ok, so today I was dropping off stuff at the Thrift Shop,,,and they handed me a 20% off coupon...so what was I suppose to do??? I did what any self righteous farm gal would do...shopped till I dropped & got 20% off ta boot!
Guess what I got, besides another apron & some vintage 60's fabric??? give up?, I got for the price of $9.99 less 20% a Singer 600 sewing machine....and it sews wonderfully! SCORE!!!!!
Hummm, I think my first project on it will be an apron! lol!
ok so that brings me up to 9 sewing machines

Grace, One can never have too many sewing machines!! I am up to 5 and a serger! I am hoping to someday find a White Rotary, mostly because I have a whole box of attachments that go to it! I am so happy for you!

Monica,
I am so fortunate to have my grandma's White rotary, cabinet and all. And the best part is it still sews wonderful, tho I must admit I don't use it. I sewed an outfit for my daughter on it years ago and all I can say is...Thank goodness electricity was invented! lol!

Great find Grace!! I keep hoping to walk in on a great treadle find at my thrift stores. I went to all of them yesterday, with my hubby's blessing...looking for cast iron pans. I found some beauties!! Got a Griswold #7 (Erie, PA) markings and it is perfect....for $5. (That is a steal!) Also a Griswold crispy cornstick pan, a flat single burner gridle and a #8 pan. All are in almost new condition...all Granny's era and all for less than $25. We desperately needed new "non-stick" pans, and my hubby finally agreed to try cast iron. (he does alot of cooking.)

And: HE loves them!!! Yeah.

Oh, my sewing machine count: 3 sergers, 2 embroidery, 1 electronic Kenmore (my work horse machine), 2 White Rotary (one is 1936 and in a cabinet and one table top 1977 model..my old workhorse now retired.) Also a Simplicity quilter that I gave to my daughter. That's about it. The two embroidery were given to me by my mother before she passed away. They are in my attic and I want to bring them down when the girls get back into school so that I can learn how to use them.

Well, off to do some back to school sewing for my youngest daughter today, then off to the county fair to see if our entries won anything! Later all..............

I only have 1 sewing machine
It is the one mom and I bought over 25 years ago, maybe 30 years? It still works, not good but oké. AM looking for a new one, maybe one with embroidery options. I am not sure, needs to be on the cheap side, LOL!

star the only time we are part of the united states is when it comes to laws and taxes! the rest of the time we are a foreing country! in fact the military gets overseas pay for alaska! even tho its no farthur to ship, say washington to alaska, than say washignton to florida we usually have to pay 4 or more times the postage when mailordering! why you ask? cuz they can!! we usually have things shipped to a friend who then ships to us and it costs alot less! one seed company i ordered from wanted $15 for shipping 6 packets of seed!! they shipped to her address for free and she shipped to me for under $2!! alaska has its good and bad, prices are often the bad lol. we are paying the highest fuel costs in the country. some of the villages paying over $10 per gallon for gas! here in fairbanks it was $4.35 the last time i was in town. peace connie

Wow! I always thought that gas was cheaper up there because of the pipeline. I knew that food items were tough on the pocketbook though.

most of the gas we get is from outside! we get very little from the pipeline becasue it is mroe profitable for the big oil companies to sell it to japan! we even ahve a refinery in north pole (just south of fairbanks) and they only make aviation fuel! why should theyy care that the cost of fuel is so high if they can make a profit! grrrrr makes me livid!
i dont think groceries have been that much higher except for fresh produce until the fuel prices jumped so high. now everythign is soooo high its a good thing we grow our own meat! sadly this summer has been so cold that gardens has done almost nothing and even wild berries have been pretty skimpy. peace connie in alaska

I don't have 100 sewing machines; at least not yet...... it's only around 60, mostly antique/vintage handcranks, a dozen or so treadles, and several electric. I love finding the old ones and getting them working again. All my sewing is done on treadle or handcrank (they're good for piecing quilts). I haven't used an electric machine in a couple of years as I find the people-powered ones much more relaxing to use. I have pictures of quite a few of them at http://community.webshots.com/user/stitchinwitch1

Hey Tammy, I posted a pic of my latest find on my blog....

While out at a local 2nd hand store I spotted a White rotarty maching in a cabinet, but not in to good of condition...the store wanted $79 for it....I almost bought it but decided to pass on it. I have my grammy jackon's turn of the century White treadle machine which I love dearly.

I picked up a computerized Viking for $250 at our thrift a few months ago and discovered when I got home that the reverse didn't work along with some of the fancy stitches. Took it to the Viking guy in town and he said that it needed $300 worth of work, or for $350 I could just get a newer/refurbished one! Of course our thrift store doesn't take returns either (ouch!). So now I'm back to my old Singer 2404 Merritt that I had purchased from the same store about a year earlier for $4.50 (it was half off!). That Singer has been the best investment I've ever made!!

Judith do you have any good places to get a part for an old singer feather weight crank machine my DH bought it for me and would love to use it but it is missing a piece on the bed of the machine. Any information would be great.

Whoa on the machines! I just bought a Singer 15-91 and it's going to be machine #3 (including my serger). I would still like a people powered machine but they are going for too much money around here so I keep looking.

Connie, the thrift stores here aren't very thrifty either! I drive 35 miles to Yakima and the same Goodwill store has everything for half of the price of the one here. I don't get it!

And Judith...I wish I had your knowledge regarding treadles...I get a bit intimidated looking them over as I don't know much about them to know if they are able to be rehabilitated or not! Bet you've got enough know-how to write a book!
