Sound fun?

Ok, here's the specifics:

*Handmade - however that works for you, sewn, crocheted, knitted, felted, whatever your specialty, recycled or repurposed fabric is fine. Just make sure they are quite sturdy.

*Size - holds approximately the same amount as a standard plastic grocery bag.

*Quantity - for this first one, let's stick with one bag for one swap partner.

*Sign up - deadline is Aug. 22

*Delivery - deadline is Sept. 26 (please let your partner know when you've received your bag)

If I've missed some info, please let me know. I'll start a list right here as people express interest. You will send a bag to the person right above you on the list, the person below you will send you one. I will send a bag to the last person. Please contact your recipient for mailing address.

If you need any help finding a pattern just let me know!

Have fun!

*Once you receive your bag please let me know so that I can note it on the list. I will change the color of your name, since you are now "going green"!*

Me too, sounds like fun! Do we have to decorate the bags? I make them from plain linen or sometimes cotton and decorate them.
Would be fun to do that again, been a while since I one :)

Functional and pretty, that's how the bags should be, just like a Farmgirl. As long as there's nothing that's going to pop off, snag on something, or otherwise cause distress, I say decorate at will!

I would love to join in on this.
The bag I make would be simple, strong but decorated nice and farmgirl-ish. Should be easy to sew and even better to receive one handmade from a Farmgirl sis.
It would be much better than a grocery store plastic bag that I use for carrying my little boy's toys out to doctors, or/and my knitting in.
I'd be thrilled to stop using the weak plastic bags for "stuff".

I'm thinking about this one. Does anyone have a pattern, or do you just make them like a tote bag? I guess I can try to come up with something.

Wow! This is getting fun!

There are lots of variations of reuseable grocery bags out there. I purchased a pattern (more of a tutorial actually) from a very talented lady's etsy shop. It was $10 for the "paper" and the "plastic" version. If anyone is interested in taking a look at her site let me know and I will email it to you. I chose to make her "plastic" version, it's modeled directly after the plastic kind at the stores, but you get to make it with pretty fabric. I have used quilting cotton and even thrifted bedsheets! I just made 5 yesterday, will try to post some pics on my blog later today. I'm sure there are some free tutorials as well, so adding that to my list of things to look up and will post back when I find them.

Thanks, Ladies!

Looky!

The pattern I use is from the first link, but there are so many different ways to do one, the skies the limit.

I have made several of the bags from the craftster tutorial.... great fun!!! Good tutorial too... very easy. I love these bags. The way I see it you can never have enough of them. They are sooooo useful and much stronger than plastic. I also like the way you can fold them into a small package to carry in your car.

I got so excited about this yesterday that I found a pattern I like, printed it out, went home and made a bag!
I will probably make another one this weekend! got to fix my treadle machine soon, it's got a wobble that's making it difficult to sew.

Add me to the list. I have been wanting to sew some reusable grocery bags. And since the deadline is a month after I will be moved- I know I can swing it.
