Hi Brooke: I'm already praying! I live in SW Louisiana, about 30 minutes from Lafayette. That is pretty close to Texas! I'm getting wired up already!!!!!!! I just answered a posting that Brenda in Louisiana "HomespunLivin" had written. I hate the thing to hit anybody, but I don't want to go through that again. Hurricane Rita hit us in 2005. We just finish rebuilding this house! My husband, just this afternoon said he cannot do this again. What are you planning Brooke? Take care, and keep in touch. I'm sure we will be posting madly about that darn Gustov!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a sister in Houston. Thanks for the post. I feel better now. Marly |

Brooke- I thought of you too and all those in LA and TX and I am praying as well. As much as we could use the rain here I do not want it to destroy the Tx coastline.

Believe me what we just went through with Fay has left parts of FL flooded that havn't seen high water in decades. One of my friends house flooded in 2004 and this time they lost it to Fay. So, a quick hurricane can be better than the ones that won't go away and rain and rain and rain. And I had a gut feeling this year to buy flood insurance and didn't do it. So, I'm prayin that we won't have anymore stahled storms over FL. We put a new roof on in 2004 after the four that came through. I've lived in FL all my life and seen my share of hurricanes, tornado and plain bad weather.
Try to stay calm so you can think clear and make good decisions if you need to evacuate. Do you have a generator, they are a must nowadays. Board up the windows etc...

Well, as of right now, we are out of the clear, but I am concerned about all you other girls.. it could come back our direction though. I hate these hurricanes! That's one of the bad things about being down here on the gulf. It's so stressful but I am being calm and not panicking. If it looks like it's coming here and will be too bad, We are heading to my mom's up north. We will probably be up there anyways. I'm saying prayers for us all. You know, you can plan and plan and plan but when it comes down to it, it's hard to know just the right thing to do, what to pack, IF to pack at ALL, and so forth. :- /

Marsha: I'll be praying for you, too. Hopefully this hurricane will just stop and fizzle out! Florida has surely had enough hits. Marly |

Hi Brenda, I am just down in Many. So we should be fine. My brother called from N.O. and he will be here tomorrow night. He decided not to wait this time. Besides I hear that it might be mandatory evacuation as early as Friday. I dont know where all the buses are going so we will stock up at the grocery tomorrow and hunker down. If it happens to get bad or come this way, I will head that way. My other brother lives in Bossier. We stayed with them during Rita for over a week as we were without electricity for about 8 days.
I am afraid the projected path looks pretty ominous for South Louisiana.

Good Morning Farmgirls! I suppose this all has us Gulf Coast gals, plotting and planning. I have been posting about this on my blog but just thought I would pop in here and wish you all the best. My brother called from N. O. last night and he will be up here tonight to stay until it has passed. He waited almost too late with Katrina and I am happy he decided to leave early this time. Just for your info, here is a map and we are the white dot in Western Louisiana.
Looks kinda scary but we will are making preparations.

thanks for this wonderful post. as a girl brought up on the gulf coast , galveston county, my heart always goes out to the folks that are living through hurricane season. i dont want this hurricane to hit anyone, but honestly i dont want anyone affected by katrina and rita to have to go through this again, i feel that the area is just beginning to recover from the last onslaught. everyone on the gulf coast will be in my thoughts and prayers. and thanks so much for the map, it is great, i am so glad susan that your brother has decided to come stay with you through this.

WEll, after 23 inches of rain in our gauge last week, broken sewer lines all over town, flooded subdivisions, and tress on houses, we are hoping that we have a little time to clean up before facing another one. So, let's keep praying!!! Now there is Hannah, too!

We are making our preparations now. By late Saturday, early Sunday, we will on the road. All we can do now is pray. The cat cages are out, important papers are packed, etc... The helicopters continue to fly over bringing people off of the oil rigs in the gulf. Keep praying. Marly |

It is unbelieveable that 3 years ago you farmgirls were holding my hand because I was ecacuated for a month from my home in Lake Charles, La for Rita. I know I can count on prayers from you....We already have our evacuation route planned and where we will stay---As someone posted, lets pray it will bread up in the gulf. I don't want it in SW La, again, but I honestly can't wish it anywhere else.
I will keep you all posted and again thanks for the prayers.
