How is Caron? I hope we hear from her soon. Orange was pretty devastated from what I hear? I am on the verge of tears any moment now.
Our place and family was okay. So many were not. I am heart-broken over Galveston and the communities down further. I was close to Downtown Houston. We were hit pretty hard.....very very hard. It was extremely surreal. It is okay for me. I am actually one of the 'lucky' ones. I am concerned for the rest and the other farmgirls. I should have net access and am at home and all is fine (except for out there!!) now. I'm exhausted.

Brooke- I am so happy to hear from you! I know in the city it is very different when there is a catastrophic event like this. I am in the country and after hurricane Rita it was very difficult. We had no power for 3 1/2 weeks. It was hard but we were ok- but when I went into town-our SMALL town it was different. Very surreal- it smelled awful because of all the rotting food in refrigerators etc- and it was eerily vacant. No lights sounds, things you don't normally notice. I was very glad to go back home- and wait out the rest of the events in my country home. There was no fresh food for quite some time-I craved a fresh orange or grapes- they were not to be found for weeks!!! Just keep writing about your experiences and it will help some. I had no idea how hard it all was for me until about a year after the storm when I started crying at the least little thing. I never cried during the aftermath of the storm-we were too busy making it. Wish I could give ya a big ole hug!!!! It will be ok- your city will get going again and everything will be fine- it just takes time. I'll pray for you! Now we need to hear from Marly & Caron. Any word?

Brooke, I'm so glad you're okay. Get some rest cuz after everything you've been through some sleep will help you be better able to deal with the destruction you see all around you. I stayed up watching the weather channel when Ike went though cuz I have family and internet friends in Texas and thankfully all of them are okay so far. Please let the sisters know if you or your family need anything. Maybe we should ask someone from Mary Jane's about starting a fund? Not sure they'd want to deal with managing contributions but it can't hurt to ask, can it? Since I'm still really new here who would be the best to inquire of for something like this?

Honestly, the worst of our losses was a great bulk of the contents of our freezer and refridgerator. Some things thankfully were able to be saved. Really, it probably did more psychological damage than anything for me. I think I will tense up every time there is a storm. Agghhh. But I will be alright. I'm really concerned for the others that went through. Is there any other way to try and get in contact with Caron too? She probably has no way for phones or anything at all though.
What I really wish? That I could've been more self-sufficient by the time this thing hit. However, my husband was able to take some candles and pull together a little thing to cook up the eggs and some chicken we had left.. and I cooked some beans on it ... you definitely go into a sort of survival mode...
Honestly, in some way, I was alright with it. You don't have technology in your face all the time. The neighbours come out and you socialize. That was the positives out of all this mess. People are nicer here... and so forth ...

Thanks Monica It just seems as sisters and women wanting to be involved in our communities that we could get a little something going that can build over time and be available to our sisters in times of crisis. Or even something we could all give an okay to use for sending aid from the sisterhood. Another way to show the world farmgirls care..smile. Huggzz to all

I heard from Marly this afternoon. IKE left them with quite a bit of damage, I'm not sure of the extent of it yet though. She and hubby are safe. One of the outside kitties suffered a cut of some sort. Inside kitties are at their camp staying safe. Luck dog is safe tagging along with them. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Maybe she will check in soon.
