I think that many of us have forgotten that we are supposed to vote for Miss Wilma.

During the primaries, there was a thread started about this, and I thoght we should bring it back, since there seem to be some heavy hearts here on the forum regarding politics.
Good question Libbie.
Miss Wilma should pick a VP. I would endorse Frannie.

oh gurlz .. i'm probably making this 'fun' thread way too serious .. but i believe so very stongly in this wonderful country of ours! i lived and worked in Washington, D.C. all my career. i was working for Bobby Kennedy when he was the Attorney General .. and i remember when martin luther king marched in the south for equal rights ... it was surely a "fight worth fighting" .. but he accomplished much peacefully ...

i remember watching as a 'human chain' of people linked arms and legs outside Attorney General Kennedy's office in protest .. and i remember how civilly the chain was broken .. no violence occurred.

i was privileged to work directly on the drafting of the Civil Rights Bill.

i remember when the vietnam veterans marched on washington to end the war .. i remember that the veterans were told they would NOT be given a permit to march .. a handfull of young attorneys from the Civil Division went to the Attorney General of the United States and responsibly convinced him to allow the march. thousands and thousands of people came and marched and protested (remember the film Forest Gump?) .. they were peaceful .. and much was accomplished.

i feel so blessed to have been a part of all this history being made. history is being made EVERY day in EVERY era .. i am thankful for honorable men and women who have been leaders of our country.

i remember the 'riots' in washington, d.c. NOTHING was accomplished .. much of d.c. was burnt to the ground. i remember the ku klux klan violently protesting in front of the Justice Deparment ... there was hate spewed and it ended in bloodshed.

i worked on Capitol Hill and i saw Congressmen and Senators from various states (who were sent to Washington by the people of their individual states) ... who were not very honorable .. and i also saw MANY who were .. who represented their consituents in fair and honest ways.

i have witnessed presidents with hard-working, intelligent staffs surrounding them .. and i saw much accomplished for our country .. i have also witnessed dishonest, self-serving staffs (i.e. Nixon's) bring a president down .. he, of course, was as guilty as they were and ultimately the responsible one. i do believe nixon was brilliant in foreign affairs (oh lordy! can i say that here on the forum? .. well that is MY belief anyhoo). an exciting memory i have was the day that John Dean walked into my boss's office surrounded by FBI agents and 'spilled his guts' about Nixon's involvement in the Watergate Affair!) I also remember my boss telling us that Nixon had just called him and told him he was NOT guilty! We investigated .. and found that NOT to be the truth ... and ... well .. the rest is history!

i have worked for a couple 'unscrupulous' ... power-hungry Preisdential appointees during my long career .. and in the END .. most were caught and punished. I have also seen injustices where wrongs were never righted. Having worked in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, i witnessed the process of Federal investigations while preserving fairly and legally the 'civil rights' of those being investigated. (we almost ALWAYS ended up winning those we prosecuted .. because of the thorough and legal investigations). i have heard 'the public' complain because the government wasn't doing it's job .. or not doing it FAST enough for them! .. the public simply was not privvy to confidential information in a case being investigated ... and surely did not know all the facts .. UNTIL .. we KNEW we had what we needed to win the case.

i have watched over and over and over again 'campaign promises' .. i have seen many of these promises broken and i have seen many of these promises fulfilled. it is never a simple thing leading a country as great and wonderful as ours. it is far more complex than we can ever imagine. there is a finite amount of money .. and there are an infinite amount of programs in need. we may not always agree with the choices of those in power at any given time .. but looking back over the history of the United States .. i am VERY VERY proud to live in a democracy and to call myself an AMERICAN.

now gurlfrenz ...... do not read any 'political rhetoric' into my posting .. i am simply sharing with you .. snippets of MY observations .. of MY life in Washington, D.C.

whew! offa' my soap box. God Bless America and God give wisdom to all those whom we vote into power.

