Hi all,
I have been making Christmas presents this year and I was sitting here thinking that I won't have my grandchildren around this year to bake Christmas cookies like we did last year , because they moved to California, So, I thought I would swap recipes with all of you. here is my favorite Christmas cookie recipe and if you have one please put in on too. Maybe this has been done before but maybe not so hope you,will all join in.
Oatmeal drop cookies
2cups sifted flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 cup margarine or butter
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 and a 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup milk
1 cup each chocolate chips and peanut butter chips
1 and 1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 cups quick cooking oats
oven 375 degrees for 12 minutes
greased cookie sheet
sift together dry ingredients except oatmeal--after sifting then add oatmeal.
Combine margarine ,sugars, eggs and vanilla- cream this...
Add milk , the flour mixture gradually until well blended. Add chips.
Drop by teaspoonfuls and bake. For bigger cookies increase drop size and time baked until 15 minutes.
This recipe is best done just by stirring with big spoon. If you use a mixer it makes the oatmeal too fine. Real easy to do and the kids love to help mix it up cause you aren't using a mixer. Happy christmas cookie baking when the time comes. Beverley

I actually have 3 favs:
Mock Petit Fours
Assorted wafer cookies
Dipping chocolate
Various colors of icing
Cut wafers into squares. "Glue" 2 squares on top of each other with a dab of melted chocolate. Allow to set. Dip these newly made cubes into melted chocolate and place on wax paper. Allow chocolate to set before decorating with icing. If you have good icing tips, you can create pointsettias on top or holly leaves and berries or make them look like Christmas packages tied up with ribbon.
This recipe is for those who don't like overly sweet treats:
Flaky Cut-outs
4c flour
1 1/3 c. crisco
2tsp salt
1/2 c. water
Mix 1st 3 ingredients together until it resembles corn meal. Add water a tbsp at a time until dough is moist enough to handle. Divide dough into 3rds and roll out 1 at a time. Keep the others in a bowl covered with a damp paper towel. Cut out with cookie cutters and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Prick with a fork and bake at 400 for 7-8 minutes. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar or colored sugar before baking or drizzle with melted chocolate after. Repeat with remaining dough.
Then for the severe sweet tooth:
Chocolate Maple Walnut Bars
1c flour
2/3 c sugar
1/2 c cocoa
1 1/2 sticks butter
2 eggs
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 tsp maple flavoring
2c walnut pieces
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix 1st 4 ingredients in a large bowl, cut in butter til crumbly. Stir in one beaten egg. Press mixture evenly in bottom of ungreased 9X13 pan. Bake 25 minutes. In medium bowl, beat milk, egg and flavoring; stir in nuts. Pour over prepared crust. Bake another 25 minutes or longer til golden. Cool in pan. Cut into bars while still slightly warm.
WARNING!:these bars are addictive!

My grandchildren were here doing cookies last year with us too, they moved to Florida so I know what you mean. In fact I think that was my granddaughter's first time doing Christmas cookies. She is 2 and it was so much fun! I'm glad we took pictures of it all.

I have pics too. I am going to make a memory board and hang it here at the house someplace. it was so much fun. one was 3 and one was 4 and one was 8 .. they had flour on their faces and all over but we had a great time. Their dad got a new job out in california cause michigan just doesn't have anything here so they moved there. I need to work on that memory board. Beverley

My husband always requests sugar cookies with crushed candy canes mixed in the batter, and white iced. Just find your favorite sugar cookie recipe and a box of canes, and viola! They're always gone when I take them to work, and everyone loves the mix of flavors.

Wow that sounds good too and so easy. I might have to try that one or send it to my daughter so her and kids can make it. They just love to ice cookies and themsleves!!!! hehehehehe Beverley

They are SUPER easy, Beverly! And, I find that I really like them too...didn't think I would, but the candy canes melt into the cookies. Hardest part about it is crushing the canes, but I put them in a large, heavy freezer bag and go to town with a mallet. Takes a little Christmas "stress" out :)

Lisa, that might be just wonderful--I'm thinking semi-sweet to counteract the sweet of the cookie and candy cane. Ooooh..and how pretty they would look!!! Might just have to "expand" my recipe this year!!!
