HOMEMADE FLOUR TORTILLAS
3 tbsp. shortening 1 tsp. salt 2 c. flour 3/4 c. water
Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl. Cut in shortening. Add water to make dough. Take handful of dough and roll out on a lightly floured board, as thin as you can. Bake on a lightly greased griddle. Turn to brown.

Yum!! I love homemade tortillas and I am due to make some..your recipe is the same as mine!! I love them just fresh and plain..the kids like butter on them, or cheese.

Bridge -- thanks so much for posting the recipe. My daughter loves them with cheese sandwiched in between two. I'm going to try to make my own.

Uh, I don't have a griddle... Can I use a frying pan?

I decided to fall off the face of the world for a while. The internet was sucking a lot of my time, and I tried logging off for a while. That and stuff happened and this just wasn't on my list of things to do. And I felt like being alone so I isolated myself. But I'm back now. Although, I should be doing work... sigh.

I agree, there is nothing like homemade tortillas. I married into a Mexican family so my MIL is the one who taught me how to make them and boy are they good. She is an awesome cook too, so it's hard to not overeat when she cooks. DH and I spent all day Sunday making homemade tamales, oh yum. They were awesome!!! Homemade corn tortillas are delicious too. Once you start making those, you will never want the store bought ones again!!! |