Girls as I have stated as before, RULES are rules and they are for all of us, it seems that something that was started as a silly little thing has turned Political, In total respect for our Mentor Mary Jane, I think our fun little thing should end, In doing so I do want you to know I am an American and very knowledgeable in politics but this is not the place for it

oh my goodness wilma .. i am so very sorry that you feel my posting is anything other than sharing my heart and my love for our country. i did not think that speaking seriously from time to time on maryjane's forum .. was against any rules .. or that telling the stories of our lives .. was non-acceptable conversation. i have shared some of these stories in the past on here and i don't think they were ever interpreted as 'political' views. i went back to re-read my posting to make sure that i did not say anything insensitive, inflammatory or hurtful. i don't believe i did.

i surely did not read into your 'platform' as you stated it above .. as 'breaking any rules'. it is my understanding in the 'rules' that we are simply to be 'cautious' .. of how we handle 'hot' topics ... surely not that we cannot speak of them as they are a daily part of our lives.

i did not think me telling some of my experiences in my career would be considered a 'hot' topic. i have given NO political views .. i did not denigrate any political party or candidates. i have the utmost respect for politicians ... and had i been in any other career field .. i would probably talk as enthusiastically about it. i am truly confused as to why you thought i broke the 'rules' ... and if i am not allowed to kindly and enthusiastically speak my heart .. that is sad.

and again .. i say .. i am very sorry if i hurt your feelings in any way at all. I certainly understand you are an American and i am sure that you love your country. I apologize again if you got that impression from anything i stated about 'my' life. Often when good friends are speaking .. sometimes a light hearted covnersation will remind someone of deep feelings they have and they share it ... and sometimes a more serious conversation will take a turn towards the lighthearted and they will laugh over it.

i have made many, many posts here .. most are light hearted .. but i also enjoy talking of deeper feelings with my gurlfrenz from time to time .. and that is ALL i was doing (as i stated in the next to the last paragraph above).

again, i am very sorry if you feel it was anything else than that. xo, frannie

Your apology is excepted, now I love to talk politics but as I said, this is no place for it, as for the past its in the past let it lie there, as my granddaughter says Nana we are living in the future

wilma .. i am sorry if you 'mis-interpreted' anything i said. that was my apology. i do not believe that i said anything hurtful or wrong or unacceptable on maryjane's forum.

and i was not talking 'politics' . .i was speaking of my career .. which happens to have been working for politicians.

i believe it is fine to talk of the past, present and future .. not to always live in it .. even though we often try to emulate and bring 'olde fashioned' (past) lifestyles into our current lives.

i have not read any rules that 'this is not the place to talk politics' .. simply to be respectful and cautious of our words when we do (as we should with ALL subjects). i understand that not everyone wants to talk or read of politics .. but some do!!!

not everything here is of 'universal' interest to all of us .. i have learned to just 'click away' .. if i find that to be the case. if everyone would do that .. it would allow all of us to have our respectful conversations on any subject.

Perhaps it would be better if you just discussed the subject with Carol, Maybe we could all use some inlightment on the subject, shucks if there are no rules against it I sure am game, but until I know better, I will stay away from Real politics

I didn't read anything political in this???? Goodness gracious, I immensely enjoyed reading her time doing her JOB, I viewed it as historical and really interesting to read! Blinks.

Blinks. Blinks.

I think this is getting a little too far now!

gurlfrenz .. this is not something where 'sides' should be taken .. (but i do thank friends like brooke who really saw what i wrote). lordy! this shouldn't even be aired publically .. but i do feel that i was accused of doing something against the rules .. (as have several other farmgirls lately) and i just wanted to publicly state that this was not my intention .. anyone truly reading my postings will see that.

i NEVER said what i would do .. if i were President or Vice President (JOKINGLY OR FOR REAL ..in this thread or any that came before) ... nor did i ever say anything negative or "un-cautious" about the subject of politics .. hmmmmmmm .. i think i jus' made that word up!

And .. it is my belief that it is not the intelligent discussion of politics that is inflaming! It is the reaction of a few to previously heart-felt attempts to discuss a subject that will affect Farmgirls PROFOUNDLY!!!!! .. and every other citizen of the United States. I have always believed that this was a place of safety ..where we could tell our stories .. and respectfully talk about our beliefs .. without being judged and told we are 'breaking rules' .. by a few.

Life .. and interaction with each other does not have to be only about light-hearted subjects. NOR has it been on Maryjane's forum as long as i have been on it. This has been a place for friends to share and uplift each other.

My interpretation in Carol's 'rules' is that we should always have a caring farmgirl spirit .. that embodies respect for each other and each other's opinions and beliefs. With all my heart, i believe i have done that!

I do believe that in feeling the need to 'defend' myself .. i have perhaps compromised this spirit .. and i do sincerely apologize for that.

I will NOT defend myself or post in this thread again. I respectfully ask that if you read my postings .. you really hear what i said. Thanks my dear gurlfrenz! xo, frannie
