After school today the kids and I went over to the fair grounds to see what ribbons their entries (and mine) had on them. It is always fun..and since they entered more this year it was even more fun!!
Here is the report:
13 year old daughter got:
one sweepstakes, 1 blue and 3 red
12 year old son got:
3 blues
11 year old daughter got:
one sweepstakes, 4 blue and one red
11 year old son got:
one sweepstakes (on his brownies!!), 4 blue and one red
and I got a sweepstakes on my salsa, a blue on my embroidered tea towel and a blue on my anaheim peppers.
I listed what the kids entered on my blog if you want more details. They were more than thrilled. The three entries that the kids had that were sweepstakes (4H) will go on to the state fair. they will get a free ticket to get into that fair. I think we are going to try to go. Last year we just had youngest son's rock collection go on to state fair and didn't go..it will be fun to go this year if we can fit it in!
Tomorrow we will be delivering the kid's chicken entries to the small animal barn. They are each entering a hen and they will be judged tomorrow evening. A first for us.

What fun. Good for them and you. Try to go to State. When my kids were younger and made it to state it was such a thrill for them. MB

Good For You!!!!!!! I love to hear the kids are entering. Too bad more kids don't have the opportunity. Your kids will grow up to be better adults from the experience.

Now Jenny, about your salsa. My salsa just got a 3rd place white ribbon. I could use some tips from you.

Hey Belle...my best tip....add tomato paste! Really..it makes it nice and thick and makes a real difference. To each pot of salsa I add 4 of those small cans of tomato paste. It just really changes the consistancy. I don't add it when I make fresh salsa..but once it is cooked it needs the thickening. I bet your salsa is wonderful no matter what some judge says.

Thant's great Jenny. My DD did well at our fair too and now she qualifies to show at our 2009 state fair. I highly recommend going if it's possible. It's such a great thing to see exhibits from all over the state. Ours has a county building where each county in the state does a big display about what their county has to offer. Very cool.

Hope you are able to go. My DD loved it.

Hey Sharon..I didn't end up entering the socks. I wasn't happy with the heel on the second sock and ripped it back before the heel..didn't finish them in time to enter. They are so soft and nice though..I know you will like them. Just a little more to finish on them.

Thanks for the memories...4H and blue ribbons and the excitment...good job for all of you, what a great way to do things as a family...you will be glad you did in times to come, the kids will have all these memories to share and look back on and it doesn't get any better than that...Debbie

Congrats Jenny! Yea! I can't wait to hear how the chickens do!! We take pigs and goats every year to the fair and only this year are we taking only 1 goat. We cut back alot this year. DD's nanny had babies so she raised this goat herself! This year will give us more time to do the baking and sewing side of it!

Chicken update...Summer's hen got a best of Breed, Erin and Dalton's hens each got a blue and TRavis got a red. That red ribbon hen is the only one that laid an egg at the fairgrounds though..haha. They were thrilled
