We have 8 plymouth rocks. One broody hen who is a huge white fluff with feathers on her legs. She's been broody all summer.I finally found a rooster for her(part Araucana). She is now setting on 12 large brown eggs.Unfortunately the neighbors dog got two roosters so we aren't "pure-bred" ply. rocks but that's the chicken yard story! Its been a rainy summer, hardly any sun.Do love the hens though.

Did you chat with the neighbors and maybe ask them to watch their dog. That is too sad. What is a broody hen? Do you mean she is mad all the time? I don't know much about chickens and hen. I don't even know the difference between a hen or a chicken, I would guess a hen is older. LOL I'm really a want to be real farmgirl. I do live in the country on only two acres. LOL

dorothy i hope that hen hatches them all out! at least with a hen hatching the chicks you dont have to worry about keeping them warm! you arent the only ones to have rain and cold all summer. here in the interior, north of fairbanks, its been so cold that the garden didnt grow! even the potatoes struggled to mke tiny little things that will have to pass for potatoes this winter. we will end up buying some before next falls harvest. peace connie in alaska

Marley- A broody hen is one that has decided to sit on her nest until the eggs hatch. Sometimes they will get a little stubborn though and will sit on an empty nest. We had one this summer and decided to put eggs under her, now we have 7 little fuzzballs running around.
