I have heard soaking your turkey in a saltwater bath the day before roasting gives it great flavor and a super moist bird. Has anyone ever done this?

If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come.

I have not tried it but got a recipe this morning from the Williams and sonoma webb site that I think I will try. Here is the webb address. If it does not work just go to Williams-sonoma.com and do a recipe search for Brined Turkey with Fall Vegetables. It sounds wonderful but I think I will make up my own brine ingredients after reading the list of ingredients in theirs so I can leave out a couple things my family will not eat.

I have done it (more than once) and it is really, really good. My husband and I used Emeril's recipe that was on the foodnetwork.com website.

Jenny - thanks for reminding me about this technique. I've heard that it makes for the best turkey. I've always wanted to do it but forget about until I've already got the turkey in the oven.

Writing myself a big note to brine the turkey!

The only time that housework comes before sewing is in the dictionary!

Christopher Kimball recommends doing that in the book The Best Recipe. I buy kosher turkey, which is basically already brined.

Oh a brined turkey is AWESOME. Someone I know brines it in cider or some cheap wine for 24 hours, then smokes it. OMG talk about a delight in every bite! And moist!
