses

oh frannie, i am taking a break from myself and my woes to fantasize about your treehouse.
country my dh is building one here for our grandson, deven and it is turning into a dr. zeuss extravaganza.
my sister and i had one as children in the farthest tree from the house, but hurricaine calra had its way with it, (and most of the backyard!) and it never got rebuilt, well actually the tree didnt survive the hurricaine either.
please keep posting about the progress on the treehouse, i am living vicariously through the post these days, and it is a great escape for me.
love and hugs and best of luck on your gatherin there, i will be there in spirit.

Yea! I got the roof on the "tree" house! My girls are very excited. The oldest said that its a good bonding family moment. She's 12 going on knowing everything in the whole world. Now I have two more walls to finish.

well gurlfren ... we will use CANDLE LIGHT .. too far from the house to run electric down there .. and i want to keep it 'ROMANTIC'!

gonna' leave ours OPEN .. but get some wonderful thick canvas .. and run a wire (or something FIRMER) around all the sides .. so we CAN close it in if we want to.

THEME: oh lordy yes!!! i am having fun planning that .. PRIMITIVE .. EARTHY .. NATURAL of course. will probably put two chairs (and a small table for iced tea and a book) between them.

Plan on having a somewhat large 'farm table' in there with six to eeight chairs around it .. a wonderful cupboard/pie safe/hoosier/ or something wonderful to keep 'necessaries' in .. things that we will use in our 'firepit' to cook with.

We are thinking of putting two HAMMOCKS down there for honey hunk and me. We can just put up COTS when lotsa' guests come to stay with us down there!

Kathy and Eddie are coming tomorrow to 'measure' and work out the size logistics .. i want something like a 16 by 20 .. if it will fit in the space and still give 'walk-around' space without falling off a cliff!! if we have to go a little smaller .. we can.

i especially want it big enough for honey-hunk, me, daughter and son-in-love and the three precious grandes!

if we have a buncha' friends come for the night .. we can take the table and chairs off .. and line up COTS!

I think between this wonderful 'tree house' .. our HUGE back porch (that IS filled with wonderful furniture right now though! ... and middlin' size screened in porch .. we will have plenty of room for a big crowd! We have a wonderful hammock in the yard .. and yep .. tents can be pitched all over the place if needed.

OH WHAT FUN! life is so incredibly grande! xo

Frannie I can't hardly wait to see the pictures! My daughter and I are wanting to build our outpost under the back tree of our house as well. I am curious how far away will your fire pit be away from your tree-house? We want one near ours but are not sure how far up the tree branches really need to be to still be safe. Really it is my honey that is worried about that part. It is not like we will be building a huge bonfire in the middle of our city lot. Just a large enough fire to cook over occasionally and to sit and hang out around!

Hugs~

Frannie, I just love your nicknames for your hubby and son-in-law. I think that's so sweet.

Your outpost sounds fabulous, by the way, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see more photos!

christina .. i worried about that too cuz' ours will be built so that where i want the 'firepit' is indeed under large trees. we already have two firepits nearby in a better clearing (yet .. the trees are indeed behind it). we've had some pretty big fires in there (NEVER the huge "to the sky" ones though .. that would make me wary with the thousand acres of woods that surrounds our farm! i think we will use those to cook 'meals' .. and just build a smaller one for 's'mores' and such beside the tree house.
t'is truly better to be 'safe' than sorry ... AND .. we WILL keep a fire extinguisher hidden safely in that cupboard on the treehouse deck.

ginny .. don't know where my HANDSOME HONEY HUNK HUSBAND HANK (often shortened to 'honey-hunk') came from .. i think it jus' rolled offa' my tongue one day .. and i just thought it so wonderfully appropriate. he is my sun and moon .. our children, grandchildren .. and yes!!! GREAT grandchild ... are my STARS!

i'm not sure i coined "son-in-love" .. but i don't ever remember hearing it any where either. it just sounds sooooooo incredibly much more sweet than IN-LAWS .. i NEVER use that term with any of the family members.. it sounds so 'legalese' and 'outside' of the family to me.

I did catch myself introducing them as our 'daughter and son' .. and THAT reeeeeeeely confused people when they realized they had children together (hmmmmmm .. i think i hear the strum of DELIVERANCE being played!) sooo i think that is when son-in-love was born. we do call him 'son' when speaking to him.

i also do NOT like the terms 'step' .. (as in step-son .. step-daughter) .. when we marry ... and our love has a child from another .. that STEP term sounds so 'exclusive' to me too!! They truly become OUR children i do believe.

and i am somewhat wary of using the term 'adopted' .. except in telling a story to explain that a child was not born UNDER our heart .. but IN it. i know that children will learn they were 'adopted' ... so i wanted this term to become a LOVING one for our little daughter that we 'adopted' when she was two years olde. Whenever i was telling her 'story' to friends and she was present .. i always used the term: Darling 'Dopted Daughter ... she came to know that 'DOPTED was a very special and deeply loved term. Once i knew she understood that when hearing me tell stories to those who KNEW i surely never was pregnant with her ... i dropped it .. she has always been my Heart-Child.

It makes me just glow with warmth when, as an adult, i hear her tell 'her story'.
